Tom was slightly stunned. After regaining his composure, he stood up and looked at the girl holding the cat. Their eyes met.
A gentle evening breeze blew past…
Agnes felt a moment of confusion because she had never seen such eyes before, as dark as ink, wise yet bright and deep enough to lose oneself in.
As the sky darkened, the warm yellow streetlights cast a soft glow on the man’s tall figure, making him look like he stepped out of a painting.
He was so handsome that it seemed unreal.
Agnes felt like she had seen him somewhere before but couldn’t recall where.
When the girl caught Tom’s eye, he was also momentarily distracted. Her long black hair cascaded over her shoulders, looking youthful and vibrant.
Having seen many surgically altered faces, this natural beauty left a deep impression.
But Agnes remained wary of him.
Judging by his attire, he didn’t seem like someone who lived in the neighborhood, but his intentions were clear-he wanted to hold Bubu!
“Hello, my name is Tom Fritz,” the man said with a gentle smile, his voice warm and inviting.
She had no interest in who he was!
But since he wanted to take Bubu, he couldn’t be a good person!
Agnes could have turned and walked away, but seeing many cute kittens playing around while their owners chatted without concern for safety made her feel compelled to intervene.
“What were you trying to do?” Agnes asked coldly, her tone accusatory as she stared at him.
Tom Fritz could see the wariness in her eyes and explained, “I’m not a cat dealer.”
“Did I say you were?” Agnes retorted more cautiously. “You just gave yourself away!”
Tom Fritz sighed inwardly but remained patient. “I’m really not a cat dealer. I was just…” He glanced at the swings nearby. “I was worried those cats might not be vaccinated and could carry diseases.”
His voice was surprisingly pleasant, rich like aged wine.
Agnes quickly snapped back to reality. She held Bubu tightly but noticed that Bubu kept looking kindly at the man and meowing softly.
The little creature even greeted him proactively, which surprised Agnes and made her even more cautious.
The girl thought for a moment and then asked him, “Do you know Bubu? Why are you worried about it getting infected?”
Tom Fritz could tell that the girl loved this cat very much but wasn’t sure if his words had alleviated her concerns.
“Meow~ Meow!” The kitten struggled in Agnes’s arms, clearly wanting Tom to hold it. It reacted as if meeting an old friend.
“What kind of magic did you use on it?” Agnes panicked and held Bubu tightly. “Bubu, Bubu, look at Mommy. Mommy is here!”
Mommy??
Tom raised an eyebrow and steadied his emotions. In the world of cats, he considered himself their ‘Daddy.’
“You call it Bubu too?” He looked at the girl and asked gently.
The girl was slightly taken aback and looked at him again with suspicion. How did he know that? Who was he? What did he want?
Tom’s gaze fell once more on her natural face. Whether filled with wariness or doubt, her eyes were particularly bright and clear, like stars in the night sky.
