As soon as the words were spoken, footsteps echoed from outside the hospital room.
When the door opened, Ulric saw Sirena holding the hand of his mother, whose eyes were tightly shut, with tears streaming down her face.
Hearing the sound, Sirena looked up at him, her eyes red, “Ulric, the doctor said your mother’s condition is extremely critical! Don’t go to the company today. I thought if she wakes up, the first person she would want to see is you.”
Ulric stood at a distance from her, showing no intention of comforting her, only furrowing his thick brows.
“There’s nothing more for you to do here. You can leave.”
“… Alright then, if you need anything, just call me.”
The topic suddenly shifted to the phone, making Sirena’s heart skip a beat. Audrey, who was pretending to be unconscious, also secretly poked her palm.
“Have you seen my phone?”
Ulric looked down to search for his phone, causing the atmosphere in the room to drop to freezing point. Sirena and Audrey both froze, even holding their breath.
He must not find out about what happened with Rosalind at this moment!
Fortunately, Sirena acted quickly and discreetly slipped his phone into her bag.
“No, didn’t you leave it when you went to find the doctor?”
Ulric frowned, seemingly trying to recall.
Sirena quickly said, “Then I’ll be going now. Contact me if you need anything!”
With that, she grabbed her bag and immediately left the hospital without a moment’s delay. Once she was in her car, she took out Ulric’s phone to turn it off.
The screen lit up, displaying messages from Rosalind.
[Ulric, where are you?]
[Ulric, my mother passed away. Please answer my call…]
Seeing these messages, Sirena couldn’t help but smile with satisfaction and malice.
“Compete with me? Compete with my mother? The outcome will always be the same! Blame it on your bad luck.”
She sneered as she turned off the phone and removed the SIM card, tossing it out of the car window. When she passed by the riverbank, she stopped and threw Ulric’s phone into the water as well.
This way, even if Ulric wanted to get a new phone or SIM card, it would take at least a day!
A day was enough for Rosalind to lose hope in him.
Sirena didn’t know much else, but she knew Rosalind’s stubborn and resolute nature all too well! With such a serious incident happening and Ulric not being there for her in time, it would surely diminish Rosalind’s feelings for him significantly and help her see the truth clearly.
They were never meant to be in the same world.

By the time Rosalind made her twentieth call to Ulric, she was no longer met with a busy signal but with a message saying that the phone was turned off.
In the cold and sterile hospital corridor filled with the scent of disinfectant, she felt like a walking corpse, mechanically dialing Ulric’s number over and over again…
Hang up, redial, hang up, redial.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when suddenly someone rushed forward and hugged her tightly!
She lifted her head in a daze, hoping it was the person she longed for in her heart. But instead, she saw Malcolm’s face.
The faint light in her eyes extinguished.
“I know, I know everything… Rosalind, be strong. I’ll be here with you!”
Malcolm comforted her gently. At his feet were fresh fruits he had bought because he had promised Mrs. Eva last week that he would come by over the weekend to accompany her during rehabilitation.
But what he hadn’t expected was to hear about Mrs. Xu’s passing as soon as he arrived at the hospital room!
His first reaction was to find Rosalind everywhere. Malcolm was afraid she might do something rash.
