I laid on the bed in what seem like hours just watching the ceiling and a listening to her breathing slowly.
Standing up from the bed I searched for my phone and noticed it was few minutes to one.
Tip toeing into the bathroom I turned on the shower and let the cold water wash off the heat.
Have held on to the memories of Nora far too long it was time to let her go, I don’t intend on having anything serious with Sandra, possibly just sex, but I intend on letting her know so she won’t have her hopes up.
Not like I know what she wants, but one thing I’m certain of is that we’ve both been attracted to each other for a very long time.
Going back into the room, I picked up my stuffs, dressed up, while trying to make as little noise as possible, I opened the door, got in my car and took off.
This might seem like me running away but the morning after sex is always too emotional and I’m certainly not in for that.
Not like I was expecting to meet Jake at home but I still checked his room anyways and just as I’ve thought. He wasn’t in there.
So many thoughts were running through my head, I keep feeling like I’m missing out something but I can’t pinpoint on what exactly it is.
I picked up my phone, scrolling through my contacts and i came across Nora’s, I was so tempted to call her, I can’t believe that even after having sex with a very beautiful woman I was still thinking about her.
The opening of the entrance door jolt me out of my thoughts.
“Jake?” I called out walking down the stairs.
There he was obviously drunk, staggering into the apartment.
“Don’t tell me you drove yourself down here in this state?” I said running towards him to give him a little bit of support, he obviously looks like he will be falling to the ground at any second.
“Don’t touch me.” He barked at me pushing my hands off.
“Watch your tone young man.”
“Or else what? Huh?” He said using both his hands to push me. “Or else what? Tell me… Are you gonna humiliate me any further?”
“You’re obviously very drunk right now and it’s pointless conversing with you. Go upstairs I’ll bring you a sober tea.”
“Don’t tell me what to do okayy.. Don’t think you’ve got any rights to tell me what to do. You could have just stucked up to not giving me any of the shares, rather than humiliating me like that, the lowest share holder in the company has atleast five percent shares, and now you’ve automatically made me the lowest share holder who doesn’t even have a say in the company affairs. I said I wanted to be part of the company activities, not a laughing stock to everyone in the company.”
“When you’re in your right senses we’ll have this conversation, you can do whatever you please right now. I’m off to bed, have got work to do in the morning.” I said turning around to leave.
“You think you’re perfect right, trying to uphold honesty, meanwhile your life is just as shitty as everyone else, reason why even after knowing Nora wasn’t to be blamed for anything you choose not to stand by her, because you’re afraid of what everyone will say, that’s why right now you’re giving me three percent shares cause you’re afraid of what everyone will say if you give me more. You’re more worried about everyone’s opinion in your life, meanwhile no one actually gives a fuck.”
“Enough! That’s enough.”
“No it isn’t, why do you think Kate is so far away? I’ll tell you, is because she doesn’t have to deal with your shit. Because you prioritize everyone and everything else over your family. You trust everyone and everything else over your family. I know no matter how much I point it out and shout you’ll still do what you please.” He said staggering up the stairs.
I stood there frozen on my tracks not knowing what to say or even what to do.
I climbed up the stairs to my room and just laid back hoping for sleep to consume me, however sleep didn’t come, my thoughts kept drifting back to what Jake said. Deep down I knew he was right, but I just didn’t want to believe him.
The morning sun flickered into my room and I woke up to series of messages. One off which I noticed was from Sandra.
For a very long time I didn’t desire to go to work today, my head hurts like mad, as a matter of fact I wish I could just curl up in my covers and go back to sleep.
I tossed my phone at the side of the bed and just did as my body desired.
It was passed noon when my eyes flickered open again from the continuous ringing of my phone.
I sluggishly picked it up, “Hello…” I said to the person on the phone.
“Have dropped you loads of messages and calls, why haven’t you been responding?”
“I’m sorry, I was asleep.”
“Are you okay? You don’t sound so well.” Sandra said, her voice laced with worry.
“I’m fine.” I said.
“I don’t believe you. Send me your house address, I’m coming to see for myself.”
“You really don’t have to Sandra, I’m perfectly fine.”
“Seeing is believing Ray, cause why else will you disappear so early in the morning?”
“Alright if you insist I’ll text you the address when the call ends.”
She ended the call almost immediately and I texted her the address as promised.
In less than thirty minutes she was already at the door.
“Did you fly down or something?” I asked teasingly.
“Not funny..” she said bringing her hands to my forehead. “you’re burning up.”
“Am I?” I asked trying to feel my temperature with the back of my hands as well.
“Yes you’re.”
“I don’t think so, maybe your hands are just too cold and my body is warmer, it doesn’t mean I’m feeling sick or rather burning up like you said.”
“I’m not a child Ray, and can definitely tell when someone is having a fever and right now you’re having a fever.” She said placing her hands on her waist.
“Alright, alright do as you please, just don’t kill me, have still got so much to accomplish.”
I led her to the bedroom where she requested for a towel which she dipped on a bowl of cold water and placed on my head.
I didn’t know how much I needed it until it actually came in contact with my skin.
“Please turn off the AC..” I said shivering.
“Damn I’m really sick.” I thought pulling the blanket, to cover myself up.
“Do you, like, have a personal doctor I can call?” She asked rubbing my palm to generate heat.
“Yes,” I said pulling out my phone to dial his number. She took the phone from me and spoke with him.
Some moments later he arrived, with his equipment and all.
At this point I could slowly feel myself slipping out of consciousness, he gave me a couple of injection, and that was the last thing I could recall.
“You’re up finally?” Was what I heard the moment my eyes shot open. “I’m glad I got here at the right time.” She said checking my temperature with a thermometer she must have gotten from the doctor.
“Your temperature is better now.”
“Thank you. Did you see my son when you got here?” I asked. I honestly didn’t know why but for some reason I’m worried about him and hope he’ll come around.
“No I didn’t.” She said.
“Alright.”
“I made soup, it will help you recover faster.” She said passing me a flask.
She brought the spoon up attempting to feed me, however I took the spoon from her hands.
“It’s fine, I can feed myself. Thanks.” I said smiling politely at her.
It was actually very awkward having her doing all of these, especially after running from her apartment last night.
“I’m sorry I left without as much as saying goodbye.”
“Why did you anyways?” She asked raising her eyebrows.
“I just didn’t want you to get any impression.”
“What impression?”
“I’m really not looking out for any commitments right now, and as a lady I assume you are.”
“Well I understand how you feel, but the truth is I just want to be around you, I just want you, committed or not.”
“So you don’t mind if it’s just sex between us?”
“I honestly don’t mind.”
“Pheeew, I’m relieved then, no strings attached, just sex. Deal?”
“Deal.” She said smiling broadly at me.
