But the only response he got was the woman’s even breathing. He helplessly kissed the corner of her lips, then closed his sharp eyes and slowly fell asleep.
The morning sunlight filled every corner of the bedroom.
On the large bed, the man slowly opened his eyes and stared at the person in his arms. His long fingers gently traced the peaceful and serene face of the woman, a strange sense of tranquility rising in his heart.
Sylvia’s delicate face rested on her hand, her fair cheeks imprinted with cute red marks from her sleeping position.
Franklin’s thin lips parted as he tried to wake the still-sleeping woman. “Baby, it’s time to get up. Don’t you have work today?”
Seeing the woman open her sleepy eyes at his call, still not fully awake, Franklin couldn’t resist wanting to kiss her adorable face.
As she sat up, the thin blanket slowly slid down, revealing her barely covered body, making the man’s eyes darken.
“Baby, you’re awake?”
Sylvia came to her senses and, feeling the man’s wolfish gaze, instinctively wrapped the blanket around herself. “Yes, I’m a bit hungry.”
Her stomach growled in hunger.
She touched her stomach and pointed to the nearby pajamas. “Can you get them for me?”
Franklin chuckled and stroked his chin. “What part of your body haven’t I seen?”
Sylvia glared at him. “Hurry up!”
Franklin laughed and handed her the pajamas. She quickly put them on and went to the bathroom to freshen up.
The scorching gaze followed her until she closed the door.
After washing up, she found a long sweater from the closet that covered her hips, paired it with woolen shorts and sheer tights, and wore Martin boots, making her legs look straight and long-a perfect “missing lower half” outfit.
With a light touch of makeup, her face looked tender and fair. Franklin’s eyes darkened; he didn’t want anyone else to see such a beautiful woman.
He walked over and wrapped his arms around her waist. “Wife…”
He lowered his head and kissed her boldly.
Sylvia pushed him away but he only released her after a while. Satisfied, he looked at her flushed face and lightly wiped the lipstick from his lips with a seductive gesture.
Sylvia gritted her teeth in anger. “I’m going to be late.”
Franklin chuckled softly and half-embraced her as they headed to the garage.
He settled her in the passenger seat and looked at her swollen lips from his kiss. Gently rubbing them with his thumb, he leaned in for another kiss.
Seeing Sylvia leaning against his shoulder with a blush on her face, he finally buckled her seatbelt and started the sleek car towards the hospital.
Sylvia sat in the passenger seat, reapplying her lipstick and tidying her slightly messy hair. She glared at him angrily. “It’s rush hour now. If you make me late, I won’t be nice to you!”
Franklin couldn’t help but laugh. Sylvia looked at the domineeringly handsome man in front of her with dissatisfaction. “Did you hear what I said?”
The man reached out with one hand and gently held her chin. “I heard you, my dear wife.”
He smiled happily at Sylvia before looking ahead again. “But… what will you do to me?”
Sylvia squinted her eyes. “You’ll find out then.”
Franklin’s smile deepened unconsciously.
Before getting out of the car, he handed Sylvia a delicate box he had shown her before. “I wanted to give this to you earlier. Now it’s yours.”
Sylvia remembered the suspense from a few nights ago.
She wasn’t curious anymore but still opened it out of courtesy.
Inside was a pair of small earrings, but they didn’t look like ordinary ones.
Though adorned with diamonds that sparkled brilliantly, she knew Franklin wouldn’t go through so much trouble for ordinary diamond earrings.
“These are communicators. I remember you had a similar pair before, but they were outdated. This is the latest model developed by MI6.” Franklin personally put the earrings on Sylvia. “I’ve set them up for you. Just press once to contact me or Jasper. They have other functions you can explore.”
Sylvia smiled. “I like them very much.”
Franklin watched her smile, feeling as if she radiated a dazzling light that deeply attracted him.
His gaze lingered on her greedily, his chiseled features fixed on her as he kissed her red lips again before reluctantly letting go.
“I have a lot to do today.” Franklin released her reluctantly. “Call me if you need anything.”
Sylvia watched him leave before entering the hospital.
As she walked, she thought about the DNA test results that were due today…
She didn’t return to the hematology office or even sign in; she went straight to the lab.
Entering, she asked a colleague directly, “Are the DNA test results for Jenna and me out? And for her and the Hipps Family…”
“Dr. Sylvia, they’re out.” The colleague handed her several reports. “You two are not related.”
“Not related?” Sylvia was stunned, finding it strange.
She remembered how Clare faced various obstacles when doing DNA tests before. Luckily, Clare was smart and did several tests.
Now… she couldn’t help but look suspiciously at this colleague who seemed unfamiliar. She picked up the reports without showing any emotion. “If we’re not related, so be it.”
The colleague nonchalantly left the lab while Sylvia quickly took some blood samples from Jenna and Clare and put them in her bag.
Meanwhile, that colleague went to a secluded restroom to make a call. “Yes, I gave her the fake report as instructed. Don’t worry.”
“When will I get the remaining money?”
“Okay, okay. I understand. I’ll resign immediately.”
The colleague hung up and walked out of the restroom nonchalantly but was startled to see Sylvia standing at the door.
He jumped in fright. “Ah! Dr. Sylvia, what are you doing here?”
Sylvia smirked at him. “Didn’t expect this, did you? Taking money to deceive me?”
His heart skipped a beat-she had heard everything?
He forced an awkward smile. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Hmph.” Sylvia sneered and turned to leave.
Luckily, she had taken blood samples; now she needed to find another testing center.
After all, she had just started working at this hospital and couldn’t stay in the lab waiting for results all day.
She needed a safe place since there might be more informants like this man in the hospital.
When she returned to hematology, sign-in time had already passed.
Sabrina sneered at her. “Oh dear, someone’s late. Shouldn’t there be a penalty?”
“The penalty is cleaning toilets for three days,” one of Sabrina’s sycophants quickly added.
“So… Dr. Sylvia, why don’t you start cleaning now?” Sabrina laughed gleefully.
Sylvia found their gloating faces extremely annoying.
Jenna’s situation already upset her; these people were like crows cawing incessantly.
She spat out two words coldly: “Shut up!”
Then she sat down expressionlessly at her desk and started looking up information on her computer.
“Who does she think she is? She deserves punishment for being late.”
“Yeah, why so arrogant?”
Sabrina pretended to be magnanimous. “Oh well, let the director handle punishments; we’re just meddling.”
“Dr. Sabrina, you’re too generous, unlike some people.”
“Yeah, don’t bother with her. Some people can’t even take a joke.”
Sylvia sat at her desk without expression; she was stunningly beautiful even in profile.
Especially today with her outfit making her legs look incredibly attractive.
Several male doctors occasionally stole glances at her.
No doubt about it-she was gorgeous.
Too bad she had offended Sabrina.
Otherwise, they might have tried flirting with her.
Unaware of these scheming colleagues, Sylvia kept busy.
During lunch break, she grabbed her bag and went to another testing center in a remote area where few people went for tests-almost bankrupt according to online reviews.
That’s why she chose it-to avoid attention.
If this test didn’t work out, she’d have to guard the hospital lab herself next time to ensure accurate results.
After submitting the samples, she left.
She took a cab back to her hospital without eating lunch.
She bought some fast food at the hospital entrance and ate a few bites before returning.
Rushing back to sign in just thirty seconds before time ran out.
Sabrina sneered again. “If you were late again at noon, you’d be cleaning toilets for a week.”
“Dr. Sabrina,” Sylvia retorted coldly, “instead of worrying about tardiness penalties, why not focus on your patients? After all… not every patient has a dedicated attending physician like me running tests daily.”
“You!” Sabrina’s face turned red-she hadn’t attended any patients yet… Sylvia’s words were a slap in her face.
Sylvia didn’t want to engage but couldn’t ignore Sabrina’s constant provocations.
