Nicholas POV
“This has to be a dream” I muttered under my breath, staring at the judge in disbelief.
“They can’t be possible your honor. I think you’re not reading it well perhaps someone else should take a look at those results” Ethan’s sharp voice roared in the room, a mix of shock and fury contorting his features.
“Are you insinuating that I’m blind Mr Ethan? ” the judge asked, staring at Ethan who avoided his eyes and stared at his feet.
“I’m sorry about my client’s behavior, your honor” Lukas quickly bowed his head respectfully to the judge as he apologized.
“This was the reason I requested that the result be sealed from the hospital. I was trying to avoid a situation whereby someone would accuse me of being bribed or unfair” the judge uttered with a low, trembling growl not happy with Ethan’s use of words
“Once again your honor I’m sorry” Lukas apologized but the judge had a deep frown on his face that indicated that he wasn’t appeased yet.
“According to the result in my hands, Mason Sterling and Macy Sterling are the biological children of Nicholas Sterling and are not in any way related to Ethan Knight by blood therefore Ethan Knight’s appeal for custody over Mason and Macy has been denied. This is my judgment” the judge said, rising to his feet abruptly
“Court rise”
Everyone rose to their feet as they watched the judge walk through the door. The moment the judge walked past the door, I could see Ethan’s hands tight in a fist, trembling by his side.
“Mr Ethan please calm down,” Lukas said, trying to calm Ethan who was very displeased with what just happened.
“You tell me to calm down. I just lost this case and you want me to be calm about it” Ethan yelled, drawing everyone’s attention to himself.
“Does this mean we won?” Monica asked, her voice trembling as etas gathered in her eyes.
“I can’t explain what just happened honey but I think we did. We won baby” I uttered, blinking my eyes rapidly so the tears in my eyes don’t fall.
“This has to be a dream, Nicholas. How is this even possible?” Monica said, crashing on her seat as the tears that had previously gathered in her eyes began to spill.
I sat beside her and leaned forward as I wrapped my arms tightly around her, pulling her close with a firm, warm, and comforting grip.
“Don’t cry honey” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
We sat still on the hard wooden bench, her sobs slowly dying down as she stared at me. Her blue teary eyes held nothing but happiness and relief
“Nicholas you have to come outside now,” Anthony said, his voice laced with urgency.
“What the problem Anthony?” I asked, my heart racing in fear at his sudden barging in our moment.
Monica used the back of her hand and wiped the tears that spilled on her cheeks “Is everything okay Anthony?”Monica asked, her voice laced with worry.
BACK TO THE CURRENT DAY
AT NICHOLAS COMPANY
“Mason and Macy are my kids and not Ethan’s. Here is the DNA result from the court meeting which was held a few hours ago” I uttered, dropping the two brown envelopes on the dining table.
I could see Uncle Karl’s gaze on me but I didn’t want to look at him because his eyes could reveal how disappointed he was and I didn’t want to see that.
“What does it say? Is what he is saying true?” Mr Paul leaned forward, craning his neck to get a better view of the white paper in Mr Benjamin’s hand.
Mr Benjamin’s eyebrows furrowed in concentration, and his eyes widened slightly and I knew his eyes had already seen the result.
Someone slightly pushed me from behind and turning sideways, I saw Anthony standing beside me.
“Everything will be fine soon” he whispered in my ears, his words laced with hope and encouragement.
“How is this possible? Is this some sort of game? One minute the kids are Ethan’s and the other minute, they’re yours?” Mr Benjamin stated, his eyebrows curved in a deep frown as he stared daggers at me.
“Are these original?” Mr Paul asked, after taking a proper look at the paper in Mr Benjamin’s hand.
“Yes, they are. This result was presented in the court by Anthony and Lukas and it wasn’t sealed when they presented it to the judge” I explained, hoping greatly that they reconsider their decision about Greg becoming CEO.
Uncle Karl sighed, caressing the deep line that formed on his forehead while holding the second paper of the DNA paternity test in his hand.
“These two results were from the same hospital right?” Uncle Karl asked, clearly confused about the whole issue.
“Yes, they were. The court had singlehandedly conducted two tests and had asked Anthony and Lukas to pick them up from the hospital” Anthony explained.
“Why did the court perform the test themselves?” Mr John asked.
“They didn’t want any form of unfairness in the outcome of the result” Anthony responded.
“So what you’re trying to say right now is that Macy and Mason are yours and not Ethan’s” Uncle Karl asked, turning behind to look at me.
“Yes uncle they are mine” I replied.
“This is all confusing. It’s like you all are playing with this board. How is this even possible? How sure are you that these results are original?” Uncle Karl asked and I thought deeply about his question.
The result might be fake but I had this strong urge that they weren’t. Ethan cannot manipulate the result in my favor because he knows he will lose and according to what I’ve heard about the judge, he is said to be fearless, trustworthy, and honest so I doubt he faked these results.
“You all are keeping quiet about this? What if Nicholas had bribed the judge to make sure the result was in his favor? He once deceived us with a fake marriage and he can deceive us again” Mr Benjamin said.
“What was the name of the judge?” Uncle Karl asked, his eyes on Anthony as he waited for a response from him
“Marcus. His name is Marcus Blackwood”
“Then it’s settled then. The results aren’t fake and there’s no way Marcus could have collected a bribe from Nicholas. We all know who Marcus Blackwood is” Mr John said.
“You can’t give my position to Greg” I uttered, stating the main reason why I came.
“After what you’ve done. Do you still talk about your position? You should be ashamed Nicholas” Mr Paul said vehemently.
“Nicholas go home and when all this is decided, I will let you know,” Uncle Karl said, his voice slightly raised and I knew this was difficult for him.
