Chapter 271: Love Can’t Be Forced

With that, she held a high hope of marrying Dave. She had faced many hardships and made significant sacrifices in return for him.
Determined to win his love, she had no intention of marrying anyone else; it was the only purpose she lived for.
As she slowly relaxed her fists, Skylar returned to her gentle demeanor and walked back to the mansion.
Seeing Lucas, a sweet smile lit up her face. She quickly approached and sat down beside him.
“Let’s have a chat now!”
Lucas looked at her with delight, unable to suppress a sigh. He gently patted Skylar’s hand and said, “Skylar, you’re incredibly understanding and kind. If I were you, I’d encourage him to stay. It’s not unusual for other bold women to try and get close to him. You should keep an eye on your man.”
With a subtle smile, Skylar ran her fingers through her long hair, letting it fall over her shoulder as she looked down. “Love can’t be forced. If Dave doesn’t love me, what’s the point of him staying? Maybe he has a girlfriend, and that’s why he’s hesitant to marry me.”
Lucas was momentarily taken aback. He shook his head firmly and replied, “That’s impossible. How could I not know if he had a girlfriend?”
“Maybe… he’s keeping it a secret from you.” Skylar lifted her eyes, the young man’s words earlier still echoing in her mind.
Skylar was eager to find out the truth about Bianca, whether she had bad intentions toward Dave or a special connection with him. She wanted to make sure Bianca wouldn’t hinder her relationship with Dave.
“You said he stayed single all these years waiting for me. But now that I’m back, he seems so cold. If he’s in love with someone else, I’ll step aside. I just want him to be happy.” Tears filled Skylar’s eyes, making her feel vulnerable.
Her words made Lucas suspicious about Dave’s relationship status. It seemed strange that Dave had been single for so long.
‘Was his grandson hiding something from him?’
“Don’t worry, I’ll send someone to check Dave’s activities,” Lucas said, frowning.
Skylar quickly grabbed Lucas’s hand and persuaded him, “Please don’t confront Dave directly. If he finds out I told you something, he’ll hate me.”
Lucas gave her a comforting look. “Don’t worry. I’ll check into it quietly.”
Skylar nodded and leaned on his shoulder, saying, “You’re like family to me. I don’t have anyone else. I’ve always seen you as my grandfather. Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Whether I end up with Dave or not, you’ll always be a grandpa to me.”
Touched, Lucas patted her hand and replied softly, “You’re my only granddaughter-in-law. I’ll make sure Dave marries you.”
A happy smile spread across Skylar’s face.
Blake drove his car through the busy city streets, feeling the cool evening wind against his face.
He tightened his grip on the steering wheel, still thinking about his meeting with Dave at the restaurant.
Dave’s harsh words echoed in his mind, and he worried about how heartbroken Bianca would be if she knew the truth.
Just the thought of it hurt Blake’s heart.
His thoughts kept circling back to something Paige had mentioned before.
“If you like her, go after her. Can you really stand by while she ends up with someone wrong, wasting her life? You’re as silent as your mother!”
Suddenly, Blake slammed on the brakes and pulled over to the side of the road, jolting forward.
He looked out the window and realized he was in Bianca’s neighborhood.
Clenching his fists, he felt determined. He couldn’t just watch the woman he loved get involved with someone deceitful. He will do everything to win back Bianca’s heart!
Meanwhile, after leaving Lucas’s house, Dave checked his phone and saw he had a missed call from Bianca.
He hesitated to call her back, his hand hovering over the phone.
Did Bianca know about what happened today? How would he explain it?
After a long pause, Dave finally dialed her number.
“You called? I’m sorry, I was busy,” he said in a soft, deep voice.
He prepared himself for her rant, but to his surprise, Bianca sounded calm. “It’s okay… I just missed you. I was wondering when you’d be back. I know you’re busy.”
Dave tightened his grip on the phone, wishing he could tell her he was done with work and on his way back. All he wanted was to hold Bianca and bury his face in her soft hair.
The events of the evening bothered him. After a brief pause, he said, “Today was busy at the company. I don’t think I can make it home.”
“Okay, I understand.” Bianca’s calm and soothing voice brought him some comfort.
Clearly, Blake hadn’t told Bianca what was happening tonight, and Dave felt relieved about that.
After ending the call, he instructed Zane to head to the office. Once settled in his large chair, he rubbed his eyebrows with his fingers, visibly annoyed.
Dave had always thought that defeating his uncles was all he needed to inherit the Evans Group. But Skylar’s unexpected appearance complicated things, leaving him feeling overwhelmed.
Leaning back in his chair, he looked at the bright neon lights and thought deeply for a while.
The next day, when Bianca arrived at the company, she almost bumped into Blake as she walked in.
“Blake, you’re here quite early today,” Bianca said, stepping back and looking at him curiously.
Blake looked at her, wanting to say something. After a few seconds, he smiled and replied, “I got up early, so here I am. Bianca, how was your night? Did you sleep well?”
“Yes,” Bianca replied, wearing a puzzled expression as she looked back at Blake. “Is something wrong?”
“Were you with your boyfriend last night?”
“No, he had a lot to do and needed to work late.” Bianca continued walking as she talked.
Blake felt a heavy disappointment. Just as he suspected, Dave had made up an excuse to mislead Bianca. He had been with another woman but told her he was busy with work.
And he claimed the other woman was just a friend.
Fuming, Blake impulsively stepped forward and grabbed Bianca’s wrist.
“What’s wrong, Blake?” Bianca asked, glancing back at him and lifting her arm.
Realizing what he had done, Blake quickly let go of her wrist and cleared his throat. “Well… My godmother was asking about you. She wants to know if you’re free for dinner tonight. Can you make it?”
