“Come on, son, drink this milk first.” Jane gently placed the glass of milk in front of him, then leaned against the edge of the desk, lightly resting her hand on his shoulder. “Tom, you should take a look. She came here full of enthusiasm, and you don’t know anything about her. It seems very impolite.”
Her son was 35 years old, and she was quite anxious.
Tom Fritz looked up at his mother, who wore a gentle smile.
His mother was delighted. “Son, I’ve gone through this stack of information. The girl is truly exceptional. Despite her good family background, she’s not arrogant at all. She’s been independent since childhood, highly educated, and very attractive. Most importantly, she has a great personality. Even your grandmother likes her a lot.”
It was clear that the family liked Lisa very much, even though they had never met her.
But Tom Fritz had no interest at all. “Mom, I’ve always believed that love is the rarest encounter in this world. It’s not something you can arrange just because you think it’s suitable.”
“Tom, if Lisa is willing to be with you, she’s the one making a sacrifice.” Jane frowned. “Once you’re in the lab, you’ll hardly have any time for her. How can you say you’re making a sacrifice?”
“Then let’s not make that sacrifice.” Tom Fritz looked away, his attitude clear. “Mom, I don’t want to go against Grandma’s wishes. You should talk to her about this.”
“You…” Jane wore a purple dress; though middle-aged, she maintained her figure well.
Her son took a sip of milk from the cup.
The woman still leaned against his desk, one hand on his shoulder, observing his expression from this close distance before asking, “Tom, do you have a girlfriend?”
“No.” The man answered without thinking. “I’m not considering relationships right now; I just want to focus on my experiments.”
“Don’t be so sure. Lisa will soon return to Arkpool City with Grandma. No matter what, you should meet her first. What if she’s your type? You had a good impression of Monica after meeting her through an arranged date.”
“Will Grandma give us time to develop slowly?” He knew very well and looked up. “Grandma wants an engagement.”
“Then get engaged! We’ve already vetted her for you; she’s a good girl.”
“…”
Her son was at a loss for words.
The relationship between mother and son had become very tense recently because of this issue; they hardly confided in each other anymore.
“Alright, alright. Think about it some more.” Jane knew continuing the conversation wouldn’t help. She picked up the detailed information about Lisa from the table and shoved it into her son’s arms. “Take it! Just look at it for me, okay? This is Grandma’s task; you don’t want us to have conflicts between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, do you?”
Jane straightened up and said to her son again, “At least get a basic understanding of her to show some manners, alright? After all, you’re a professor; you can’t be too arrogant.”
After saying that, she glanced at her son again before turning to leave.
As soon as his mother left, Tom Fritz casually tossed the information back onto the table. He wouldn’t spend time on something he wasn’t interested in.
Being arrogant was better than wasting someone else’s time.
That night, in a small apartment.
After taking a bath, Agnes sat cross-legged on the bed with Bubu in her arms, absentmindedly stroking its back as her long hair fell down.
“Meow~”
The little creature occasionally looked up at her with soft eyes and greeted her gently before snuggling into her arms affectionately.
“Bubu…” She softly called out the kitten’s name.
