Chapter 278: An Ambitious Existence

“It’s not Nelson’s fault. He intentionally wants to train Shamar and you,” the elderly man across from her said slowly. “Training isn’t a bad thing, but-don’t you feel tired?”
His weathered eyes carried a knowing look.
“You shouldn’t have gotten involved in these matters.”
Callie wasn’t foolish. She leaned forward slightly. “Do you have any good suggestions, Uncle?”
“A strong alliance.”
Callie left the tearoom with a smile.
Kieran leaned against the wall, smoking, exchanging glances with Dale’s men. When they saw Callie come out, they immediately followed her.
Callie walked straight ahead, Dale’s last words floating in her mind: “You’re always welcome to ask what kind of tea I brewed today.”
“That day might never come.”
The 21st century developed faster than anyone could have imagined.
Within an hour, Nelson’s call reached Callie.
At this time, he probably hadn’t gone to sleep yet, either reading documents or just finishing a conference call.
“I’ve heard a lot about Dale in many places. I’m just surprised that someone so brainless still has supporters,” Callie commented on Dale.
Nelson chuckled leisurely. “Just a lot of smoke and mirrors; he can’t go back to the past.”
When heading to the Oconnor family, she had been briefed on Dale’s story.
In that generation of the Oconnor family, there were two sons. Nelson’s father was the eldest, followed by Dale.
So it had always been a fight between Dale and Nelson’s father. Later, when Nelson’s father passed away, it became a struggle between Nelson and Dale. Over the years, there had been many open and covert battles for central power, with Dale constantly struggling.
He was a very ambitious existence.
But Nelson never thought that Dale would dare to target Callie and the Oconnor Group.
It was insane.
He couldn’t help but wonder if Callie would have agreed to team up with Dale if Kieran hadn’t informed her about it. The temptation Dale offered was quite attractive.
There were no “ifs.” At least at this moment, talking to her, she showed no signs of rebellion.
Nelson’s voice remained gentle as always. “Return to Ylosea tomorrow.”
Callie rejecting Dale’s proposal didn’t mean that everything Dale said was wrong.
At least Nelson did intentionally make her take a wasted trip.
He seemed to know he was in the wrong and personally went to the airport the next day to wait for her in the VIP lounge.
From afar, he saw her shadowy figure gradually approaching. It felt strange; though they had only been apart for a day, it felt like a long time, making him feel a bit nervous and moved.
Nelson took Callie’s suitcase from Kieran and naturally tried to hold her hand. However, Callie deliberately-or rather, intentionally-put her hands into her coat pockets. Her gaze was innocent and harmless as she looked at him. “What’s wrong?”
Behind them, the secretary and Kieran watched as Nelson indulgently admitted his mistake. “I was wrong.”
Then came a soft apology, barely audible to anyone but them, revealing how Mr. Oconnor coaxed his wife.
Callie feigned ignorance. “What did you do wrong?”
It was like coaxing a child. He smiled helplessly. “Callie…”
Callie knew her limits and didn’t dare push too far.
Because every time he coaxed her in front of others, he would make up for it doubly in bed, which was was his special hobby, as if she was the one who had done something wrong.
