Serene
Juancho failed to get into Alex’s company, and I’m sure he will also try with Serendipity. According to Enzo, they are now using Lorenzo. But no matter what they do, I know they won’t succeed because Patt is ready, along with my mom’s people.
If Juancho plans to use Lorenzo’s rights as my mom’s husband, he still won’t succeed. Attorney Lu has already given us all of Mom’s wills and other documents proving that Lorenzo has no right to her properties.
I greatly admire my mom for managing to do all that. If she had been the leader of our organization, it would have been much larger and stronger by now. She was always prepared and thought ahead of everything. It’s like she had already seen this coming, so she did everything she could just to protect what was rightfully mine. Now, I understand everything she told me before she died.
It was Sunday, and we were having breakfast at the dining table when Alex received a call from his father. My husband babied me so much that he cared for everything I needed.
“Yes, Dad?” my husband answered. I watched him closely, noticing the frown on his face, followed by a look of surprise. I grew curious and wanted to ask him to put the call on loudspeaker, but I knew that wasn’t appropriate, so I just waited for him to finish. I knew Alex would tell me what his father said.
“Okay, Dad, I will do that. Bye.” Their conversation ended after a few minutes.
“What happened?” I asked when he suddenly sighed.
“Three of the board members Juancho sold shares to were found dead, and he asked me to go to the funeral.”
“What!!” I didn’t need to ask further because I already knew who was behind it, and I could tell Alex suspected the same thing. “You need to take care of yourself,” I told my husband worriedly.
He’s always out in public, and sometimes he doesn’t even take a driver with him, especially now that I’m pregnant, because he wants the driver to be available for me in an emergency.
“I’m always careful, honey. There’s nothing to worry about.”
“Don’t be too confident. Juancho will do anything to get to us. He knows now that I’m his uncle’s daughter, and he won’t stop until he’s certain he has all my mother’s properties.”
“And your father’s wealth, too.”
“What do you mean?”
“Later, someone will come here. He’s Selendro Madrid’s lawyer.” I was speechless at what Alex said. “Yes, honey. I also did my investigation because I wanted answers. Enzo and the others are too busy watching Juancho’s every move, so I decided to take action.”
“Hamilton is working on that too, and he just sent me his report yesterday,” I admitted.
“So, everything is clear now? You know who your real father is?” he asked. “And wait, why didn’t you tell me this yesterday?”
“Because I still can’t believe it. Do you know who Selendro Madrid is and how huge his assets are?”
“He’s in the business world but managed to stay low profile. But that doesn’t mean I can’t learn more about him.”
“So, you know?” I asked, and he nodded, which made me sigh in relief.
“That’s why you must be more careful; Juancho is really after you. As much as possible, don’t go out alone, and please don’t get mad-” I didn’t get a chance to speak. “I trust you, but I don’t trust Juancho at all. He doesn’t play fair.”
“I know that.”
“How?”
“Richard. He’s part of our family’s mortal enemy in Portico.”
“Shit! Does that mean he’s allied with them now?”
“Maybe, but it’s more likely they’re just using him.”
“What do you mean?”
“Our enemies in Portico are ruthless. They would never let just anyone into their group. Right now, Juancho is probably giving them a lot of money because they even gave him men and made them his assistant.”
“I think they know you’re not in Portico anymore and might take advantage of that to claim the region.” I couldn’t help but laugh at what he said.
“Do you think it’s easy for them to do that?”
“Isn’t it? You’re here, and so are your grandparents.”
“But Hamilton is there, and so are all our people.” He just looked at me, so I continued. “They are the best at what they do, and we all have the same goal-to protect the Portico region from abusive people or organizations.”
I smiled at my husband to reassure him. Another thing he didn’t know was that Nadine had already found the man who killed my mom. “Alex,” I called to him. “I’m going back to Portico.”
“What? Why? Did something happen?”
“Something like that.”
“What do you mean by something like that? Okay, you can go, but I’m coming with you.”
“There’s no need because I’m flying anyway.”
“No, you can’t leave without me. And you don’t have to take a plane because we have a helicopter. So, if you really need to go, we’re going together.”
“Alex, please…”
“Do you have something to do there that you don’t want me to know?”
“No, but your company-”
“Then it’s settled. Let me know when we’re leaving, and I’ll have the helicopter ready. It’s safer than a commercial plane if someone’s waiting for you there.”
“Alex-”
“Our discussion ends here, honey. It’s either we both go, or neither of us does.” I couldn’t do anything else because I knew he was important to me, and I had already accepted him as my head.
If anything, Alex’s presence might make me hesitate to do what I planned for the man who killed my mother. I just hope he doesn’t interfere because my anger towards that man is overwhelming right now.
I know I’ve told myself I’m slowly changing my ways, but this is different. The man stole my childhood when he took my mother’s life, and finally, I will know who ordered him to do it.
