“How dare you show your face here and cause trouble, trying to clear your name after embezzling the company’s assets? Let me tell you, you won’t get your hands on the Adams family’s property. Since you’re back, you might as well return all the money to me!”
With these words, Jamie strode towards Georgia.
At this point, he decided to go all in and expose Georgia’s true colors. It was impossible for him to hand over the money; otherwise, wouldn’t he become the one who had schemed against his own family? Once labeled as such, he would eventually be expelled from the family. Fortunately, he had only spread the lie about Georgia running away from home. If he had claimed she was dead, the situation would have been irreparable.
Hearing this, Georgia couldn’t help but sneer, her eyes filled with contempt for Jamie.
“Jamie, wasn’t it you who absconded with the company’s money? You colluded with them to sell out my whereabouts and even tried to have me killed. Even if I were dead, you’d still treat me like this. What a wonderful brother you are!”
Stung by her words, Jamie hastily defended himself, “That’s utter nonsense! Don’t you know what you’ve done? Who’s been managing the company’s assets? It’s always been you, hasn’t it? Even though there’s a finance department, they all dance to your tune when you speak. Now the money’s gone, and you have the audacity to say it wasn’t you who took it?”
Before Georgia could respond, Kayden stepped forward and posed a question, “Since you claim my wife took the money, I won’t argue with you about that. But can you answer a few questions?”
Jamie glanced at Kayden disdainfully and sneered, “You? What right do you have to question me?”
Ignoring Jamie’s attitude, Kayden pressed on, “Who reported to Grandmother first about the company’s assets being transferred? You or Lara?”
Jamie pointed to himself confidently. “Of course it was me. I rushed over as soon as I found out. You think I don’t know anything?”
Kayden followed up. “Then on what grounds do you say it was my wife who transferred the company’s assets? Did you witness it yourself, or did you hear it from someone else?”
Jamie hesitated for a moment before retorting, “Isn’t it obvious? I’ve got all your tricks figured out. I’ve always been a master strategist, just haven’t shown my full hand. I originally wanted to be a mere observer, but your performance has pushed me to my limits. I had no choice but to reveal my true self.”
Kayden scoffed, “I think this is all your carefully orchestrated plan. Although you lack the intelligence, you must have spent last night preparing extensively, drafting your script more than twice.”
Jamie was surprised to hear this, as he had indeed spent the previous night making extensive preparations and writing numerous drafts.
But he couldn’t possibly admit to that, so he dismissively said, “You’ve lost your mind.”
Kayden’s gaze turned cold as he fixed his eyes on Jamie, his tone icy. “Jamie, I’ve held back from taking action against you out of respect for you being my wife’s brother. But you’ve repeatedly crossed the line. Your actions are enough to warrant a death sentence.”
Hearing this, Jamie couldn’t help but laugh, retorting with a grin, “Death sentence? You must be out of your mind. Well, you’ve always been a bit off. I’m not interested in talking to you anymore. Georgia, hand over the company’s funds.”
Jamie’s gaze remained firmly fixed on Georgia.
“Jamie, aren’t the company’s funds with you? Do I need to help you recall how things unfolded?” Kayden calmly observed Jamie as he posed the question.
Jamie snorted contemptuously, replying, “I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Stop wasting time and shut up.”
Ignoring Jamie’s rudeness, Kayden shifted his position slightly in the hall, adopting a thoughtful pose as he said, “Two days ago, that man called Cheetah found you, didn’t he? He must have offered you quite an incentive. Let me guess what could tempt you. The position of head of the Adams family, yes, they used that position to lure you. They asked you to find my wife’s location and then make a move against her. If they were just ordinary gangsters, you might not have dared to make such a deal, but with the Ford family backing them, you agreed to their demands and found my wife’s location. After that, they kidnapped my wife and told you she would be killed.”
“Hearing this news, you were naturally overjoyed, as Georgia was your biggest obstacle. So you revealed your plan to take over Adams Group to them, and after a night of plotting, you came here. In your mind, my wife was already dead, so you fabricated a lie about her absconding with the funds, believing a dead person couldn’t pose a threat to you. In reality, that money had long since fallen into your pocket, isn’t that right?”
This deduction was flawless, as if Kayden had witnessed the entire process firsthand.
If Jamie hadn’t been certain that no one was around, he would have almost believed that Kayden had been secretly following him the whole time.
Jamie stared at Kayden, his gaze steady. To him, anyone’s tricks were nothing more than bluffs. He could discern others’ thoughts with just a glance; for Jamie, no one could keep a secret from him.
“Nonsense!” Jamie’s tongue began to trip over itself, his whole demeanor showing a hint of panic.
In fact, for someone like Jamie, whether in speech or action, once exposed, their words inevitably become full of loopholes. Sure enough, he gave himself away as soon as he opened his mouth. Not everyone could remain calm under pressure, and clearly, Jamie hadn’t reached that level yet.
“Jamie!” Old Mrs. Adams’s gaze suddenly turned to Jamie, her voice stern with rebuke.
Jamie was taken aback as Old Mrs. Adams continued in a chilling tone, “Is this true? Did you really intend to harm your sister? I’ve said before that you can compete fairly, but I absolutely forbid you to harm each other.”
“Of course not, Grandma. How could I possibly do such a thing? They’re clearly slandering me. I’ve been a Adams family member all my life. How could I do anything to harm the family’s interests? They’re obviously trying to smear my name, pinning their crimes on me,” Jamie desperately argued.
