“Eat something.” Callie placed the sliced steak in front of her without explaining her actions. “You have a lot of tough battles ahead. How can you fight on an empty stomach?”
Regan looked suspicious. “You’re acting strange, Callie. Stop pretending. Don’t you hate me?”
“Honestly, I don’t.” Callie replied sincerely. The little bit of dislike she had was only because she mistakenly thought Regan had accused her of plagiarism. Without that misunderstanding, she didn’t really dislike her.
“Why?”
“Besides being a bit spoiled, unreasonable, and arrogant, you’re actually quite kind. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital saving me.” Callie smiled. “At most, you’re just a brainless beautiful idiot, and brainless beautiful idiots are not so hateful.”
Regan’s expression changed unpredictably. She couldn’t tell if she was being complimented or insulted.
“You’re the brainless beautiful idiot!”
Callie held her face in her hands. “If there’s anything in the hospital you need help with, let me know. I might not have many other skills, but I’ve gotten pretty familiar with all the departments over the years.”
Reluctantly, Regan started eating. For the first time, she found that the woman in front of her wasn’t so detestable.
“Are you showing off?”
“Missy, who would show off about hospital stuff?” Callie was incredulous.
Regan paused, feeling choked. “Can you not tell Nelson about my current situation?”
The mention of his name made Callie feel choked too. “I don’t need to tell him; he probably already knows…”
She realized and smiled bitterly. “Yeah, the whole of Ylosea probably knows by now.”
The world never lacks those who add to your success but lacks those who help you in times of need. It seemed Regan had faced a lot of disdain recently.
Callie waited for a car by the roadside while Regan remained in the restaurant. Through the window, Regan watched Callie’s back with a confused look.
She hesitated for a long time before dialing a number. The phone rang for a while before it was answered. “Hello.”
Regan took a deep breath. “Can I borrow some money from you?”

The car that arrived for Callie was a blue Cayenne. She hesitated slightly when she saw it.
The driver got out and opened the door. “Miss Marsh, please.”
Callie hesitated for a moment, unsure how to face the man inside.
Jaquan was wearing only a black shirt today, looking very serious as he read the newspaper.
He glanced at her and smiled. “Looks like I won’t need to buy you dinner.”
Callie stared straight ahead. “You didn’t respond to me earlier because of this.”
Jaquan put away the newspaper. “The Padilla family used to be wealthy, but they’ve squandered most of it in recent years. Regan is just a spoiled girl who knows nothing. We’ve watched her grow up; we have to help her.”
That made Callie seem petty.
“Plagiarism has nothing to do with her.”
The car drove smoothly. Callie saw the vibrant spring outside but felt no relief in her heart. “You and Nelson get information so quickly.”
Her tone was sarcastic.
Jaquan wasn’t angry. He crossed his legs. “I have people in Club Paradise.” Meaning he knew everything.
His straightforwardness left Callie speechless. She glared at him. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell everyone?”
“Go ahead.” He smiled.
She wanted to tear apart his confident demeanor!
