“Your so-called opportunity is to shoot two thugs?”
Enrico sneered, “Don’t even dream about it, Blanca. As long as I’m around, no one can hurt her. All these actions of yours only move you.”
“…”
Blanca was so stiff from being spoken to that she couldn’t even refute what she had been told.
Her daughter had already grown up, and her protection was insignificant.
“Don’t follow us anymore. If I find out again, I won’t show mercy to you or the Folsom family.”
Enrico gave his final order, stepped on the fireworks on the ground, and extinguished the last spark.
Blanca looked down.
Enrico turned around and reached out to open the car door.
“I know you’re going to the slums, let me go with you for the last time.”
Seeing that he was about to leave, Blanca couldn’t help but blurt out, “Don’t worry, I won’t let Paige find out, I just want to go see the place where she spent three years.”
That, the slums where Paige suffered for three whole years, she wanted to know what it really looked like.
Enrico turned his head and looked at her disdainfully.
“For the last time, I won’t follow you after I come back,” Blanca said.
“Why should I agree to that?” Enrico sneered.
“I am still Paige’s mother, and given your relationship with Paige, it would be strange if you really wanted to do something to me, right? The best way is to get rid of me.”
Blanca was an arms dealer and of course knew how to negotiate. She gave a bitter smile, “Besides, don’t you think letting me go to the slums is the greatest torture for me?”
“No,” Enrico said without hesitation.
“…”
“The greatest torture is to let you stay in the slums for three years and be with the Clarkes for eighteen years.”
Enrico watched her say each word, then lowered himself and got into the car.
Blanca was stunned.
Jaden got into the car right after her, sitting in the passenger seat. He looked back carefully in the rearview mirror and saw Enrico’s gloomy face.
After a while, Enrico made a decision.
“Mix her up in the group going to Wind Island, and have someone keep an eye on her, so Paige doesn’t find out.”
It wasn’t the worst kind of torture, but it was torture nonetheless.
He agreed.
“Yes,” Jaden nodded.
…
When Enrico returned to the hotel cafeteria, Paige and Carrie were chatting about the next few moves.
The long table, like a conference table, was covered with a white tablecloth, and the cutlery was shiny and new. Paige and Carrie sat next to each other, with Nick not too far away.
Rafael carried a tray and sat across from them, as if dividing a galaxy.
At the door, Enrico walked in.
Rafael turned his head and saw Enrico’s half-paralyzed arm, and his breakfast almost flew out of his mouth.
“How can someone who is still mobile after being shot tie himself up like this? Since when has he become so attached to his life?”
Rafael wiped his hands on a towel and said after taking a sip of milk to calm down.
“…”
Jaden, who was following Enrico, glanced at Rafael. Fortunately, he was not the only one who felt that Enrico was wrong this morning.
“You don’t understand,” Enrico ignored him and walked behind Paige, coldly looking at Carrie and Nick.
“Brother-in-law,”
Carrie and Nick called out, picked up their plates, stood up, and vacated the seats next to Paige.
Paige got up, picked up her tray, walked to the buffet, and picked up a few dishes, placing them in front of Enrico.
Enrico hung his good arm over the side, sat lazily, and didn’t even lift a finger as Paige began to feed him dish after dish, making sure to let him have a sip of milk so that he wouldn’t get too dry.
“…”
Carrie and Nick sat together, silently watching this scene, grabbing the bread themselves, not knowing how to eat it.
“…”
Rafael also had a hard time eating, I’m afraid both his hands are broken, right?
Okay.
He doesn’t understand.
Paige knows what everyone is thinking, but she promised to wait on Enrico, and even if the scene looks even more wrong, she will persist, as long as this young master can quietly recover and get better as soon as possible.
Enrico enjoyed her service and reached out to take out his phone to check the report on the affairs of the consortium that Jaden had sent him.
Paige peeled a shrimp and fed it to Enrico’s mouth. Enrico looked down and ate it while checking his phone.
At the end of the breakfast, Paige wiped her hands with a hot towel, picked up the milk glass in front of her, stood up, and looked at Rafael across the table, “President, I toast you with milk instead of wine.”
Rafael looked at her and wondered if she was doing this on purpose, “For the five blank sheets of paper?”
“No, Enrico and I will be leaving after this breakfast to go to Wind Island. Nick and Carrie will stay behind to support your work. They are inexperienced, so I hope the President will look after them.” Paige’s voice was light, and her expression was serious.
Upon hearing this, Rafael’s expression also became serious. He lifted up his milk glass and stood up, asking, “You’re leaving already?”
So this breakfast today is a farewell meal.
“It’s already been dragging on for so long, and if it drags on any longer, I’m afraid those plutocrats will start thinking again,” Paige said lightly, her gaze deepening, ‘Besides, I’ve been waiting for this day for many years.”
She could finally take everyone from the slums with her.
“Paige, why don’t I go with you?’ Nick stood up and said.
“I’m familiar with Wind Island, it’s not dangerous. The election is the top priority right now, and Carrie has become the First Lady again, she can’t be left alone.”
Paige looked at Rafael with her cup in hand and said, “President, I would like to wish you success in your re-election here in advance.”
After saying that, she looked down at Enrico, who was still looking at his phone.
After receiving the signal, Enrico stood up, picked up the milk glass in front of him, and looked at Rafael with a serious expression in his eyes, ‘If it doesn’t work out, give me back all the money I spent.”
“…”
Can you be a human being?
Rafael pretended not to hear, looked left and right, and said, ‘Let’s have a short get-together today and have a toast together.”
Hearing this, Carrie and Nick raised their milk glasses and leaned over, as did Jaden and the old butler.
Rafael looked at these faces and couldn’t help but feel a little emotional. “Whether it’s the election or the slum reconstruction, for us it’s all a last battle. Once we miss this opportunity, we won’t know when the next one will be. I hope we can all win.”
“Then I wish us all the best in our respective endeavors!” Paige raised her glass in the air.
“Best of luck to each of us!”
“Let’s meet again in the future!”
Everyone responded.
Several glasses clinked together, producing a very clear sound.
…
Sunlight shone on the sea, shimmering in broken rays.
The huge cruise ship docked on the shore on time, and Paige half-held onto Enrico’s arm as they boarded the ship, the morning sun shining on them.
The ship slowly started up and sailed off into the distance.
Paige stood on the deck, watching Rafael, Carrie, Jaden, Nick and the others wave goodbye as they grew further and further away, until they were no longer visible.
She turned around, leaned against the railing, and looked up at the endless sky.
After three years, she was finally able to go to Wind Island.
I wonder how everyone is doing? I wonder how many people have survived…
Paige listened to the sound of the cruise ship sailing, and her heart beat inexplicably faster.
