Rosalind pressed her lips tightly together, feeling a sense of helplessness.
She knew that once her mother started talking, she would inevitably say something harsh! Over the years, she had always been like this, threatening to cut ties or refusing treatment at the drop of a hat!
“Do I not even have a chance to choose?” Rosalind’s voice trembled slightly, a sign of her desperate struggle, “Just because you made a wrong choice when you were young, does that mean all men are like my father?”
Although she had never seen how her father had won over her mother in their youth, nor did she know the details of their relationship, Rosalind believed that Ulric was not an irresponsible man!
At the very least, he wouldn’t abandon his wife and daughter without a second thought!
She trusted Ulric!
“Are you questioning me?” Eva hadn’t expected that just one night away from the hospital would change her daughter so much. “Do you think I would harm you?”
“I don’t think you would harm me. I just hope you won’t be forever cautious because of one bad experience. Besides…” Rosalind paused before continuing, “This is my life. No matter the outcome, I don’t want to have any regrets.”
The worst-case scenario would be that she misjudged Ulric, and if that happened, she could still live on without him.
She wouldn’t live in the shadow of a past relationship like her mother did!
“You say that because you don’t have children! Imagine if you had a child and got hurt once, wouldn’t you stop your child from making the same mistakes?”
“I wouldn’t,” Rosalind replied firmly. “Because that would be her life! And I would never end my life for any man. If Ulric ever changes his heart and stops loving me, I will forget him and live my life well.”
She would never be like her mother, clinging to the status of a legitimate wife and shutting herself off from any potential happiness.
If she were betrayed, she would quickly adjust her state of mind, whether by focusing on work, traveling, or even starting a new relationship. She wouldn’t let herself be trapped by one man.
“…”
“Mom, it’s been so many years. You should let go.”
Rosalind understood her mother’s emotional baggage. She was holding on out of spite, refusing to divorce or bow down to that other woman.
Initially, Rosalind didn’t oppose her mother’s actions, she thought it was normal for people to want to save face. But as the years passed and she grew up, she realized that the only person truly trapped by the situation was Eva herself!
After being hurt, Eva refused to socialize or let any man get close to her. She even had thoughts of ending her life, which Rosalind thought was the most foolish thing of all.
More foolish than believing in that man in the first place!
Rosalind believed that the best revenge was living better than those who had hurt you.
“How can I let go? Those two are still alive and keep provoking me!” Eva sneered, quickly returning to the main topic. “Don’t think I’ll compromise, including with you and Ulric!”
“Mom… how about I bring him to meet you? Then you can decide.”
“I don’t want to meet him! Men never tell the truth! Do you think I’ll believe any of his promises? If he really can’t live without you, fine. Let him transfer the entire W Group company to your name, and then I’ll believe him!”
