Sylvia’s tone was equally impatient and annoyed. “If you keep talking nonsense, I’ll tell my brother-in-law right now, you…”
She was interrupted by Otto before she could finish. “Fine! I’ll tell you, okay?”
After hanging up the phone, Sylvia’s face turned very serious.
Clare glanced at her through the rearview mirror and asked, puzzled, “What’s wrong? Didn’t he say anything?”
“He did.” Sylvia sighed heavily. “My sister and I are twins, fraternal twins, so we don’t look much alike. She looks more like our father, and I look more like our mother. Because we are fraternal twins, I absorbed nutrients better, while my sister didn’t. You could say she couldn’t compete with me even in the womb. Later, when she was born, she was weak and sickly and didn’t develop well.”
“Our mother didn’t want my sister to feel too self-conscious or sad, so she always told everyone that my sister was two years younger than me. But that’s not true… Only our mother and Otto knew the truth. Everyone else thought my sister was younger…”
A tear slid down Sylvia’s cheek, her beautiful eyes shimmering with star-like tears. From the moment they were in the womb, she had failed to fulfill her duty as an older sister…
She had taken her sister’s health.
She felt deeply saddened.
“Sylvia…” Clare seemed to sense Sylvia’s sadness. After all, the truth was indeed heartbreaking. He clumsily tried to comfort her. “It’s not your fault. Don’t blame yourself. It’s common for one twin to be healthier than the other.”
“Some people improve with postnatal care, while others… may not. Unfortunately, Jenna is the latter. When she and your mother disappeared together, it wasn’t her fault, and it certainly wasn’t yours… It’s just fate.”
Sylvia felt even more distressed thinking about all the hardships Jenna had endured since childhood.
“Forget it. Thinking about it won’t help.”
Her eyes flashed with determination. “If we can’t find another match soon, I’ll use mine.”
“Sylvia, you’re a complete match. Why are you still looking for another one?” Clare sensed something in her words.
“I was poisoned years ago… I’m afraid there might be aftereffects that could be passed on to her.” At this critical moment, Sylvia couldn’t hide anything from the Hipps family anymore.
Clare was stunned by her words, staring at her in shock. “What about now? How are you? Are you okay?”
There was no sign of any poisoning in her body!
“I haven’t had any symptoms for now, so I’m not sure if it will be contagious.” Sylvia felt a bit helpless. “But compared to poisoning, life is more important.”
“If you want to be a donor match for her, you’ll need to discuss it with the Wright family first. After all… she now has a mother-in-law and father-in-law, a husband… I heard Jenna is already married?” Clare regretted not being part of his niece’s life.
“Yes, she’s married but hasn’t had the wedding yet.” Sylvia’s beautiful eyes showed concern. “Let’s go straight to the hospital now. We can’t delay any longer.”
“Alright.”
Sylvia took out her phone and called Queena. “Grandma, Jenna is indeed my sister. You and Grandpa should come to the hospital too; we need to discuss this together.”
“Really? That’s wonderful!” Queena’s voice was excited but also filled with concern. “Oh dear, how did my poor child get leukemia…”
After hanging up the phone, she didn’t hesitate and immediately called Mr. Hipps to have the family driver take them to the hospital.
“I knew… this child is ours.”
“But this illness…”
Mr. Hipps patted her hand. “Sylvia can be a match for her, right? If it works out, everything should be fine.”
He wasn’t entirely sure but wanted to comfort Queena.
“Let’s hope so… At my age, I don’t ask for much… I just want the children to be safe and sound.”
Queena closed her eyes briefly and then reopened them to look at the scenery outside.
“Alright, don’t overthink it. After all, it’s good news.” Mr. Hipps patted her hand again. “Don’t lose your composure when we get to the hospital.”
As they spoke, the car arrived at the hospital’s underground parking lot.
The elderly couple got out of the car, and Queena clutched her bag tightly.
Then they walked into the elevator together.
She had met Jenna before and remembered the sweet-looking girl who was cute, pretty, and smart-a little genius.
She never imagined… that Jenna would turn out to be Sylvia’s sister.
Just as the couple entered the elevator, Clare and Sylvia arrived at the parking lot and stepped into another elevator.
As Queena and Mr. Hipps exited their elevator and were about to find Jenna’s room, the other elevator doors opened.
Sylvia and Clare stepped out.
Their eyes met, and Sylvia tightened her grip on the folder in her hand. “Grandma, Grandpa.”
“Let’s go see your sister.” Queena extended her hand to Sylvia, who took her dry hand willingly. “Okay.”
The four of them quickly reached Jenna’s room. Seeing the sudden arrival of the Hipps family elders, Mrs. Wright and Brayden were puzzled but warmly welcomed them.
“Queena, Mr. Hipps, you’re so busy…” Mrs. Wright began to say some polite words but was startled by Queena’s emotional expression. “What’s wrong?”
The elderly lady’s eyes were red with tears as she grasped Mrs. Wright’s hands tightly. “My in-law!”
In-law?
Mrs. Wright was even more shocked and looked at Sylvia for help. “Sylvia… this…”
Sylvia didn’t waste any words and answered directly, “Jenna is my biological sister. This is the DNA test result. You and Jasper can take a look.”
Sister?
Biological sister?
The Wright family mother and son were stunned!
Jenna, lying in bed, was also shocked!
She stared at Sylvia in disbelief. “Sister? You’re my sister? My real sister?”
Sylvia nodded firmly.
Mrs. Wright had already opened the document and quickly flipped to the results.
She was dumbfounded.
Brayden was also dumbfounded.
It was a bit chaotic.
Sylvia began explaining what Otto had said and recounted how their mother had been sold by Otto years ago. Everyone listened silently and attentively.
The room was quiet except for Sylvia’s clear voice.
A few minutes later, everyone was once again shocked.
Queena couldn’t hold back her tears any longer; this once iron-willed woman was now just an elderly lady in her twilight years. “That scoundrel Otto sold my daughter! Jenna must have gotten lost when she was so young back then.”
“I don’t know where he sold my mother or where my sister went…” Sylvia turned away and wiped her tears. “Thankfully… you’re still alive.”
She walked to Jenna’s bedside and held her cold hand tightly. “Don’t worry; I’ll save you. But…”
She turned to Mrs. Wright and Brayden. “There’s something I need to discuss with you.”
“Go ahead,” Brayden immediately responded.
Sylvia took a deep breath and explained about being poisoned by Love Parasite years ago.
“If you agree, I’ll be her donor match. If you want to wait a bit longer… we can wait a bit longer. After all… now that she’s married to Brayden, I need to discuss this with you; I need to respect your opinions and suggestions.”
“Sylvia, your health… You seem fine usually; how could you have such a deeply hidden poison?” Mrs. Wright looked at her incredulously.
Queena almost fainted when she heard Sylvia mention being poisoned. “Sylvia… if it weren’t for this situation, would you have never told us about this poison?”
“What a sin!”
She had experienced so many ups and downs in one day that she almost couldn’t catch her breath.
“I’m… okay. It hasn’t flared up for over a year now.” Sylvia faced their concerned gazes with pressure but didn’t dare say that Franklin had been detoxifying her whenever it flared up… so it was fine.
But she couldn’t say that out loud.
“Since you haven’t had any symptoms for so long, it should be okay? Between poisoning and losing one’s life, I’d choose poisoning.” Jenna looked at Brayden; the tall man immediately walked over and gently helped her sit up.
He thoughtfully placed a pillow behind her back.
Her pale face looked at Sylvia and then at everyone else. “I’ve decided to accept your bone marrow, sister. There probably isn’t anyone more suitable than you in this world. Thank you, sister.”
Her tears fell like broken pearls.
Sylvia couldn’t help but reach out and hug her tightly; her sister… the one she had been searching for all these years had been by her side all along.
She never imagined that her sister had suffered so much.
Had gone through so many hardships.
“Now that we know we’re family, let’s all be well from now on,” Queena gently wiped away her tears and looked at Mrs. Wright again. “Thank you so much for taking such good care of Jenna.”
As she spoke, she took out a bracelet from her bag and put it on Jenna’s wrist. “This is a gift from Grandma.”
“Grandma… this is too precious.” Jenna was startled.
“Precious? It’s just jewelry.” Queena said as she took out an emerald necklace from her bag as well. “This is for you too. Thank you!”
