The gaze from that eye felt like they were cutting her to the marrow. It sent chills through her as if thousands of insects were crawling over her skin.
He was pinning her down, and his body loomed over her like an immovable mountain, which made her feel like even breathing was a chore.
Tears kept streaming down Georgia’s cheeks, yet she couldn’t make a sound, even the faintest whimper. An intense fear gripped her throat.
She feared that a single sob from her would drive this monster to cut her into pieces, just like how he killed that fat guy.
A murder had just unfolded before her eyes! She had witnessed someone being cruelly killed in an instant.
Georgia was merely an ordinary person, and she had never expected to confront such a brutal scene in her lifetime.
Suddenly, Damian raised his hand. As his fingertip touched Georgia’s face, she trembled as if jolted by a powerful electric shock.
His fingers traced her smooth skin, lingering for a moment before sweeping back and forth in a slow rhythm.
His large hand moved to her chin, clutching it roughly. This strong, calloused hand was like a venomous snake, and stung her cheek with a sharp bite.
Yet, at that instant, fear clawed at Georgia, drowning out everything else in her mind!
Despite all her repulsion and inner resistance, she helplessly found herself no strength to stop everything at all. She’s like putty in his hands now.
Damian jerked up Georgia’s head, forcing her gaze to collide with his. He was a figure of pure terror, with thick brows and a piercing gaze that seemed to bore into her soul. Even looking directly at his open eye would be a challenge.
Faced with such a menacing presence, Georgia felt she would rather embrace death than endure any of his touch.
Yet now, she didn’t even have a chance to end her own life since they had her hands and feet bound. She couldn’t move a muscle.
She could only look at this man with desperation as tears streamed down her face.
Out of the blue, Damian lifted his other hand toward Georgia’s face. His fingers brushed against her tears, and then came his cold voice, “Why are you crying? Don’t be afraid!”
His words hung in the air. Next second, there was a sharp ripping sound as the tape over Georgia’s mouth was torn away. A wave of pain coursed through her. She felt a burning sensation on her lips.
Once the tape was ripped off, Georgia meant to speak, but words failed her. She found herself unable to utter a single word because this man loomed too close. His overwhelming presence left her voiceless.
She felt literally drained, and how could she summon the strength to confront this towering figure? It was as if an immense weight had pressed down on her so that her every attempt to speak was crushed beneath the burden of her fear. Not even a whimper escaped her lips.
Ever since she got the education, she was taught that she lived in a peaceful country. What happened right now was something she had never imagined to happen, not even in her nightmare.
In that moment, she felt as if the Grim Reaper was looming over her, brandishing his scythe. A chilling thought ran through her mind that she’s about to die.
While just then, Damian loosened his grip on her chin and slowly withdrew his hand. He stepped back a few paces and turned his back to her. “The Ford family, I don’t understand what’s going on in their heads. Why would they offer such a high price for the life of a girl? Is she truly worth that kind of money?” he muttered.
Before Georgia could respond, Cheetah interrupted, “Damian, you’re underestimating her because you don’t know the whole story. She’s not as simple as you think. We’ve made several attempts to hunt her down these days, but every time we try to get close, the Guards always show up to intervene. It’s almost as if they can predict trouble, so they’re there specifically to protect her.”
During this time, Cheetah had made numerous attempts to aim at Georgia, but each time he was thwarted by the Guards. They always appeared at the moments when Cheetah thought he was about to succeed, perfectly disrupting his plans.
After several failed attempts, Cheetah realized that kidnapping Georgia would be more difficult than he had anticipated. So, he decided to change his strategy. He chose to lure her out, and this time he finally made it. He had to say it all thanked to her brother, Jamie Adams.
“Oh really?” said Damian in a flat tone. Clearly, he didn’t put Cheetah’s words in heart. His gaze fell on Georgia once more.
Yet after a brief second, he averted his eyes.
Perhaps it was because Damian had created some distance between them two, Georgia finally had the strength to fight back her fear. She managed to utter her first words, “Why?”
“Why does the Ford family want me dead? Is it because of Karis Ford?”
There was no hatred or grievance between her and the Ford family. She couldn’t fathom why such a powerful family would have any desire to see her dead.
The only possible explanation lay in Karis Ford, whom Georgia had some conflicts with. Yet those conflicts were not enough to drive the Ford family to aim at her life.
Damian paused for a moment and then answered, “That’s between you two. I have no reason to answer any of your questions.”
His words made his position clear. He got paid to take her life, which was his only task, so he didn’t give a damn about everything else.
Cheetah chimed in with a grin, “It’s quite simple-they don’t like you! The Ford family never needs a reason to do anything. If they want to take your life, it’s as easy as that. They’ve done the same thing to plenty of people before. Hey girl, I don’t know who you are, but here’s my kind advice for you; be more careful in your next life!”
As soon as these words left his mouth, a chill ran through Cheetah. Though his words might sound impressive to others, they came across as incredibly naive in front of Damian. Cheetah’s shiver of fear actually stemmed from the icy gaze fixed on him at this moment.
Damian stared at Cheetah, his voice cold. “I won’t mind getting your blood on my hands if I hear one more word from you.”
Cheetah hurriedly raised a hand to cover his mouth, falling silent at once.
“I tore the tape off your mouth just to ask you one question,” Damian added.
Georgia gazed at Damian and swallowed hard. A wave of helpless resistance surged within her. Why? Why could they target anyone simply because they disliked them? Did money truly grant them the right to do everything? Shouldn’t money and power be used as a tool to help others? Why were they targeting her? Who gave them the right?
Thousands of doubts whirled within her, but she didn’t voice a single one.
Damian ignored her gaze and coldly asked, “The Ford family is offering one hundred million for your life. But if you can offer double the price, I can spare your life.”
Cheetah rolled his eyes as he heard these words. He parted his lips, but swallowed his words back when he thought of Damian’s fierce expression just now.
