Elaine POV
“We have to get everyone out of here,” Azaire shouted.
Everyone was panicking. They were going to hurt themselves. This wasn’t part of the plan.
“I have an idea.”
“What?”
“Trust me!”
“Always,” he said with concern in his eyes.
I’d fought off witch magic before I believed I could do it again. While panic and chaos broke out I channelled my energy. My wolf went to the back burner while my powers coursed in my veins.
I found the dark magic. It was in the ground and travelling fast throughout the house. I forced my magic out and pushed it into the ground. It bounced off the carpet shot into the ceiling, and nearly went through Ross. Luckily he fell over the couch unscathed.
“Elaine!” he exclaimed.
“Sorry!”
“Try again, mate,” Azaire urged.
I nodded. I’ve done this before I could do it again.
My first attempt increased the chaos. I hurried into the empty kitchen just in case I made another mistake. I forced my energy into the ground again this time the magic penetrated the ground and went after the dark magic.
It was so strong but I willed myself to go on. Sweat formed on my forehead.
“That’s enough, Elaine,” Azaire demanded.
I shook my head. “I can’t let it hurt everyone.”
“You’re going to hurt yourself!” he shouted.
All the lights went out in the mansion. The dark magic’s presence vanished just like all my strength. I fell backwards into Azaire’s arms.
“I think I got it,” I whispered.
Azaire kissed my forehead. “You did, Princess.”
The temperature in the room returned to normal. My wolf came to the forefront of my mind again.
Azaire picked me up and held me to his chest.
“What’s going on?” Richie barked.
I only knew it was Richie standing in front of Azaire because of his scent otherwise he appeared in twos.
“Dark magic,” Azaire responded.
“What happened to Elaine!” Opal screamed.
I clutched my head. They were giving me a headache.
“She handled things,” Azaire replied.
“Now the power’s out. This whole thing was a bust,” Lucas whined.
Azaire carried me out of the mansion. The cool evening air made me feel better. I think I needed a burger to regain my strength.
“I’m fine now, you can put me down,” I told Azaire.
He didn’t look convinced but at least I saw him as one person.
“Mate, I’m fine.”
He set me on the ground regardless but kept his hand on my hip to keep me steady.
“We’ll figure it out later,” Azaire said, pulling me closer.
A car door slammed shut. I turned to see Blazer stagger out of his car. Was he drunk?
How could he be drunk at a time like this?
“You have a lot of nerve showing your face here,” Lucas spat.
“Lucas stop,” Fran said softly
Lucas glared at her.
“He’s fucking scum!”
“Lucas! That’s enough. Can’t you see he isn’t okay?” Fran gasped and ran over to Blazer’s aid.
I noticed the bruise under his eye and his wild hair. He had to have more bruises. My attempt to rush to his side was blocked by Azaire’s arm.
“Stop. He’s got some explaining to do,” Azaire said, his words deadly.
“What happened to you? Did you get into a fight or something?”
Blazer shook his head. Gosh, his lip was swollen too and his eyes bulged out of his skull.
“Avena found out. She’s behind it all, guys. She wants to wipe out the Blood Moon Pack just like Dad.”
I shut my eyes as curses and gasps went around.
I should have known and I wouldn’t be surprised if Dad was in on it.
“I don’t know how she found out but she forced me to pick a side. I couldn’t betray you, Elaine. I told them the party was at the Solstice Bridge two hours ago. They found out I lied. She sent her goons and they pumped me up with wolf enhancers.”
Blazer slipped off Fran’s shoulder and hit the ground.
I gasped.
I shrugged Azaire off and fell in front of my brother. He struggled to breathe and keep his eyes open.
“Stay with me, Blazer!”
He grabbed my wrist but his grip was weak. No, I can’t lose my brother.
After all Avena’s done this was the worst thing she could do.
“It was either betray you and save my Mother. I couldn’t do that to you. I’ve failed you enough as a brother.”
“You haven’t failed. Our Dad failed us.”
I placed my hands on his neck. His pulse was fading quickly.
I’m going to kill Avena myself if something happens to Blazer.
“Let us take him to the Pack doctor, Elaine,” Richie said.
“We don’t have time. He won’t make it,” I said tears filling my eyes.
I wiped my eyes. I had a gift. A gift that was my curse. A gift, my Father exploited but today I’d use it to heal Blazer.
“Think about this Elaine, you’re going to hurt us badly,” Dove said.
I pushed my wolf aside.
“You’re going to be okay,” I whispered.
“Elaine, what are you doing?” Azaire demanded.
It was too late. Power flowed from me to him. It took all the strength I had left to heal Blazer. He shut his eyes and exhaled softly. I wasn’t sure if it worked but a cut opened on my arm and then on my ankle. I hadn’t felt this way in so long. The curse attacked me aggressively. I couldn’t take it. I collapsed and closed my eyes hoping for escape from the pain.
