Although he was no busybody, Sachin was still willing to play along with her, as she sounded so happy. “Why?”
“Because… ” Rosiley deliberately kept him guessing and started chuckling. “Steven Song is Xiaoxiao’s ex-boyfriend.”
Sachin raised his eyebrows in surprise. It was indeed quite unexpected.
“Are you very surprised?” Rosiley took a sip of water from the glass on the table. She could not help but grumble. “I was very surprised myself. I didn’t expect her blind date to be her ex-boyfriend.”
Rosiley rattled on about Xiaoxiao’s blind date in the afternoon. She was in high spirits and so happy that she forgot to enjoy the night scene.
Sachin watched her quietly, his black eyes as deep as a lake. A faint smile hung on the corner of his lips.
Outside the French window next to them, the inky sky was dotted with scattered stars. It complemented the captivating sea of lights in Benin City at night—a beautiful scene.
It was 10 at night when they got home from Royal Dynasty Heights. After taking her shower, Rosiley lay on the bed, resting. Soon, she fell asleep.
Sachin walked out of the bathroom and could see in one glance that she was already asleep on the bed.
He tiptoed over and stood by the bed, bowing his head to look at the soundly asleep and completely defenseless Rosiley. Tenderness filled his eyes, and the corners of his lips curled up almost imperceptibly.
He pulled the blanket over her, and his eyes fell on her delicate sleeping face. His heart was ruffled, and he reached out to brush away the loose hair on her cheek. Then he bent down and kissed her passionately on the forehead.
“Good night,” he said softly.
Around midnight, her cell phone began ringing urgently, resounding in the quiet room. Rosiley was so startled that she sat bolt upright at once.
“I’ll get it.” Sachin said softly, also sitting up. Then, he got out of bed and picked up the phone.
An anxious voice came from the other end of the line. “Miss Tang, your father is receiving emergency treatment. Could you come to the hospital right now?”
Sachin’s expression suddenly turned somber. He said to the person on the phone, “We’ll come over at once.” Then, he put down the phone.
Rosiley on the bed turned and looked at him, frowning slightly. She complained, very much displeased, “Who’s that, calling in the dead of the night? Doesn’t he realize that he’s disturbing us?”
Sachin looked at her and thought for a moment. Then, he said, “Rosiley, that was from the hospital. I don’t know what has happened to your dad, but he’s receiving emergency treatment right now.”
Rosiley started. “What did you say?”
“Something has happened to your father.”
His words immediately sobered Rosiley’s groggy mind. Without giving herself time to think, she jumped out of bed and ran to the dressing room.
Sachin quickly went after her.
In the early hours of morning, a silver-gray Maybach was speeding on the road to the municipal hospital. Rosiley turned and gazed outside the window, her expression grave. She was wringing her hands uneasily on her lap.
Sachin turned and glanced at her. Then, he reached out to hold her hand, tightening his grasp. He whispered consolingly to her, “Your dad will be fine.”
Rosiley turned her head and jerked the corner of her lips. She said nothing.
The doctor had said that her father’s bodily functions were recovering well, although he was still in a coma. As long as they sent him overseas to receive systematic treatment, he should be able to regain consciousness.
Yet now, something unexpected had happened. She was in great trepidation, as fear and uneasiness ate away at her heart.
Her mother had passed away when she was very young. An orphan without a mother, she could not afford to lose her father as well.
On the way to the hospital, Sachin had been holding her hand firmly, comforting her without words and giving her the strength to continue.
The car stopped at the entrance of the hospital building. Sachin and Rosiley got out of the car and ran in.
