Kourtney nodded, then stared at the closed door, anxiety bubbling inside her.
She stood in the hallway, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her blouse. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the chaos swirling in her mind. But just then, the door swung open, and in walked Kathlyn, her expression a mixture of surprise and disdain.
“What are you doing here, sister?” Kathlyn demanded rudely, her voice laced with a venomous edge that made Kourtney’s stomach churn.
“I have just as much right to be here as you do. Dad may have tried to keep me away, but I’m still an Allen.”
Kathlyn’s laughter was cold and cutting. “An Allen? Look at you, standing here like a lost puppy. You don’t belong here, Kourtney. You’re not cut out for this world. I mean, did anyone even bother to say a single word to you?”
Kourtney felt her cheeks flush with anger, and she swallowed, trying her best to keep cool.
“I didn’t expect to see you here, especially after the way you tried to steal Brandon from me. Oh, wait! Did you come here to try and steal Brandon again?” Kathlyn continued to degrade her.
Kourtney was disgusted at this point. “About that, it was him who came to my workplace, begging shamelessly like a dog for me to forgive him and take him back. Don’t you want to know what he said about you? He called you a dirty slut and said he loves only me and never would have gotten with you if you hadn’t seduced him first. Oh, Kathlyn, I feel so sorry for you having such a man as your baby daddy.”
Kathlyn’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, Kourtney could see the fury boiling beneath her sister’s polished exterior.
“Oh, did I hit a nerve?” she taunted.
Kathlyn only stepped closer with a sneer, clutching her pregnant belly. Her expression morphed into something sinister. “Well, we’ll see about that.”
In a sudden, swift motion, she shoved at Kourtney’s arm before she stumbled backward as if she had just lost her footing and balance. Kathlyn sneered, and Kourtney could see the satisfaction in her eyes as she watched her sister fall.
Kourtney didn’t even realize what was happening until she watched wide-eyed as Kathlyn stumbled dangerously on the staircase until she hit the floor with a sickening thud.
Within seconds, a pool of blood started gushing out from between her legs, and a gasp escaped Kourtney’s lips.
“Oh my God! Quick… call an ambulance!” someone shouted as Kourtney’s vision blurred.
Kathlyn lay on the floor, her face pale. She looked as if she were fading away, her hand clutching her belly as if trying to protect her unborn child.
“Pleasseeeeee…. save my baby,” she cried out loud, wiggling in pain.
Kourtney’s heart dropped.
Had she really done this?
No, she hadn’t even touched her sister.
Kathlyn was such a good actress.
An Oscar deserving one for that matter.
Everything happened so fast, like in the movies.
She stood there like a mannequin, unable to move due to the shock. She never thought that Kathlyn would go this far just to ruin her.
Before she could gather her thoughts, a crowd of employees and officials from Allen Corporation gathered around Kathlyn, frantically trying to revive her. Panic spread like wildfire.
“She’s losing too much blood!” a voice cried out, the urgency palpable as the thick smell of blood filled the air.
“She’s fainted! Who pushed her?” another asked, their eyes darting up toward Kourtney, who stood atop the staircase, still frozen in shock.
“What have you done?” a voice shrieked from the crowd that had gathered.
Accusatory fingers began to point in her direction, their expressions twisted in disgust.
“She’s so jealous of her sister to the point of causing her to lose her pregnancy! What a wicked bitch,” one employee hissed, her voice dripping with disdain.
Kourtney felt a wave of nausea wash over her. “I… I didn’t do anything!” she protested, but her voice was drowned out by the rising tide of accusations.
Her heart raced as she frantically searched for a way to defend herself.
“Call the police! This is attempted murder!” another employee of the company chimed in, the accusation hanging in the air like a dark cloud.
In a matter of seconds, she could already hear the police sirens blaring outside the Allen Corporation.
‘How did the police get here so quickly?’ she wondered, panic rising in her chest.
Except……
This had been Kathlyn’s plan all along.
This was all just a setup.
The sudden HR invite, the confrontation, the fall, the blood-all of it was a setup designed to frame her as the villain in this twisted game.
Lilian was right.
She should never have bothered to come here!
But she hadn’t listened.
Once again, she’d been a fool.
And now…..
“I… I have to get away from here!” Kourtney said to herself as she spiraled down the staircase, attempting to push her way through the crowd. But the mob of employees blocked her path, their eyes filled with contempt.
“This Bitch! Now you’re trying to run away? Stay back! You did this!” one man yelled, shoving her shoulder with force until her butt hit the hardwood floor.
The police arrived at the scene in no time and started asking questions.
“This woman pushed Ms Allen. I saw it with my two eyes,” a male voice sprang out loud.
Kourtney looked over to see the person who was uttering such lies. It was the same naive and innocent-looking intern who had brought her up the stairs.
She wanted to cry, to scream, to fight back against the injustice that was unfolding before her eyes. But instead, she stood there, her heart heavy with regret for even bothering to come here.
“Ma’am, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law,” a police officer stated, his tone firm yet devoid of any compassion.
