She continued to ask, “So, are you his relative?”
“Why do you think so?”
The nurse stretched her legs and reasoned simply, “You were so anxious yesterday. I thought you were either his girlfriend or a relative.”
“More like an enemy. I don’t want him to die so easily,” Callie said half-jokingly to the young nurse.
The nurse looked at her for a long time and then suddenly smiled playfully, her eyes curving like crescents. “A love-hate relationship?”
Callie turned her head and stopped talking.
Before leaving, the nurse told her, “Didn’t you see the director personally performed the surgery? It’s clear he’s a big shot. He was admitted to the ICU just in case. He won’t die. I heard the director and chief have held several meetings.”
It was meant to reassure Callie.
Unexpectedly, Callie didn’t react much and just said, “He won’t die no matter what.”
As the director of Scott Group, holding many people’s lifelines in his hands, if he died just like that, the outside world would be in turmoil.
She must keep it to herself.
When Jaquan woke up, he first wanted to take a deep breath, but the pain inside him was excruciating.
His mind was a mess; he had several dreams, all about Callie.
He dreamt again of the scene of his car accident, falling into the river, trapped in the car with no one to rescue him, his blood floating in the water, the smell of blood filling his nostrils.
Jaquan opened his eyes and turned his head. The first thing he saw was the wind and rain outside the window.
He had woken up once before but wasn’t aware of it.
So he had been transferred to a VIP ward.
Then he unexpectedly saw Callie asleep by his bedside.
She looked extremely tired, sleeping deeply, her long eyelashes casting a small shadow.
Jaquan thought he was still dreaming and closed his eyes again, falling back asleep. But this time, there was no Callie in his dreams.
When he woke up again, the first person he saw was still Callie. She was no longer sleeping but sitting on a sofa flipping through a magazine.
Jaquan realized he wasn’t dreaming, but he couldn’t move.
Callie heard a muffled groan and looked up, meeting his gaze from afar.
She got up and walked over step by step, finally standing by his bedside, adjusting the drip speed. Jaquan suddenly became very gentle. “Why are you here?”
Callie glanced around him and sighed. “Thanks to you.”
“Why were you racing?”
“Why are you here?” Jaquan continued to ask.
At this moment, Mikayla brought in the doctor. Callie stopped talking. The former turned around and met Jaquan’s cold gaze, seemingly blaming him for coming in.
The doctor was the hospital director. He meticulously examined Jaquan’s body while constantly glancing towards the door with a stern face.
The nurse recording the medical condition couldn’t stand Jaquan’s expression as soon as he woke up. She followed the doctor out and turned back at the door, saying to Jaquan, “Don’t upset the girl. She hasn’t eaten or drunk anything while guarding you for two days.”
Jaquan raised an eyebrow in surprise and looked at his secretary standing aside. He touched his nose and nodded in confirmation.
