ARIANA’S POV~
I have betrayed my promise to Serena for a man that barely knows who I am.
Sent my brother back to a miserable existence for a man who doesn’t love me.
Who have I become? This dangerous life? What am I becoming?
I watched my father confirm from the second man if I had kept my end of the bargain.
He nodded in satisfaction and my father smiled.
“Good” he started before seeking assistance to get up from where he sat beside Mateo.
As he stepped out of the door, I ran to my husband’s side, “Mateo are you okay?” I asked, “yeah” he replied slowly.
“And Ariana” he started, “welcome to the mafia life” he laughed.
“Kill them, make it eventful, like Romeo and Juliet” he finished, I froze in horror as the first man with the gun raised his hand to my face, I started to tremble in fear as I held on to Mateo.
I could hear my father laughing away as he went, “Stupid girl” I heard him say.
The gunman raised the gun higher and higher until it was over my head, he grinned and then in one swift move he shot the air over my head, I turned as I heard the explosion.
It rocked the floor hard and landed on the floor, hard on my knees.
Mateo grabbed me before my head could hit the floor, balancing me as I landed.
The fire started the spread across the room and the man quickly closed the door.
“Oh my god! Oh my god!” I started to panic loudly.
Mateo was weak and he wouldn’t do anything at the moment, I was on my own.
I heard my father drive off, and soon after the entire room was engulfed in flames.
I needed to get the fuck out! But how?
Mateo started to gasp for breath, and I didnt know what to do, then he started to hit the bed, he said, I coughed, “What?” I asked as I looked in the direction he pointed as he hit his hospital bed.
I looked at the bed, oh shit why didn’t I think of that? “are you sure?” I asked.
He nodded as he gasped for air continuously and coughed.
As the room burned pieces of it started to break away and fall all around us.
It was now or never, I stood behind Mateo and grabbed the handles of the bed rails and with all my power I braced myself and started running.
I rammed into the door and the hinges dislocated.
I ran for it and broke it down with the rest of my strength, I wheeled Mateo out, and we ran a safe distance before I stopped to catch my breath.
As we breathed fresh air I heard Mateo say something, “What?” I asked moving closer to him.
I bent low to hear him, he repeated his words but I still couldn’t understand.
As I turned to ask again our lips touched for a brief moment, But he didn’t pull back, he kissed me
“Thanks” I finally heard.
I blushed sheepishly and I couldn’t hide it, I quickly adjusted my gait and turned the other way.
The soldiers who had parked a mile away at my behest had heard the blast and were well on their way.
They quickly secured Mateo, and soon we were on our way back home.
“Hospital ma’am?” they asked, “no, we are taking him home, get dr Alonzo and bring him to me” I replied.
“He wasn’t willing the last time” he replied, “what’s your name?” I inquired before sniffling.
” Alessio” he replied, “Alessio, you are now my caporegime, I don’t care how you do it, get him and his entire fucking team to the estate!” I exclaimed.
He was shocked and so were the others around him, even I was shocked, but I needed someone who knew this way of life.
I needed help, Julius may be dead and Mateo may not survive tonight.
I stroked his head as the emergency response we got on standby rushed him inside the estate to stabilize him.
Becky ran to meet him as they wheeled him away, “what the hell, happened?” she inquired, but I was in no mood for her.
I followed the medics and I watched as they rushed to resuscitate him and luckily they did.
I heaved a sigh of relief and I headed up to my room.
I was relieved to learn that Alessio was taking his job seriously, within the hour he had brought a team of doctors to the estate, each one bound and gagged.
Dr Alonzo was among them.
I walked towards him, my eyes stung from the smoke, and tears flowed freely.
I took the gag away from his mouth before I spoke, “i’m sure you are all confused, but Dr Alonzo is familiar with this, so he will guide you” I started.
“Signora, I don’t take lightly to being kidnapped, i have patients to see..”
I slapped the taste out of his mouth as I spoke, “You will never compare my husband to any other person again, fix him!” I roared in anger.
They all scurried away, and one of the soldiers led the way.
Alessio stayed back, “we have work to do Alessio” I started, “first we need to find evidence, to ruin my father, mine will be the last face he sees before I put a bullet in his skull” I replied.
He nodded and departed.
I sat on the sofa, deep in thoughts, they were eroded by the thoughts of my siblings, and I gave them up without so much as a fight.
As I sat there I dreaded her call but I knew it would come, I picked up the phone and didn’t say a word.
“Ariana, what the hell is going on? Luna just called me to tell me she was handed off to Eliano, she refused to go and she ran away but she’s there right now! With him! You promised!” she cried.
Tears rolled down my cheek, “he was going to kill Mateo! He had a gun to his head. I’m sorry” I started.
“I can’t believe it, when you left I told Luna we went overboard, because I cared, and I tried to convince Luna that you were our sister, but I can see that it’s all been in my head” she replied.
“Serena…” I cried, “i’m sorry”
“You care about a man who fucked you to get on Papa’s last nerve, a man who is using you to claim Papa’s power,” she said, her tone cold.
“I was going to give you feedback on the little errand you sent me, but I can see that I’d rather eat dog shit than tell you anything,” she said.
My heart broke, “Serena please it’s important I know” I pleaded, clenching the phone tightly.
“And tomas? What about poor tomas?” she inquired in a worried tone.
My voice started to break again, “he has him too”
There was silence on the other end and then she said something that pierced my heart.
“You are dead to me Ariana”
My heart sank, I couldn’t hold the pain anymore, and my heart wrenched as I thought of tomas, I broke down and cried.
