She saw a strange man walk out. He had an ordinary-looking face and a rather lean figure, but he carried himself with an aura of ominous menace.
This man is very dangerous!
Rorey knitted her brows, watching the man with guarded, probing eyes.
There was another man in the house. How could she not have detected it?
The man walked up and gave Rorey a nod. Then, he looked at Xenia Zhao. “What do you need me to do?”
Xenia Zhao turned and look at Uncle Zhao lying at the foot of the stairs. “Li Wu, dispose of his body.”
Li Wu followed the direction of her gaze and his eyes shone a little.
Xenia Zhao looked back at him and said, “What? Don’t you guys do this sort of thing often? Are you afraid?”
Li Wu withdrew his eyes and threw her a cold glance. Then, he turned and descended the stairs.
He could hear the sarcasm in Xenia Zhao’s voice, but so what? What she said was true. They had indeed disposed of a lot of bodies.
So he had no reason to refute her.
“Mom, who is that man?” When Li Wu moved Uncle Zhao’s body fearlessly, Rorey’s brows knitted even tighter together. She now found Li Wu to be an even more complicated man.
“You don’t have to worry about who he is, just remember that he will help you with whatever you do in the future.” Xenia Zhao was hiding Li Wu’s identity because she did not want her daughter to know who her real father was.
“But… ” Rorey still wanted to ask more, but Xenia Zhao’s severe tone cut her off. “Enough. No more questions!”
Rorey was instantly stunned, her eyes full of disbelief. This must be the first time her mother had spoken so harshly to her.
Her cold, stern face terrified her. She felt like the woman before her was so different, almost like a complete stranger.
Seeing her daughter stare at her, Xenia Zhao realized that she had overreacted. She quickly calmed down and adopted a more composed demeanor. Her tone also softened. “Rorey, Mom is just afraid you will feel mentally burdened if you know too much. Then, you won’t act. You don’t need to ask so much about certain things. Just be bold, and do what you want.”
Rorey stared at her intently for a while before nodding. “Okay, Mom.”
As soon as her voice faded, she turned her head and looked downstairs. Li Wu and Uncle Zhao were no longer there. There was only a pool of blood on the floor, looking particularly crimson and horrific under the lights.
Rorey was so scared that she quickly withdrew her eyes. She said hastily to Xenia Zhao, “I’m going back to my room.” Then, she turned and strode away.
When Li Wu moved Uncle Zhao, he found him still breathing.
He was frequently involved in massacres and violence, and his hands had been stained with the blood of countless murder victims. However, in the instant he saw Uncle Zhao’s pained, pale face, he suddenly felt compassion.
Perhaps it was because of what his big brother had said to him.
“Li Wu, we almost died on many occasions over the years, yet we have always managed to survive. We’ve built up our influence step by step, but now I feel really tired. I can’t throw away my life like when I was young, aiming to kill whenever I took up my knife. I’m really tired of this sort of life. If I could reverse time, I would surely choose to be an ordinary man and live an ordinary life.”
His expression had carried a hint of nostalgia when he said this.
At that time, he still did not know his big brother’s past. It was not until he saw Xenia Zhao that he realized that his big brother had a relationship once and fathered a daughter.
He could understand the yearning on his big brother’s face, and what he missed.
He also thought of his own aged parents. Ever since he had trodden on this criminal path of no return, he had not dared to meet them, afraid of bringing them trouble.
He had not seen them for years. They must be around the same age as Uncle Zhao.
His heart trembled, and he turned the steering wheel. The car spun around and headed for the municipal hospital.
If he could, he would like to save people, not kill them.
