“Why are you just coming back? Imagine my shock when I came back to an empty house after my shift,” Rose said as Harper entered the house. Rose had not gotten a message or call from Harper that she was going to stay out all night.
“Why is this a big deal? Can I not stay out all night?” Harper groaned as she sat in her bed. She was still hung over but had pretended like everything was fine just to have a heated conversation with Ophelia.
“Well, you are, but you are always in bed, so it was strange, and I was worried; I thought something wrong had happened.”
“No need to worry about me; I finally had alone time with the man I told you about.”
“You did?” Rose was intrigued and impressed. She had not been in support of Hsrper but what could she do about it? This girl had abandoned all she had and knew just to come out here to be with this man, and even though he was married, she still believed that he was going to come to her. “Now that you have spent the night there, you have to tell me what it is or I have to meet him,” Rose said, sitting on the bed with her legs underneath her.
“Whoa, slow down; it was just me making a drunken mess at his place, but it was still a step forward in my plans,” she said as she had somehow found an important cure.
“Okay, tell me everything.” Rose was tired from working at the hospital all night as a nurse but she was more intrigued by the tale that Harper was about to conjure.
“Okay so remember I told you that his wife has a friend who I also befriended?”
“Wait,” Rose stopped her before she could say anything more.
“What?”
“You have to use names, and by names, I mean real names,” Rose said, getting into a comfortable position. She had been itching to get into this for months now; she had been so bored that a little gossip would be just what she needed.
“Okay, but you can not tell anyone else and you have to promise not to get shocked by anything.”
“Of course,” Rose mimicked the expression of zipping her mouth shut and throwing the key in the corner. “I have no business in sharing this; I just need a bit of gossip in my life,” she added and Harper nodded.
“So my love is Cade.”
“CADE VALE?” Rose screamed, cutting through the air. “ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT YOU HAVE BEEN GOING AFTER CADE VALE? OPHELIA’S FROST HUSBADN?”
“Why are you screaming at me?” Harper asked with a sad expression on her face.
“I am sorry I did not mean to do that, it is just that I can not believe it; it is unbelievable,” Rose said, biting her lip. “How did you know him? Why do you know? How can this happen? Why are you trying to come between them? They are so in love that they have made everyone believe in love again. This just makes absolutely no sense. Am I supposed to support you?” the words flew out of Rose’s mouth so fast that Harper had to place her hand over it to muffle out some of the questions.
“I knew him first; we dated for a long time but he broke up with me and I know this marriage is a sham. They are just trying to make it seem like they get along; they are not in love.”
“Harper, have you ever seen any rich person trying to convince you about their love for each other? They just do not care; all they want to do is get married and live together,” Rose replied as she took off the hand on her mouth.
“Yes, that is true, but it seems like Ophelia is obsessed with her public image, and this is why they are doing this.”
“Okay, okay, I need to hear the entire story; start from the top.”
Rose and Harper spent the next few minutes talking about how Harper and Cade dated and then she left her entire life to come meet him here and how she was sure that she could get him once she proved that they were not together.
“See girl, I am unsure of your confidence to think of doing this; I cannot even send back the worn-out meal at the restaurant,” Rose and Harper shrugged. She loved the confidence boost that Rose was giving her.
“I have to do this; I deserve it,” Harper replied, and the phone began vibrating. She took it up and looked at the screen; it was Frances. Frances clearly needed her help or else they would have nerve reached out. She knew that Cael, his mom, and Frances were up to no good, but she did not mind. There was no way Cade was going to go completely broke, and it did not bother her if he was not the owner of the company; as long as they were together and he could afford an extravagant lifestyle, she was fine.
“Hello”
“Hello Harper, don’t be a stranger. I haven’t heard from you since after the party,” Frances said. Harper scrunched up her nose because she knew that if they did not see her as a tool to help them take Cade down, she would have no opportunity to ever talk to them. They were truly levels above her.
“I did not know I could call,” Harper murmured and Frances chuckled.
“What do you say we meet tonight? Cael has a proposal for you and I would love to have you as my friend.”
“Oh, you are inviting me for dinner?”
“Of course. i will send the address and a car to pick you up so what do you say?”
“Do you want to ask me to help you?” Harper asked outrightly, causing her to cough out.
“Why don’t you say this is a thank you for the last time? And an investment in both our futures?”
“I guess if you pit it that way.”
“See you by seven then?”
“See you by seven.”
