“I understand,” Agnes said as she sat down in the chair and picked up her chopsticks. “I won’t get married so early, you can rest assured.”
“Do you want to be left on the shelf? You could start looking.”
“Not really,” the young girl had her own ideas. “I need to become excellent first, then enter an excellent circle, and attract excellent people, right?”
Her parents thought this made sense, but they also believed that focusing solely on a career wasn’t ideal, as a girl’s age is also a factor in a good marriage.
As the family ate dinner, her father changed the topic. “How’s work going lately? They say young people face a lot of pressure, especially in big companies.”
“It’s going well. Both the workload and salary are satisfactory,” Agnes replied. “My job doesn’t involve risks, so there’s no pressure. I also have time for my own creations. I might publish a comic book by the end of the year.”
“Congratulations in advance,” Mr. Campbell said proudly. His daughter had a talent for drawing.
“Thank you, Dad.”
After dinner, Agnes left the flower shop around seven in the evening. She thought it was still early.
She was the kind of person who liked to resolve issues immediately and didn’t want to leave problems overnight. Finishing today’s tasks today would let her sleep well.
So, on her way back to the city by taxi, Agnes called Andrew.
At that moment, Andrew was in the president’s office at Marsh Group. He had just tidied up his desk and was about to leave.
Seeing Agnes’s name on his phone screen made his heart race. Was she calling him?
Andrew was surprised but very happy as he answered, “Hello, Bubu.”
“Are you off work?” The girl’s pleasant voice came through softly.
“I’m about to leave. What about you?”
“Can I take up half an hour of your time?” she asked. “I want to… invite you for a coffee and chat.”
Andrew hadn’t expected this! He was thrilled and very willing!
But in those two seconds of excitement, Agnes wondered if she had been too abrupt or made things difficult for him.
She quickly explained, “I wanted to thank you for the canned food you gave me. It’s only fair to reciprocate. If you’re busy or it’s inconvenient, that’s okay too.”
“No, no, I have time. Where are you?”
Agnes gave him an address, and Andrew said, “Okay, see you soon.”
The girl hung up the phone.
The taxi was already heading back to the city towards the coffee shop…
Agnes suddenly realized her mistake of using Andrew as a shield, which led to such a big misunderstanding.
It wasn’t fair to Andrew; she felt sorry and worried he might misunderstand someday.
Maybe he liked her a little?
Otherwise, why would he make canned food for her?
Or maybe she was overthinking it; perhaps he just made extra because he liked it himself?
In any case, Agnes felt it was necessary to clarify things about their feelings and apologize.
As Andrew walked out of the company lobby, Elisa saw him. She was about to greet him but noticed he didn’t see her as he walked quickly.
Elisa noticed his face radiated joy and happiness.
He looked different from any other time she’d seen him before.
He hurried out of the glass doors and down the steps with an excited demeanor like he was going on a date.
Elisa watched him get into his car and quickly reacted by hailing a taxi herself. “Please follow that car in front. Thank you.”
