LUKE
Watching him kiss her is gutting me. William and I have both been trying to stall for time. William made sure to be in contact with his partner Dex. William was on the phone the entire time with Dex. Dex had the location of William’s phone set to his this entire time. Now we are just waiting for the calvary to arrive. When she arrived I started working on a plan. William quickly caught on. The more pissed off Sydney is, the longer he is going to stick around. He may even try to fight one or both of us. It depends on how pissed we can get him.
I want to lunge at him and get him as far away from her as possible, but we are seriously outnumbered. Not to mention we are tied up. Our ankles are tied together and our hands are tied behind our backs. There is no way I am winning a fight right now. Our only hope is to get them wrapped up before they try to take off.
As soon as his lips are off of her I set on him again. “I’m pretty sure I got a better reaction out of her. I mean she practically salivated when I kissed her. But maybe your game is just no match for mine.”
He pushed her back. “You really think that you have something special with her. She is my wife. She came back to me. She wants me. She is leaving your ass.”
I cock my head. “I mean, is she really? It kind of looks like you forced her to be here.”
I see his fists clenched and I am debating on if I went too far. I am still tied up.
Thankfully before he can make the first swing the cavalry arrives. Cop cars shoot up the dirt road spraying gravel as they put on the breaks. Getting out of their cars they take cover behind their doors. Voices start calling out, asking for them to put their hands on their heads. Most of the men comply, all except Sydney. He grabs Jessica and starts using her for a shield. I didn’t see where the knife came from, but it was at her throat before we could make a move.
William and I are pretty flexible, which works in our favor in this instance. We both manage with effort to get to our feet. Not that we can run or walk, but we can jump. Sydney has his back to us. Jessica might get hurt, that is our only hesitation. Sydney starts waving around his knife. “All of you back off. I am bringing my wife home. I haven’t done anything wrong.”
William and I nod to each other seeing our opening. Both of us leaping forward we bring them both down. We are a tangle of limbs and several of the officers rush towards us, the others holding off the other men around us. Sydney still has the knife, but Jessica manages to get free. It isn’t until Sydney has a gun in his face that he stops fighting.
Dex grins. “You are under arrest for the unlawful imprisonment of an officer. Kidnapping and a whole other list of charges that I am only getting started on.”
Thankfully another officer comes up and cuts William’s binds and he quickly does the same to mine. I reach for Jessica to pull her into my arms. She is crying. I can’t imagine that this has been easy for her. I don’t think it is because Sydney has been brought in. I am sure she is just relieved and is expressing it the only way that she knows how.
Sniffling, she looks up at me. “Why were you saying all that stuff? Most of it was a lie.”
I shake my head. “It was all lies. I don’t think that stuff about you. William and I were just trying to buy time. We knew Dex and the rest of the squad were coming. We had a plan. I told you I would be safe. If you would have just listened to me, you would have not been involved at all.”
Nodding, she looks down. “I’m sorry for doubting you.”
“Hey, I get it. You were trying to save me. Let’s just not do that again, okay.”
She doesn’t really answer me but cries into my shirt. I hold her as close as I can, praying that she doesn’t leave now. That I can earn her love and affection. That she gives me a chance.
