Lily’s POV
“Oh nice. Congratula…. Congratulaaa..” He coughed hysterically. “Congratulations Lily. I’m happy for you.” He said in a stiff tone.
He certainly must be so happy for me. I could see the happiness dancing in his eyes.
Whether it was sadness or anger I saw initially in his eyes was not truly a debate right not because I chose to see happiness and that was what I was going to believe. I’m refuse to believe that he was not happy for me about such news.
“Thank you.” I responded tight lipped. The atmosphere was very tense so I did not know the exact way to act.
“Yeah, so uhm. How far are you gone?”. He asked with his hands in his pockets. The cheerful and calm expression he had on his face before now was long gone and replaced with a cold and expressionless face. It was beginning to get scary the way he looked at me with cold and empty eyes.
“Just a few months. I’m not even showing yet right?”. I asked with a giggle.
“Yeah, I couldn’t even tell.” He responded.
“Yeah, so uhm… are you leaving or?”. I asked cautiously.
“If you want me to leave, that’s fine.” He said and picked up his cart.
“Oh no, you can stay and help if you want. If you don’t mind.” I rushed out. Initially I wanted him to leave but now that he’s already looking like he saw a ghost or something and has a long face on, I did not have it in me to send him away.
“I could really go if you want. You don’t have to say that.” He pressed and began walking towards the counter.
“No, it’s fine. I would need your help and your company too.” I ran past him and blocked him, thereby halting his movement.
He stood for a while, just staring back at me, like he was guaging my words to see if I was sincere. I didn’t try to mask my true emotions or try to fake any Ritter. I simply stared at him wearing my true feelings at my sleeves.
“Alright, Lily. So where do we begin.” He sighed and turned around, walking towards the new born section.
“I’m not even sure myself.” I sighed and joined him.
We moved around putting different things into my cart, laughing and basically enjoying the whole process, or maybe I should speak for myself but he seemed a bit more relaxed.
“That’s all you’re getting right?”. He asked.
“Yeah, I guess for now.” We had been shopping for hours and I had a truck load of things already. I was tired and so was he.
“Alright let’s get these to the counter. Let me help you.” He took almost everything from me and led me to the counter.
“What is it?!!”. I squealed when he had abruptly stopped and I bumped into him.
“Uhm, Nothing. Sorry.” He rushed out but I could see through him.
“What is it Martin?”. I asked firmly.
“well, the thing is…” He got silent for a while and then sighed before speaking up again. “Can I ask you something?”. He dropped the things he was holding on the ground and folded his hands.
“Yeah, sure. Go on.” I responded and flashed him a curious look.
“Don’t take this the wrong way.” He pressed again and now he was making me anxious and I hated it.
“Just say it already. I can’t take the suspense.” I screamed out exhausted.
“Okay okay, you’re just so funny”. He chuckled.
“So?”. I asked with raised brows.
“Are you happy?.” He asked quietly and immediately I stilled. That was the last thing I expected to hear from him. Why would he ask me that. What was it to him if I was happy or not. Did he really care enough to know. No one had ever asked how I felt about all of these. “Are you really happy about all of these?”. He asked again as he stared deeply into my soul.
“I don’t know what to say.” I answered truthfully.
“You don’t have to say much. Just tell me exactly how you feel.” He moved closer to me and held my hands.
“Well”. I started and paused. He noticed my hesitation and rubbed my hands softly to reassure me. Martin was truly a great guy. He was really nice. He seemed like someone that I might have liked in the past because he was really sweet. He seemed like the kind of guy that would treat you like a queen and be soft and kind with you.
He seemed like a very romantic guy. A guy that would buy your favorite flowers at random and get you ‘just because’ gifts. He seemed like the kind of guy that would worship the ground you walked on and if you dared asked for the moon, he would go through the ends of the earth to give it to you.
His kind of love seemed like a pure, genuine and healthy love. But I’m afraid he wasn’t my type. He wasn’t what I wanted. I did not like nice and all sweet. I loved all the romantic things but I needed someone to keep me on my toes. I wanted someone who would give me the entire world but wouldn’t hesitate to put me in my place. I guess I was drawn to drawn to a little bit of toxicity.
“Please go on”. He urged me after I had been silent for a while.
“I’m truly happy about having this baby”. I looked down at my stomach and withdrew my hands from him and rubbed it tenderly. Whenever I thought of my baby, everything just made sense.
“That’s good.” He flashed me a small smile. “But what about the circumstances surrounding this child?”. He dropped another tribal question.
“What’s with all these questions. Am I being filmed?.” I laughed and playfully looked around for some hidden cameras. I was trying to play my way out of the situation. “Ha ha, you can bring out the cameras now.”
“Lily please don’t do this. If you don’t want to answer the question then I would not pressure you. All you have to do is say the word.” He said firmly not buying my antics.
“Alright No. I don’t want to answer that question.” I responded firmly.
“Good. Let’s just go.” He sighed and replied before he began picking up the things.
“Are you serious?”. I waved my hands in the air as I asked in shock.
“What do you mean?.” He replied calmly. It was really getting on my nerves on how calm he was.
“You’re just going to drop the issue, you’re not going to try to cajole me to say it?”. I asked while waving my hands frantically.
“Yeah. I respect your decision.” He said again in another calm tone.
“What?.” I gasped. This is just part twenty one on why I can’t be with someone like this. What does he mean by he respects my decision. What if I didn’t mean that, was he just going to drop it?. Doesn’t that mean that he wasn’t truly invested in knowing the truth. Please tell me that this is how everyone thinks and I’m not just crazy.
I wasn’t used to being treated like this. I knew it was bad but that’s all I’ve ever known. Alex would have tried to convince me to provide an answer or even commanded me to or else he would’ve sparked me until I provided an answer.
Just thinking about that now just made me soil my panties.
“I’m not going to force you to do anything that you don’t want to do or say anything also.” He explained like it was common knowledge.
“Alright fine.” I rolled my eyes. I guess I’m just going to believe that he wasn’t so invested in getting the gist.
I sashayed to the counter and I could hear him chuckle behind me.
We loaded up everything I was getting and his separately and it was time to pay. I brought out my purse to get my card when his hands stopped me.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got it.” He spoke firmly as he reached into his pocket. Was it just me did he become more handsome and sexy by just performing such a little act.
I smiled and retracted my hand from my purse.
“Don’t you even dare!!.” A deep baritone tone that made my heart skip three beats at once and made my vagina tingle and lakes broke loose, boomed through walls, stopping Martin mid way and seizing the air in the room.
What was it and all these men and interrupting the activities of my day. A girl just wants to have a good time.
