“Spencer,” Tom said, noticing that he wasn’t joking, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious, “I’m not kidding you.”
“Coincidentally, I’m not kidding either,” Spencer emphasized. “With a big club to run, flying abroad occasionally to take them to competitions, and now shooting a movie, spending all day on set, when do I have time to keep a cat?”
Tom Fritz became even more anxious and was at a loss for words.
“I really gave it away, I sent it off the day I got it back,” Spencer explained.
Now Tom Fritz was even more worried. “Who did you give it to?”
Spencer replied, “Can’t talk now, I’m on set! About to shoot the next scene, we’ll chat later! Also, just so you know, your cat is being well taken care of by its new owner, don’t worry!”
Before Tom Fritz could probe any further about Bubu, Spencer had already hung up the phone.
Tom Fritz was nearly furious!
He knew it was Spencer who had adopted the cat, and yet he couldn’t get it back?
Seeing that the boss’s negotiation with Spencer had failed, the girl lowered her head even more, looking guilty. She nervously stared at the shiny leather shoes in front of her, too scared to even breathe heavily.
Tom held his phone, his gaze coldly falling on the girl.
Seeing her remorseful demeanor and knowing it wasn’t intentional, he decided not to blame her further.
Then glancing at the other cats around, Tom instructed, “Take good care of them; thank you for your hard work.” With that, he turned and left.
The girl looked up at his tall retreating figure without feeling relieved; her heart was filled with guilt and self-reproach.
She knew how much Mr. Fritz loved that little cat.
Losing his cat and yet hearing him acknowledge her efforts made her feel awful inside.
In the evening,
Spencer left the set and bid farewell to Summer, mentioning he was heading to the club to coach the kids for an upcoming international cybersecurity competition.
He drove to an alleyway and went alone to Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Campbell’s house.
When he arrived at the flower shop with two bottles of wine in hand, he found it closed.
Huh?
Not home?
Just as Spencer was puzzled, a delivery guy on a bike came towards him. Perhaps due to brake failure or slippery moss on the ground, the bike started wobbling uncontrollably!
“Ah-” The delivery guy couldn’t manage it and began instinctively screaming, trying several times but unable to stop.
Seeing this, Spencer quickly bent down to place his wine on the ground and faced the swaying electric scooter head-on!
Just as the bike was about to fall over, he stepped forward and grabbed both handles of the scooter!
His resistance combined with the delivery guy’s effort to stabilize with his legs finally brought the bike under control.
The scene was particularly dangerous and required courage.
Not far away, Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Campbell who had just returned from a friend’s wedding saw this unfold and were extremely anxious for him!
Seeing that the bike was controlled and watching the delivery guy continuously thanking him while observing Spencer’s sincere smile made them think even more highly of him.
Then watching as the delivery guy rode away and seeing Spencer bend down again to pick up the two bottles of wine,
He stood alone at the flower shop entrance waiting without even taking out his phone to call; what if they didn’t come back tonight? How long would he wait?
Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Campbell approached him full of admiration.
“Spencer.”
The man turned around at their call. “Dad! Mom! Where have you been?” He called them mom and dad so naturally; seeing them return made Spencer especially happy.
Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Campbell couldn’t help but smile kindly; they enjoyed being addressed this way since they were soon to be family after all.
As Mr. Campbell unlocked the door he answered, “We went to a brother’s house today for his grandson’s full moon celebration.”
