Nebraska moved down the hall. She was grateful for her good memory, something that had developed, even more for her lack of sight, so finding the place where she was going was a matter of time. Behind her she heard the footsteps of Layan and shortly after Hades, who apparently had dressed because the sound of the cloth on his skin was in force.
She was still amazed at herself being able to deal with two alphas, and not just two alphas, two that were so many years older that she dared not remember them. When she had joined Rudoc the situation had been able to control her to a point, but the peak of the summit had been due to being closed for so long. So many years in captivity had changed her so much that she scared herself. Now she no longer had the fear and indecision that she hid behind his serious face. Now she had a family to care for and for whom hse would not hesitate to put her hands on the fire.
She stopped in front of the huge door and took a deep breath. She hoped she wasn’t wrong. She hoped Layan was by her side.
-I don’t know what runs through your mind but I hope you have good news-
-Open it, trust me, I never fail my word, I also have someone who is waiting for me- she pointed with his head on his shoulder to the wolf who seemed paler this time but stood firm.
Layan opened the door and Hades frowned at the scent that came from within. He approached Nebraska and, grabbing her arm, drew her towards him, until her back touched his chest.
-You won’t go in there, it’s dangerous- His arm wrapped around her small waist protectively.
Layan didn’t say anything, just waited. When she perished, the only one who could dominate the other alpha was in her own hands, so she would wait for her to work her magic.
Nebraska caressed the arm that imprisoned her from elbow to wrist delicately, running through each vein and tendon that was marked by tension until it reached her fingers.
-Hades, I’ll be fine, I’ve already been in there and nothing happened to me- she blatantly lied- It will only be a moment-
-No- his voice echoed in his chest – what is inside there is lethal, I will not let you submit to that danger-
Nebraska raised her head back to rest on his chest and stretched her palm up to his cheek. The wolf looked at her with narrowed eyes full of concern. Even if he didn’t say it, she was afraid that something would happen to her.
-Am I so weak alpha? – He spoke slowly and calmly -You chose me to be your queen for a reason, if I don’t do this, if I don’t keep my word, how can I look at your face-
-You don’t have to show me anything, you’re already strong enough for me and my pack-
She smiled caressing his lower lip with her finger, something she found she liked, despite being dry from the days of heat, they still felt nice under her touch.
-Not enough-
The arm that held her trembled and closing his eyes Hades released her, surrendering. He had realized, long ago that even though he was the alpha, he was losing against her, and his zeal had been the trigger to realize it, as his emotions were on the surface. When they returned, he would show her how much he cared.
Nebraska broke away from him and nodded to Layan who had admired the scene with some envy, to let her pass.
-You stay out here- the wolves tensed and opened their mouths to claim -If they are there, she can get upset and I need to concentrate, too- she pointed with her finger to her partner- I don’t think Leila will come with him watching every step I take. –
And finishing to say that she entered. He only heard them talking to each other before the door closed.
-Leila, said Leila? Doesn’t she …-
-It’s a long story- Layan replied wearily.
Nebraska walked around the room this time totally dark. It wasn’t that she needed light, that was better, the different mists only hindered her. She sharpened her hearing until she heard her. The she-wolf sitting up after listening to her. This time she didn’t seem as aggressive as before, she was calmer, even so, the omega sensed the madness inside her.
She took a few steps forward. She let out two of her claws and cut her arm deeply making sure the blood spurted out in large quantities. She didn’t move when she punctured the beast running toward her, pushing her to the ground and burying its fangs in her wounded arm. That was what she wanted.
Nebraska swallowed a groan of pain and just sat on the floor as her blood was consumed. The door swung open, letting in the sludge that had been alarmed at the thunderous sound and bristled at the image.
-Stay away- she ordered without turning her head. His attention was only focused on her attacker and as she was decreasing his strength little by little as well as the suction.
-Nebraska- Hades called her ready to turn to go in search but she shook her head.
-Almost, don’t interfere- her voice sounded pleased and she smiled when the teeth released her arm and the animal’s head fell limp on her lap.
Nebraska let out a loud sigh and with her good hand she caressed the wolf’s head, speaking in a low voice, using her ability more easily. Little by little the hairy body was losing all trace of fur, its limbs became longer and its face was retracted, revealing the fractions of a young and thin girl. She had done it, she had brought Leila back, and her blood had been the conduit for it. Something new that she discovered about herself.
Layan ran to her side and lifted the girl off of her and cradled her in his arms.
-Leila, Leila- he called her without an answer, but after checking her pulse he breathed calmly and hugged her. Without being able to contain it, two tears crossed her face- Thank you- her voice came out trembling without losing the hint of joy- Thank you-
Nebraska smiled imagining the image as two hands grabbed her waist and pressed her against a solid body. Hades didn’t speak, but his scent hinted to Nebraska that he was equally worried, annoyed, and relieved. He separated and took off the shirt he was wearing to roll it up in his hand and hugged her again, burying his face in her neck.
His entire body trembled slightly. She raised her arms and ran them along his back and he had to hold back a groan. Despite the situation, her body reacted to the reciprocal touch by intensifying her emotions. It felt delicious to surround that solid body and that despite the cold of his skin it gave him warmth. He didn’t care that someone else was there, he stroked every muscle from the nape of his neck to the narrow waist where he couldn’t move any further along the hem of his pants.
He smelled the skin on his chest where his face was buried and suddenly stopped. Hades’s heartbeat had become weaker and her body no longer moved, that made her come out of all nebulae.
-Hades? – She called without getting an answer- Hades- called him with more force even alarming Layan.
But the alpha did not respond. His body shifted from Nebraska’s arms until he fell to the ground, unconscious.
