Chapter 97: A Godforsaken Place

Book:My Stone-Hearted Billionaire Husband Published:2024-10-8

One hour passed, then two, then three, then four, but Lilian still hadn’t heard a single word from Kourtney, and neither was she back yet.
The series she was watching was very engrossing, and she was hooked. But even then, she became worried.
She picked up her phone and dialed the familiar number, but it wasn’t connecting. She decided to send Kourtney a text message but also didn’t get a reply after waiting for another half an hour.
“That’s it! I’m going to Allen Corp. Oh, Kourtney, you’ll never let me watch my dramas in peace, will you?” she complained lightheartedly with pouted lips.
When Lilian got to Allen Corporations, she didn’t even need to ask questions about what happened to Kourtney. The gossip was everywhere. Every floor, every corner, everyone was talking about the “incident.”
“The older Allen sister pushed the younger and more successful Allen sister off the stairs out of pure jealousy because she was carrying her Ex-Fiance’s child and marrying him in a few days!”
Lilian almost went mad. She could almost feel the smoke coming out from her ears.
“Hey… what station was she taken to?” she asked a passing-by nerdy male employee, holding him tightly by the collar.
“Let go of my shirt. Are you crazy?”
The man’s eyes widened in surprise, his collar crinkling in her grip. Lilian could feel the heat of her face rising, fueled by a mix of fear and anger.
“Just tell me where Kourtney is!” she demanded, her voice sharp enough to cut through the whispers that filled the office.
“I-I don’t know! I’m just a tech guy!”
“Useless!” Lilian spat, releasing him with a shove.
She attempted to ask more staff, but it was either they ignored her, or they just didn’t really know where exactly Kourtney was taken.
“This Godforsaken place!” she swore under her breath, her mind racing to think of her next move.
She glanced around the chaotic office, where hushed conversations surrounded her, and then it hit her.
“What the actual fuck I’m I even doing here when I’m supposed to be at…”
With a determined stride, Lilian boarded a taxi, instructing the driver to take her to Woods Corporation instead. “Step on it!” she urged, her impatience bubbling over.
That man could bend the world to his will. If anyone could help Kourtney, it was him…….
Upon reaching Woods Corporation, Lilian rushed into the towering glass building in haste. She could feel the prying eyes of the staff on her as she stormed through the lobby, her determination radiating from her every step.
“I need to see the CEO, Sebastian Woods,” she declared to the receptionist.
The receptionist, a young woman with an air of arrogance, raised an eyebrow. “Do you have an appointment?”
“Appointment? Kourtney’s in jail, and I need to talk to him now!” Lilian exclaimed, her voice rising with urgency.
The receptionist smirked, flipping her long hair over her shoulder as if Lilian’s panic was a mere triviality. “I’m sorry, but you cannot see President Woods without a proper appointment.”
Lilian felt like slamming her overly done plastic surgery face on the desk, but she held herself back.
However, her blood continued to boil over. Heat rose in her cheeks, and her hands trembled with barely contained rage.
“Do you even understand the situation? My friend could be in serious trouble! Are you really going to deny me access to her hus-”
“Excuse me, I don’t make the rules,” the receptionist replied, flipping a fashion magazine nonchalantly. “And shouting won’t change anything. Billionaires are busy, especially the president of a major corporation like this. Maybe if you’d thought ahead and made an appointment, you wouldn’t be in this predicament, whining like a baby!”
Lilian clenched her fist tightly as she started shouting. “You can’t be serious! What kind of place is this? Are you really going to sit there and play gatekeeper while my friend is in danger?”
The receptionist finally looked up from the magazine, her eyes narrowing. “Who do you think you are to just barge in here? If you keep raising your stupid voice at me, I’ll have to call security.”
“Go ahead! You think I care?” Lilian shot back, her voice rising even higher in pitch. “I’m not going anywhere until I see Sebastian Woods!”
The lobby was buzzing now, with heads turning and whispers circulating. People were beginning to gather, drawn to the commotion like moths to a flame. Lilian’s heart raced as she glanced around, realizing more and more people were staring at her.
This had turned into a spectacle, and she didn’t like the feeling of being the center of attention. She could feel the weight of their gazes, their curiosity only adding to her rage.
Just as the receptionist reached for the phone to call security, a striking red-haired woman strode into the lobby, her presence commanding instant attention.
It was as if the tension in the air shifted as soon as she walked in.
The one and only Rachael Lind!
