Elizabeth and Jamie were celebrating their first anniversary. Elizabeth was in Jamie’s arms talking about their future and dreams, sipping an expensive wine slowly. Elizabeth had never been happy like that in her life.
Her ex-husband, August, tried to make her happy but, because she didn’t have any feelings for him, she always felt suffocated by his love. The love that she shared with Jamie was special and nothing could separate them.
For the past few days, Elizabeth had been under the weather. After her lover went to ‘work’, she asked Lily to drop her at the hospital. Lily looked at her aunt with concern in her eyes and asked, “What is wrong, Auntie?”
Lily was really worried. Without her aunt, she wouldn’t have a future. Aunt Elizabeth smiled faintly and replied, “Don’t worry your beautiful face, my niece. I just have the flu.”
Lily breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that it wasn’t something serious, and then she took her aunt to Taylor Private Hospital. Aunt Elizabeth told Lily not to wait for her. She indicated that she would request an Uber when she was done.
Elizabeth went to Dr Fowler’s consultation room. She waited for an hour, then it was her turn. Dr Fowler was surprised to see Elizabeth because she knew that she didn’t love children.
She looked at Elizabeth and asked, “How may I help you, Miss Parker?” Elizabeth smiled brightly and replied, “I think I am pregnant, Dr Fowler.” Dr Fowler was shocked to hear those words coming from Elizabeth’s mouth.
Then she performed the ultrasound. Dr Fowler smiled and said, “Congratulations, Miss Parker. You are eight weeks pregnant.” Elizabeth was overjoyed. She thanked Dr Fowler and left Dr Fowler’s consultation room in high spirits.
In the corridors, she met Avery, but she ignored her. Avery looked at her mother and greeted her. Aunt Elizabeth looked at her as if she was looking at a stranger.
Elizabeth was very happy, and she didn’t want to talk to an irrelevant person. Avery was an eyesore. Talking to her would spoil her mood.
After she left the hospital, she decided to go to the mall to buy expensive wine for the father of her baby and a big cake to celebrate. Then she went to the Taylor Jewelry and bought a diamond wedding band.
Elizabeth didn’t have any doubt in her mind that Jamie would ask her to register their marriage when she told him that she was pregnant. However, life has a way of throwing curveballs when you least expect them.
When Jamie arrived home the atmosphere was different. He looked at Elizabeth with questioning eyes. Elizabeth smiled brightly and said, “I have good news to tell you, my love.” Then she handed the ultrasound photo to him.
Jamie furrowed his brows and asked, “What is this, Elizabeth?” She flashed him a beautiful smile and replied, “It’s our baby, my love. I am two months pregnant.”
Jamie couldn’t believe his ears. His mind became blank. However, he snapped back to his senses and asked, “What? Pregnant? How could you be so shameless, Elizabeth? Are you trying to trap me with the baby?”
Elizabeth was taken aback by her lover’s outburst. She was expecting a big hug and kisses from her lover. She felt offended by Jamie’s questions and asked, “What do you mean, Jamie?”
Jamie was fuming with anger and replied, “Do you know how old you are? You are fifty years old, but you are still thinking of being pregnant. Don’t you care about your life?”
Tears streamed down Elizabeth’s eyes, and she replied, “I am forty-four years old, not fifty. Also, I don’t see any problem because we are engaged.” Since Lily started being rebellious it had taken a toll on her aunt’s body. She aged a lot.
Jamie shook his head and asked, “Didn’t you tell me that you had your fallopian tubes tied? Were you lying to me?”
Elizabeth looked at Jamie puzzled and asked, “When did I tell you that, Jamie?” Lily assured Jamie that her aunt would not fall pregnant because she had her fallopian tubes tied.
When Jamie discovered that he had said something wrong he replied, “You are so forgetful, Elizabeth. You told me during our exercise.”
Elizabeth couldn’t refute Jamie’s words because during their exercise her mind always went blank. She looked at Jamie with pleading eyes and said, “Why don’t we register our marriage? I don’t want to give birth out of wedlock.”
Jamie sneered, “Elizabeth, I hate children. You have to choose, it’s me or that thing in your belly.” Jamie’s words were cold, and they hurt Elizabeth deeply.
Their baby was the fruit of their love. How could he ask her to get rid of their baby? She pouted her mouth and replied, “Baby, please I want to keep the baby. This is our little miracle, a gift from the Lord. Let’s get married, my love.”
Jamie’s face darkened and sneered, “Elizabeth, I didn’t sign up for this. Should you want to keep the baby, count me out. Call me when you reach a decision.” Then he took his suit jacket and left.
Elizabeth sat on the bed and cried for a long time. She didn’t want to abort her baby and she didn’t want to lose Jamie either. How could Jamie be so cruel? He wanted to kill his flesh and blood.
Elizabeth was in a dilemma. She loved Jamie wholeheartedly. He is everything to her. However, she loved their baby more.
A week had passed with no text messages or phone calls from Jamie. Elizabeth tried to reach out. She sent text messages, but she didn’t get any response. Her calls went straight to voicemail.
Lily was worried about her beloved aunt and asked, “Did you fight with Jamie, Auntie?” Elizabeth nodded her head and replied, “Jamie asked me to choose between him and our baby, Lily. How could he be so cruel?”
Lily was utterly dumbfounded because her aunt didn’t love children. She looked at her aunt with concern in her eyes and asked, “Whom are you going to choose, Auntie?”
Elizabeth became annoyed and replied, “I choose both, Lily. I love this child with every fiber in my body.” Lily was shocked when she heard her aunt’s words and asked, “Are you willing to lose the love of your life over a child, Auntie?”
Tears were streaming down Elizabeth’s face. Her heart was broken into pieces. She shook her head and asked, “Why do I have to choose, Lily? Is it too much for me to want them both in my life?”
Lily shook her head and replied, “Auntie, have you thought it through? You can’t force a child on Jamie. It is unfair to him. Also, you are no longer young, and it is risky to give birth at your age.”
Two weeks later, Jamie went to the mansion to fetch his clothes. He looked at Elizabeth coldly and said, “It seemed you have chosen that thing in your belly. It’s over between us.” Then he packed his luggage and headed towards the lift.
Elizabeth was devastated. She ran after him, pleading not to leave her. She grabbed his luggage and promised that she would abort their baby the following day.
Jamie’s eyes were icy cold, and he asked, “Am I not enough for you, Elizabeth? Why do you want to complicate things? I don’t think I will ever forgive you for choosing the baby over me. I don’t care anymore.
Do whatever you like with your baby. It’s over between us.” For the first time, Elizabeth understood the pain her ex-husband went through when she wanted to abort Avery. She felt suffocated. She couldn’t breathe.
A few months later, she had some complications and she lost her baby. She blamed herself for failing to protect Jamie’s child. She mourned for her child for a long time.
