In a private space, she asked softly, “He speaks and acts sincerely, has a respectable job, and cares about you a lot, so you two…”
Callie looked at her seriously, “We have no relationship. If there must be one, he would only be my friend.”
Aimee furrowed her brows and suddenly stopped, as if she understood something, “You have someone you like, don’t you?”
Callie lowered her head, neither confirming nor denying, “I am already married.”
Aimee’s eyes widened in shock, her tone changing instantly, “What did you say!”
She got married? How could she just get married like that!
Callie thought, even though she was slowly disappointed in Nelson, she still couldn’t erase his place in her heart and their story.
“Just last year.”
Aimee’s breathing became rapid upon hearing this, her chest heaving in disbelief, “Does Tobias know?”
“He knows.” Callie shook her head regretfully, “Tobias is a very calm person. The calmer he is, the harder it is for me to speak. The better he treats me, the more guilty I feel. So I hope you can help me talk to him.”
Aimee’s expression was somewhat strange, “Who is the person you married?”
Callie met her gaze and slowly shook her head, “It’s not who you think.”
Aimee slowly stepped back, her brows tightly knitted, “I thought it would be…”
“It’s impossible with him in this lifetime.”
At the same time, in another large room with all the lights on, making it feel like a warm home.
A man sat cross-legged on the floor, his head slightly lowered, his face showing a blend of desolation and delicate beauty.
His slender fingers looked particularly attractive under the warm light, holding a high-resolution photo between his index finger and thumb. The photo showed a quiet woman.
She was walking on a street illuminated by streetlights, her head lowered, the hem of her white dress slightly lifted, looking stunningly beautiful in the night.
Outside the man’s feet, the floor was covered with photos of her walking, entering a hotel, sitting by a hotel window, crying on a table… each photo capturing different states, all of the same woman.
Callie.
Someone knocked and entered, respectfully handing over an envelope, “Mr. Oconnor, Mrs. Oconnor went out today.”
Nelson took the envelope expressionlessly, his fingers quickly tearing it open to reveal still-warm photos inside. He looked through them one by one, his face becoming darker than it had been in days.
He suddenly threw the photos forcefully onto the ground. Callie, you are really something!
Aimee stayed with Callie in Ylosea for two days. When she returned to Ylosea, they saw each other off all the way to security. Before entering security, she said, “See you again.”
Tobias gave her a hug and thanked her.
Aimee stood in front of Callie, her voice cold and hard, “Next time you come to Ylosea, I’ll host you.”
“Sure.”
“What happened between you and Aimee?” On the way back, Tobias asked while driving, “You both seemed off.”
Callie lied without blinking, “It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other; there’s bound to be some awkwardness.”
Tobias responded with an “Hmm,” then asked casually, “After talking with her, do you feel better?”
Callie felt a bitterness in her mouth at his words. She organized her thoughts and took a deep breath before saying, “Tobias, thank you for trying everything to help me. But my problems can’t be solved just by friends.”
