Caesar, the head doctor of the silver pack, checked his patient in the painfully furrowed brow as he uttered silent curses from time to time.
-How is she? – Hades was keeping a distance somewhat anxious without news for a long time.
-Not alpha now, let me finish my work- he blurted out more abruptly than he wanted, discarding his pent-up anger -Please come out-
Hades just nodded and left the room to meet the bitter face of Nicolas and Liam who despite the bandages on his body had insisted on being there.
He was not bothered by Caesar’s tone. The wolf was almost 300 years above him, he had even helped bring him to this world and he knew that for him to react in that way, the situation was beyond his understanding. He groaned internally feeling the rage creeping through his being.
He still remembered the feeling of the bones on the woman’s skin as he carried her in his arms, her uneven breathing, he had barely seen her face under the mat of dirty and matted hair. Seeing the sheet dye red, by areas, almost drives him out of control. Not in his most violent outbursts could he put a finger up to a woman like that, not he or anyone in his pack. The last wolf to try had lost its right claw.
-How are she feeling?- Nicolas pulled him out of his thoughts. He seemed uneasy, ready to enter the room at any moment.
-We have to wait for Cesar to finish treating her, he never gives a forecast until we are sure-
The youngest trembled with helplessness.
-You will have to wait puppy, I trusted with my life in him. In his hands, his mother will be fine-
Nicolas did not seem to be reassured by that, when he had found out about the deal his brothers had made, he had almost exploded with indignation. He didn’t remember the words he’d said, but Liam had had to go inside to get them out, while Rodrigo unexpectedly stayed with them. Now he regretted his outburst and wanted to apologize, but first he had to know his mother’s condition to think with a blank mind. The terrified face of his brothers was a very heavy charge of conscience.
The sound of two people running reached them and they looked up to see Alan and Noa coming towards them. They stopped at a distance when they saw Nicolas and lowered their heads. Leoxi followed them closely, taking care of their back, after all they were still children of the alpha of another pack, specifically, an enemy, and although things had changed and the fusion was close, some wolves might not agree with their presence in the main mansion.
Hades separated from the door and approached them seeing the family atmosphere so tense.
-Our mother? – Alan asked impatiently
She is fine, the doctor is checking her.
-Can we see her?- Noa looked on the verge of tears.
-Not for the moment, go back to the room, when we know your condition we will communicate to you- I did not want you to be there when the doctor spoke, I knew that the results of your treatment would not be pleasant and those boys were not prepared.
-But …- they protested until Hades raised a hand to silence them.
-Nicolas- he called him with an authoritative voice- Go with them and by the way do what you have pending- he noticed the wolf getting uncomfortable- I don’t like unnecessary conflicts in my pack-
The minor attended and passed by his siblings who later followed him at a distance, they understood his brother’s reaction, they only hoped that he would not yell at them again, it was the first time he had done it and they did not want that episode to be repeated in the future.
Almost an hour later Cesar opened the door and let the alpha in, followed by his twin brother and Liam.
All three gasped when they saw her on the bed. The grime from her body had been wiped away exposing her discolored skin where pale veins were even visible. The bones are marked in her cheekbones, clavicle, hands and where else. Lips cracked to pain and hair that was once dark was streaked with multiple platinum strands.
The doctor had bandaged part of his arms where previously infested wounds decorated the skin, as well as a white cloth rested over his eyes.
-I’m afraid to say that this wolf is on the verge of death-
