“Sir, you have a meeting in the afternoon with the foreign delegate, before that you have a lunch meeting with one of our clients,” Paul informed Sebastian about his schedule. Sebastian didn’t respond to him, he was engrossed in the report in his hand. Paul sighed, he felt sad for his boss. If it wasn’t for that accident three years ago and the disappearance of Mrs. Kylie then his boss wouldn’t be a workaholic like this.
“Mr. Smith,” Paul said clearing his throat a bit louder. Sebastian frowned before rising head from the report.
“Any news on Kylie?” he asked and that was the most dreaded question Paul was facing for the last three years.
“Sir, our people are constantly searching but still they couldn’t find any trace of Mrs. Smith. Police already lost all hope and closed the case. According to them, Miss Kylie didn’t survive the fall and her body may have been washed away by the water. Why don’t you also stop waiting for her,” as soon as those words left Paul’s lips, he heard a loud thud and the table in front of him smashed into pieces.
“How many times should I remind you that Kylie isn’t dead? I know she’s alive somewhere. So stop whining like an impotent and continue searching,” Sebastian yelled at him.
Paul nodded to her and rushed out of the cabin closing the door behind him. It has been three years since the accident and Kylie’s car fell from the hill into the river. The car was crushed into pieces. The police found Kylie’s blood in several places but her body wasn’t found there. Sebastian didn’t stop searching for her no matter what others said.
“Mr. Smith is in a bad mood today, are you sure you want to meet him?” Paul asked Mae who was waiting outside Sebastian’s office.
“No problem, he won’t mind me meeting him and you know that,” Mae said with a sweet smile. Paul nodded and opened the door to his cabin for her.
Sebastian raised his head to see Mae walking inside his cabin. His grim face became soft seeing her delicate features. He stood up from his chair and rushed forward.
“Watch out, there’s glass on the floor,” Sebastian stopped her from walking on the glass shards.
“Sorry, I didn’t see the mess. I heard from Paul that you were in a bad mood so I wanted to see you. Are you okay? Have you heard anything about Kylie?” Kylie asked all those words in a breath and started breathing heavily. Sebastian held her farmly and made her sit on the couch.
“Why are you talking so much? You are in poor health, you should have rest in the house,” Sebastian scolded her with concern and called Paul.
“Sir?” Paul said after coming inside the cabin.
“Ask someone to clean the room and prepare my car,” Sebastian ordered and handed a glass of water to Mae. Paul nodded and left the room.
“Let’s go, let me drive you home,” he said. Mae stood up but lost her balance the next second. Sebastian helped her to from falling and carried her in his hands. He then strode toward the elevator with her.
As soon as Sebastian came out of the office building he saw several press members were waiting outside. They started clicking photos of the couple.
“Mr. Smith, when are we hearing the news of your and Miss Wiggins marriage?”
“Mr. Smith, are you engaged already?”
“Mr. Smith, is it true that Smith Corp and Wiggins group are merging together?”
The journalists continued to ask questions and Sebastian ignored them all. His bodyguards made sure the journalists were at a distance from him. He put Mae inside the passenger seat of the car and closed the door. He then rushed to the other side of the car and opened the car door.
“Mr. Smith, have you already forgotten about your dead wife? The rumors said you had a hand in her death, is it true?” one journalist asked. Sebastian’s hand which was opening the car door paused. His facial expression changed and it became colder. He turned toward the press members with bloodshot eyes. He walked near them and roamed his eyes around to find the one who asked the question now. But he didn’t see his face.
“Let me tell you guys one last time. My wife isn’t dead. She is alive and I will find her soon. Don’t spread rumors or else I will burn whatever shitty media company you work for,” Sebastian said with gritted teeth and turned around abruptly. He entered the car and pulled the car door hard.
His hands clenching the steering wheel became white because of his hard grip. Mae watched his every action silently without changing any expression on her face. She slowly raised her hand and placed it over Sebastian’s hand.
“Calm down, they are media, asking nonsense questions is part of their jobs. So, ignore them, okay?” she said brushing her thumb over his knuckles.
“How could they say she was dead? Nobody saw her body. So she may be alive, right? Her body must have washed away by the river to somewhere far from here,” Sebastian said with a pained look in his eyes. Mae pulled him into a hug and patted him on his back.
“They don’t know what you are going through. But I understand your pain. I am with you, so relax. I am sure one day we will find her,” she said with concern laced in her voice. But if anyone saw her eyes, they could see the hatred and anger in it. It was for Kylie only.
In her mind, she wished that Kylie’s body was eaten by crocodiles. She would never let her come back to life and snatch Sebastian from her. She worked hard to make a place in Sebastian’s heart. Sebastian is now a puppet in her hand. He is ready to jump in the fire for her. Why would she pray for the return of that bitch?
