Paige watched as the guards rushed in to stop them, but it was useless. She didn’t know who fired the shot, and suddenly the scene became even more chaotic.
Some people were running, some were screaming, some were crying, and some were trampled on the ground.
Someone ran into them, causing the car to shake. Enrico leaned over her and swayed a few times.
Paige hurriedly went to look at him and asked worriedly, “Are you okay?”
“Not really,” Enrico said, his eyes drooping slightly, his brows knitted, his face seeming to turn even paler as he reached up to press his hand against his shoulder.
“Don’t touch it,” Paige quickly stopped him.
The car shook twice again, and she hurriedly embraced the man at her side, leaning back against the backrest behind her, so that Enrico fell backwards onto her.
Her arms were always protecting him.
Enrico could still hold himself up, but after she hugged him like this, he completely collapsed and leaned against her chest.
He moved a little, his head tilting slightly downward, resting comfortably in the position he had longed for.
This was much more comfortable than lying on the bed at the hotel.
He pushed his tongue against his cheek, a wicked gleam in his eyes, but his voice was weak as he said, “Hug me tighter, my shoulder hurts when I move it.”
“Okay.” Paige didn’t doubt for a second, and wrapped her arm around him firmly with one hand, her fingers gripping his solid arm to keep it from moving with the vibrations of the car and pulling at the broken area.
While hugging him, she looked out the window at the scene outside, reached out and took Enrico’s phone out, and dialed Nick’s number.
She entered Nick’s phone number.
Enrico was feeling comfortable, and when he glanced down, his eyes suddenly grew cold.
“Hey, Nick, it’s me,” Paige said.
Nick was also at the lecture venue, and the background noise was very chaotic. He was stunned and shouted out in shock, ‘Paige? Where are you?”
“I’m in Plaza D. Something’s happened here. Send someone over to fix it,’ Paige said calmly.
“Got it,” Nick answered, and hung up the phone decisively.
Paige put the phone down and immediately heard the cold voice of the man, “You remember the phone numbers of your subordinates?”
“I can remember everyone’s phone number as long as I’ve seen it,” Paige said without thinking.
“…”
Oh, I forgot, she has a photographic memory.
Enrico was not embarrassed by this response and said very frankly, “Then don’t remember it in the future.”
What are you remembering.
“…”
Paige shook her head helplessly. Just as she was saying this, a few men rushed over and attacked the men with the sticks. They were Enrico’s bodyguards.
The bodyguards pushed aside the people next to them, stood outside the car door, and were ready to protect them as they got out and left.
It was indeed impossible to stay in the car.
“Let’s go,” Paige immediately decided and pushed open the car door.
“Mr. Gustin, young lady, the car can’t go, we will escort you to a safe place first,” the bodyguards said.
“Hm,” Paige bent down and got out of the car first, and turned to pick up Enrico.
Enrico lowered himself, his face white as he walked down the steps. He kept rising, his frame suddenly towering.
Paige reached out to help him put on his overcoat, and took his arm as they walked out under the escort of the bodyguards.
Enrico saw how cautious she was, and raised the corner of his lips without saying anything, happy to be served in this way by her.
The chaos at the scene continued to grow.
“Bang.” A crisp sound.
A street lamp nearby was broken, and the glass shattered and fell.
Underneath the street lamp, a little girl about five years old was crying and looking at everything in front of her in fear.
Paige’s expression changed, and without any hesitation, she let go of Enrico and rushed over, picking up the girl and quickly darting to the side.
“…” Enrico stood there looking at her, a trace of tension crossing his face.
She saw debris falling all over the floor, and some splashing onto her. She was still wearing quite thick clothes, so her clothes didn’t get torn.
Some thugs saw Paige nearby and rushed up to her, swinging their sticks.
Paige held the little girl in her arms and dodged sideways. A tall figure flashed in front of her eyes, and Enrico blocked her way, raising his leg viciously and kicking with all his strength.
His shoulders shook twice. The bodyguards rushed over to protect them.
“Are you okay?” Paige looked at him nervously.
Enrico glanced at her and didn’t answer, just said, ‘Let’s go.”
The situation was chaotic.
The guards who had arrived had all been knocked out.
Paige picked up the little girl and was about to follow him, but the little girl was so scared that she struggled desperately, crying and slapping her shoulders, ‘Put me down! I want my mommy! I want my mommy!”
The cries of distress around them were deafening.
The bodyguard pushed the people around him aside and forced his way out of the crowd to make some space for them to go.
Another person rushed up, and the bodyguard was knocked two steps forward, and then into Paige. Paige swayed and hurriedly held the girl in her arms firmly.
You really want to die.
Enrico watched, and irritably pulled out his gun and rushed towards the thug.
“Bang.”
A gunshot rang out, and the thug was shot in the middle of his brow, falling straight down with his eyes wide open.
It wasn’t Enrico who fired the shot.
It was faster than Enrico.
The two of them looked forward at the same time, and the crowd was in chaos, everyone panicking.
Paige only saw a familiar but indistinct figure leave from behind the crowd, the corners of the overcoat flipping in the wind, quickly disappearing.
Was it her?
Her gaze froze.
“Get out of here.” Enrico’s face grew colder and colder, reaching out to embrace Paige and striding forward.
Without them having to do anything, the thugs around them were killed one after the other. Anyone who pounced on them fell down and couldn’t even take a single step towards them.
While there was still chaos in the outer areas, no one dared to approach them.
After a while, Nick finally arrived with a large number of subordinates, and cooperated with the guards to start capturing the thugs and take them down one by one.
The riot finally came to an end.
Paige handed the girl in her arms to the bodyguard and asked him to take the child to find her family.
She then helped Enrico, walked past the crowd on the ground and walked out of this chaotic place.
“Sister Paige! Brother-in-law!”
Nick finished dealing with a rioter and rushed towards Paige and the others. Seeing the two of them, he couldn’t help but be excited and panted, “Sister Paige, you’re finally back.”
“Where are Rafael and Carrie?” Paige asked.
“They have already been escorted away by Jaden’s people.”
Nick looked at Paige and frowned when he saw that she didn’t look well and that her hands were wrapped in gauze, as if she had been injured.
“This isn’t the place to talk. Let’s find a hotel,” Paige said.
…
The upper floors of a local luxury hotel were brightly lit. The lobby was surrounded by greenery and had a clear koi pond in the centre.
Rafael sat on a leather sofa with a curved design, his suit laid aside. Leaning forward, he slowly wiped his glasses with a glasses cloth. His face was grave and displeased.
Jaden and the old butler stood silently by.
Carrie, dressed in a long skirt, walked back and forth next to them, her other hand supporting her wrist.
