Third Person
“This can’t be happening!” Lorenzo shouted angrily after losing the case against his brother, Rafael. He couldn’t believe that their family business was truly gone and that his brother’s wife had bought it. That’s how the two met and eventually got married.
“So, you wasted money fighting for your father’s business!” Daisy paced back and forth before Lorenzo, her hands on her hips. “You really are a big fool!” she yelled.
“Shut up, Daisy! You’ve done nothing for this family except spend money, so keep your mouth shut!” Lorenzo yelled. He was angry about losing, and his lover nagging at him didn’t help at all.
“If only you had asked Mr. Richard, he could’ve given you good advice. You know you’re useless in business, yet you decided to act independently.” Daisy continues with big eyes.
Old Dylan, sitting silently, couldn’t hold back anymore. He stood up and slapped Daisy hard across the face. Her eyes blazed with fury as she glared at him, clutching her stinging cheek.
“How dare you!” Daisy shouted and returned the slap to Lorenzo, surprising him. He never expected her to hit him back. Throughout their relationship, she had never even raised her voice. “I’ve been with you through everything, and now you hit me like I’m nothing? I was there when your father disowned you when you had nowhere to go!”
“That’s because you’re going too far! Your mouth is driving me crazy! What do you mean I’m useless at business? Isn’t Serendipity doing well even without Marissa?”
“You know very well it’s the employees keeping it running. Do you still believe you’re the reason for the company’s success? Haven’t you realized yet that before your wife died, she left trusted people to watch over the company because she knew it would fall apart if she left everything to you?”
Lorenzo stayed quiet, thinking deeply about what Daisy said. “I’m sure she knew about us from the beginning, so she put clauses like that in her will. And here you are, feeling confident like you’ve done something great!” the old woman continued. Even if she was mad at old man Dylan, she still loved him and couldn’t blame him either.
“That woman, Marissa!” Lorenzo spat, sitting down again, forgetting all about their fight as Daisy’s words sank in.
“That’s why we need to get Serene out of the company! She and her mother are the root of all our bad luck now.” Daisy sat on the couch before Lorenzo, both fuming and more determined than ever to take back the company.
“Mr. Richard called. He said he’s meeting with the McGregor Group’s board. Do you think it will be successful?” Lorenzo asked out of nowhere.
“That man is smart and cunning, especially the boss he always talks about. If they managed to get shares in McGregor’s company, I’m sure they have a big chance of succeeding in whatever they plan.” Daisy commented seriously as if thinking about it.
Lorenzo nodded in agreement. He believed the same. They knew Alexander McGregor as a shrewd businessman. Since Richard had obtained shares in his company, the old couple believed Richard’s boss was powerful and influential.
With that, they agreed to wait and see what Richard’s next move would be and ready themselves in case their ally needed them.
Meanwhile, at Alex’s office, the board had called for a meeting, which was not surprising to him; he was actually waiting for it.
“The meeting will start after lunch,” Von said, catching his breath. He had just returned from one of the company’s plants after checking something for his boss, and he’d barely arrived at the building when he got a message from the secretary about the board meeting.
“So, it has begun,” Alex muttered, nodding before leaning back in his office chair and looking at Von.
“Yes, Sir. And I want to warn you, I didn’t expect many board members to sell their shares.”
“Don’t worry, no matter how much they gain, nothing will come of it,” Alex replied confidently, and Von nodded in agreement. He knew how sharp and clever his boss was regarding business and money, so he trusted Alex was prepared for anything.
“What if they’re doing the same thing at Serendipity right now?” Von asked. Alex suddenly paused in thought. He knew Serene was at home, designing from there because of her condition.
“I think Patt and the others will be able to handle it,” Alex responded confidently.
“Is he that good?” Von asked again, causing Alex to raise an eyebrow. “Well, we know where they come from and what they truly do. I’m just worried they might not be able to handle it.”
“Don’t worry. Patt is very humble when it comes to running the company. He knows when to ask for help, so my wife trusts him enough to let him run Serendipity,” Alex explained. He understood his assistant’s concern and believed in his wife’s judgment. If Serene trusted Patt, then so did he, and he wouldn’t let himself worry.
“If that’s the case, Sir, you can focus fully on the board meeting later,” Von said.
“Have you prepared everything I asked you to?” Alex asked.
“Of course, Sir. I finished everything last night, and here it is.” Von handed over a folder containing all the documents his boss needed.
“Okay, I’ll study this, and just remind me when it’s time.” Von nodded and left the office as Alex reviewed everything his assistant had prepared.
Hours passed, and lunchtime arrived. Von brought Alex’s lunch to his office, where he ate while continuing to go over the documents.
“We’re ready, Sir,” Von said, peeking into the office. Alex stood up from his chair and walked out with Von, heading to the conference room where the board was waiting.
As they entered the room, the board members greeted Alex, standing in respect except for those he already knew were against him, particularly Richard, who was sitting next to someone, grinning smugly. Alex chuckled internally when he saw Juancho Madrid sitting beside him.
