Chapter 266: Do Me a Favor

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-10-15

Today, Nelson had a social engagement, an interview with the Oconnor Group. He was the main figure, attracting numerous media and executives.
Callie had nothing else to do, so she joined Litzy on the thirty-second floor to join the excitement.
There were many familiar faces at the internal gathering.
From a distance, Callie saw Nelson make his entrance. Outside of his usual life, he was courteous and composed, but his sharp gaze couldn’t be hidden, and the smile on his lips was fake.
Litzy couldn’t help but whisper, “Did you see Mr. Oconnor’s scandal earlier this year? He moved in with a woman. I told you she looked a lot like you. I’m so jealous. What does it feel like to be cherished by Nelson?”
Callie felt guilty. Cherished? It didn’t seem like it, only endless frustration.
She watched him as if standing outside of reality, observing how he discarded his prepared speech and delivered a magnificent address, answering questions with ease as the flashlights perfectly illuminated him.
He was indeed outstanding. Callie snapped back to reality amidst the thunderous applause, raising a respectful smile and clapping along.
At that moment, the man on the podium glanced around and accurately spotted Callie in the corner.
His eyes showed a hint of surprise but quickly retracted under the public’s gaze.
Soon after, Callie’s phone buzzed with a message: No drinking.
She reluctantly put down her red wine and exchanged it for a glass of orange juice with a waiter.
Callie wandered around, seeing some familiar faces, notably those Nelson had introduced her to last time.
They exchanged friendly smiles and raised their glasses to her from afar.
After greeting those she knew, Callie left the banquet hall and found a quiet corner to sit down.
Another message arrived: Don’t go too far. I’ll pick you up when it’s over.
Callie typed back word by word: Got it.
Nelson saw her reply and smiled slightly, already imagining her impatient expression.
Indeed, Callie wore such an expression, which Jaquan noticed.
The air was filled with floral scents. Her playful demeanor was evident, like fallen petals with more emotion.
Jaquan pulled out a chair and sat down. “What a coincidence.”
Callie was surprised. “This is Oconnor Group.”
“I know,” he replied nonchalantly with a smile. “Haven’t seen you in a while. You’ve gotten prettier.”
Callie rolled her eyes. “What are you doing here?”
“Callie, one must have some flair in life, especially towards a man who’s had a drink,” Jaquan said, loosening his tie, clearly drunk.
Understanding his implication, Callie smiled faintly and called a waiter. “Do I look like someone without flair? What would you like to drink? It’s on me.”
Jaquan chose the most expensive option, and Callie didn’t bat an eye.
He looked at her pure profile and felt stirred inside.
“Now can you tell me why you’re here?”
“Nelson is giving a speech. Everyone in the circle flocks to it. Of course, I had to come.”
Callie couldn’t find fault with his explanation. She looked at him, finding him increasingly mysterious. “Since you came to listen to my husband’s speech, shouldn’t you do me a favor?”
Jaquan was intrigued. “Like what?”
“For example, tell me why Lucia returned to the country.”
“Your husband didn’t tell you?” Jaquan replied mockingly, without hiding his disdain.
