Paige parked the car on a quiet, unpopulated road, walked to the back, lifted the suitcase and placed it on the table, opened it, and then pressed the button on the wall.
A hidden panel slowly lowered.
She took out the rifles, sniper rifles, and submachine guns that had been prepared in the suitcase early in the morning, checked them into the wall panel, and then loaded a small silver pistol into the holster and attached it to her thigh.
After doing so, Paige closed the suitcase and placed it in the bottom compartment. Turning around, she pulled down the curtain, and a rectangular window pane appeared in front of her, clean and transparent.
Outside the car window, the snow kept falling, mountains and trees were invisible, and everything was covered in white snow.
It was as if they had entered a world of snow.
Paige watched in silence, and then opened the smart panel on the wall next to her to connect to the internet.
She clicked on the news from Country A. In the news video, there was a major traffic jam in The Capital. As far as the eye could see, the cars were all stopped on the road, their headlights flashing, and the horns blaring incessantly.
The Capital was in complete chaos. All the major roads out were blocked, planes could not take off, ships could not sail, and there were roadblocks at every entrance. The cars had to be thoroughly searched, even the undersides of the seats were checked repeatedly.
The explanation given was that they were arresting an international criminal, but even so, the online outrage continued.
The lonely figure in the car was reflected in the snowlight, sitting there all alone.
Enrico, are you okay?
Paige sat there quietly watching for a while, when her new phone vibrated. She picked it up, and it was a call from Beatrice.
“That little girl is something, my people couldn’t find you,” Beatrice said on the other end of the line.
“Mr. Beinice, have you seen the news on The Capital?” Paige did not accept his admiration and only asked indifferently in return.
“Yes, Miss Paige kept her promise and didn’t tell anyone. I think Enrico didn’t let you down either. You came to Germany for him alone, and he sealed the whole The Capital for you. He really values you, and this feeling moves me!” Beinice said.
“Isn’t this just what the Folsom family wants?”
Paige said coldly. The more Enrico messed things up for her, the happier the Folsom family would be, and the more opportunities they would have to do something about it.
Beinice laughed on the other end, “Okay, where are you now? I’ll arrange for someone to pick you up. The old man misses you too.”
“Give me an address, I’ll come myself,” Paige said.
“Are you afraid that I’ll kill you? As long as you’re in Germany, I’ll always find you, so there’s no use being afraid,” Beinice said.
“Since you’re so confident, I should be fine coming on my own, shouldn’t I?” Paige said coldly.
“…”
Beinice paused at what she said.
“I can go to your Folsom family’s territory, but the conversation can only take place in a place I designate,” Paige said, holding the phone. “I can’t joke with my life.”
“Miss Paige, you should understand that we only want to keep you as a guest in Country D for a while. Once the situation in Country A settles down, I won’t let you leave, and my father won’t allow it,” Beinice said.
She was quite cautious.
“Wasn’t it your father who lied to me the most?” Paige said mockingly.
“…”
Beinice was silent over there, and it was only after a while that she said, “Okay, I’ll continue to give you the address. You come all the way here. As I said, don’t contact your country. I will pay close attention to the situation in The Capital at all times. Once it doesn’t develop in the direction I want, I will destroy the absolute letter.”
It was always the same sentence back and forth.
After Paige received the address for the next stop, she didn’t waste any time and went directly to the driver’s seat.
She looked at the oversized steering wheel in front of her, and at the white road ahead, her slowly biting her bottom lip.
She took a soft red ribbon out of her pocket.
When she left, she wanted to bring a lot of things, but she was destined not to bring any of them, so she took this red ribbon.
It was Enrico who blindfolded her, and the red ribbon that wrapped around the ring fingers of the two of them.
Paige sat in the driver’s seat and tied the red ribbon in her hand to the steering wheel, tying a knot, and the ribbon hung down softly.
She rested her hands on the steering wheel, her fingertips gently stroking the ribbon on it, her long eyelashes slightly drooping.
Enrico, she’s come to D-Country.
Regardless of whether the Folsom family’s actions were a conspiracy or a plot, she had to come on this trip. She couldn’t bear to watch him die in front of her.
Even if there was only a glimmer of hope, she had to give it a go.
But she is not giving up on the slums.
She is taking a gamble.
She is betting that Enrico understands her, that Temple in Heaven understands her, and that they can definitely hold The Capital together until she returns with the divorce papers.
Paige’s gaze returns from the red ribbon, starts the RV, presses down on the accelerator, and drives on the vast snow-covered road, having experienced countless hardships along the way.
…
Country A, The Gustin family’s villa.
The night is thick.
The silent study is filled with smoke, and the ashtray on the desk is full of cigarette butts. A slender hand leans over, knocking the smoke around, and the fine ash slowly settles.
It looks like a light dusting of snow.
Enrico sits at the desk, staring for a while, then bites his thin lips back together, and closes the last page of Annie’s diary.
There is nothing.
He reaches for the drawer next to him.
The drawer was locked.
He pulled hard a few times, but it didn’t open.
Enrico was getting a little annoyed.
On the floor in front of the desk, Butler Beau, Jaden, and Dr. Clinton were going through Mrs. Annie’s belongings, looking for clues.
The three of them were very careful, just buried their heads and looked for something, although they didn’t know what to look for.
The sound of the chair legs rubbing against the floor suddenly sounded.
The three of them were startled. Enrico stood up from the desk and walked behind them.
“…”
The three of them didn’t even dare to lift their heads.
Enrico gave them a gloomy look, pulled Jaden up from the ground, and pulled out a pistol from his waist.
Seeing this, Dr. Clinton was scared and pale.
Enrico turned with the gun, walked straight to the desk, bit on a cigarette, and shot it in the drawer.
Dr. Clinton let out a sigh of relief.
“Bang.” The sound of the gunshot was deafening.
The three of them heard their shoulders tremble and looked at each other. It was just one drawer, there was no need to waste a bullet.
Enrico rested the gun on the table and pulled open the drawer.
It was so tightly hidden, but inside was just a stack of paper, his hand-drawn sketches of the shape of the sports car he designed, and a bunch of red ribbons.
The ribbons on those gift boxes had been collected by her.
Enrico watched, and the blue smoke confused his eyes.
After a while, he sat back down at the desk and took the pile of red ribbons out of the drawer and threw them on the desk.
So, she still treasures the gifts he gave her?
Enrico chewed on his cigarette as he felt the pile of red ribbons. The soft texture wrapped around his fingers, and before he could feel the warmth, they slipped away.
If she treasures them, how dare she-
Enrico’s five knuckles tightened around the pile of ribbons, and a fierce gleam flashed in his eyes.
As if remembering something, Enrico lowered his body and picked up a small figurine of a scale from the drawer. The two ends of the scale swayed back and forth, as if making the hardest choice in the world.
He looked at it, as if lightning had flashed before his eyes, and suddenly he understood everything.
At the same time, his face was as bad as it could get.
