Sophia couldn’t get a wink of sleep throughout the night as her mind kept going back to the crime she had committed. She felt really uneasy and she couldn’t give an explanation as to why she was feeling that way. Although she was sure no one had seen her when she way committing the crime and she had not left a clue behind, she still felt unsettled and scared. She continued to feel that way until daybreak. At the rise of the sun, she looked outside the window of the hotel she had lodged and smiled.
“The D-day has finally come” she had said, forcing a smile on her face, trying to overcome her hidden yet evident fear. She walked into the bathroom to take her bathe and get ready for the big event that would turn her life around.
Edward on the other hand, was seen rising up from bed and heading into the bathroom to get ready for the event. He took his bathe and just as he was about to step out of the bathroom, he missed his footing and hit his head on the wet tiles.
“Ouch” he yelled in pain as his head hurt and it felt heavy. He managed to sit up amid the ache he was feeling and his vision began to blur. Images of past events when he had met Ellie at the club, the moments they shared together, when he asked her out and the night he had the accident came rushing to him but they weren’t clear enough for him to put the pieces together. All he could ascertain was that the images that had briefly flashed across his eyes, were part of his lost memories and that time around, he could see Ellie’s face clearly in the images. He sat still for a while and when the headache subsidized, he walked into his closet to get dressed. He wore the suit he had made the Fashion Team specifically prepare for the event and he looked hot and dashing in it.
He went to the the dining to have his breakfast before zooming off onto the road to the event. While seated at the dining table having his simple breakfast, one of his maids walked in holding an envelope in her hands.
“Good morning, sir” Clara, who happened to be the maid and who seemed to be in her early 20’s said, showing her courtesy.
“Good morning, Clara. How are you doing today?” Edward asked, briefly taking his eyes off his food and smiling at Clara.
“I am fine, thank you sir. Sir, this package is for you. It got delivered by a dispatch some minutes ago” Clara said, extending the package she was holding in her hands to Edward.
“For me? From whom does it says it’s from?” Edward asked confused, as he wasn’t expecting any package from anyone.
“The sender’s details isn’t written here and it only says it’s for you” Clara responded, looking intently at the envelope she was holding, thinking the sender’s details was written somewhere on it but there was nothing of such.
“It’s okay. You can drop it here. I will check out the content later. Thank you” Edward instructed.
Just as instructed, Clara placed the envelope on the dining table beside Edward and left. Edward continued to munch his food and when he was done, he took the envelope and headed to his room.
“Will check this out once I come back from the event” he had thought, placing the envelope in his closet and just as he was about to turn around and leave, his mind kept telling him to open the envelope and see what was enclosed in it. To satisfy his curiosity, he took the envelope and sat down on the edge of his bed, ready to reveal the content of the envelope. Opening the envelope, he saw enclosed in it a small diary which looked quite familiar. Setting his eyes on the diary triggered his memory as the images of him writing in a diary flashed across his eyes, which made his head ached once one.
“Why does this diary looks so familiar? Why do my head ache and a fragment of my memory flashed across my eyes upon sighting it?” Edward had silently thought, looking intently at the diary he held in his hand. He knew the only way to find answers to his unanswered questions was to go through the content of the diary and so, he did. He opened the diary and on the first page of it, he saw “MY SPECIAL MOMENTS WITH ELLIE” boldly written on it. It was no doubt that that was his handwriting. He continued to flip over the pages and on each page, were the summary of each day he spent with Ellie, ranging from the day they met at Cheetahs to the day he had the accident. As he read each page, the images of each scene played across his eyes and this time around, they were more longer and clearer. His hands began to tremble as his lost memories had began to return and not minding the hurt that came from his head that ached as he read through each page, he continued to dive deeper into the narrative of the diary.
“Today, the 15th day of September, 2019, I finally made her mine. When she walked into the church, I couldn’t breathe as her beauty took away my breath. Although she looked sad and bothered, she still looked so beautiful as I couldn’t take my eyes off hers. As we exchanged the vows, my fears vanished as I was rest assured that no one would be able to take her away from me anymore. She had been acting strangely these days and I think that’s because she has her eyes on another man and that she would leave me. But today as I finally put a ring on her finger, my fear vanished and my joy knew no bound. As she said her vows and tears ran down her cheeks, I felt sad as I do not like seeing her sad and at that moment, I made a promise to myself, that I will never allow her to shed a single drop of tears as long as I am by her side. I promise to never be her source of pain and sorrow but rather be her source of happiness and joy. I promise to spend my entire lifetime with her by my side and to never forsake her no matter the circumstances. I promise to never cheat on her and if I ever do, I will be cheating on her with death. My dear Ellie, if you are reading this, I want you to know that I love you and I will always do. My love for you is an undying one which will never change no matter the circumstances. Thank you for lifting me up in my darkest moments. Thank you for showing me love when everyone betrayed my trust and hurt me. Thank you for giving me a HOME when I thought I wouldn’t have one. Thank you for bringing peace to my troubled soul and for staying by my side when you have the opportunity to leave a weakling like me to be with a better man. Your name “ELLIE” is a name I do not want to forget as you came through for me when I had no one. Thank you for everything you have done for me so far. I love you and will always do. And to my dear child that is growing in your womb, I want you to know you are lucky to have her as your mom as she is the strongest and selfless woman I have ever known. Do know that dad and mum love you and we can’t wait to have you in our arms. To you “MON COEUR”, I promise to love you until my last breath and to never forsake you, when you need me the most” Edward had read out and as soon as he finished reading the last page of the diary, the diary slipped off his hand and collided with the cold tiles. Tears began to roll down his eyes uncontrollably as all his lost memories had been regained. His hands trembled and so also his lips. He didn’t know what to do as he buried his face in his palms and he began to cry the more.
The thought of him not standing by Ellie and their child as he had promised, haunted her and he felt ashamed for not being able to keep his promises. He felt ashamed for not being able to recognize the woman he had claimed he loved the day she showed up at their son’s birthday.
“She must hate me now for abandoning her and our child” Edward had thought, still sobbing bitterly.
“I am sorry, Mon Coeur” he had said amid his cries, confused and not knowing the next step to take.
