Chapter 63

Book:Rose & Thorn: The Perfect Duo Published:2024-9-23

Matthew is seated on the plush couch, meticulously cleaning his sidearm while he patiently awaits Damian’s arrival. His lithe frame is relaxed, leaning back into the soft cushions, while his hands fluidly work the cloth against the gun’s gleaming steel.
Eyes intermittently flicking up to glance at the television screen. The silence of the room is abruptly shattered by the rhythmic echo of approaching footsteps, causing Matthew’s attention to immediately shift.
“Good morning, sweetie,” Matthew greets, his voice a rich velvet, a hint of a smile playing at the corner of his lips as he glances towards her.
Before he could continue, Melody promptly leaps onto the couch beside him, her sudden arrival eliciting an unintentional flinch from Matthew, “What are you-” his words interrupted as her palms were swiftly pressed against his mouth, effectively muffling any further speech.
“Shh,” she whispers, her voice a soft, intimate hush, “I have something important to tell you.”
Matthew gently removes her hands from his mouth, his eyebrows furrowing in suspicion.
“Why are we whispering? It’s not as if anyone else is here,” he queries, his eyes narrowing slightly, searching her for any hint of what could require such secrecy.
Melody, casting furtive glances around the room, ensuring that no one else could overhear, turns back to him.
“I’m sure, this is… confidential,” she murmurs, her voice dropping to the softest whisper. Matthew’s expression becomes increasingly puzzled, his brows drawing together in a deepening frown.
He studies her intently, a flicker of concern in his gaze. “Is everything alright, sweetie?” he asks, his voice laced with a mixture of curiosity and growing worry.
“Okay… you promise you won’t freak out, okay?” Melody’s tone is resolute, her voice unwavering.
Matthew cocks an eyebrow, a mixture of intrigue and apprehension on his face. “Freak out?” He questions, his voice tinged with a hint of disbelief.
He looks at her dubiously, contemplating the gravity of their impending conversation. “Is it something that could lead me to freak out?” He asks, a mixture of confusion and concern in his voice.
“I bet it could,” Melody responds, her eyes firmly fixed on him, holding his gaze with an intensity that leaves him no choice but to pay attention.
Matthew’s surprise is evident as he arches an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued, “Am I going to freak out like I did when I didn’t know I could cum more than 10 times?” he queries, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
Melody’s initial reaction is one of horror mixed with fascination, “Yes.” She nods, her voice trembling slightly. “Wait-what?” she exclaims, her eyes widening in shock.
“Yeah, I did freak out seeing it come out,” Matthew chuckles, his smirk widening into a small grin. He leans in closer to her, his voice dropping to a low whisper. “Do you want to know how?” He asks, eagerly wanting to fill her in on his recent discovery.
“No, thank you,” Melody shakes her head quickly, her face betraying a mixture of slight disgust and profound curiosity.
“I think it best I pretend I didn’t hear that,” she clears her throat, attempting to refocus the conversation, “Come on focus. You have to listen to me!”
He sensing her unease, leans back into the comforts of the couch, his smile disappearing as he nods, allowing her to continue.
“I’m sorry if I say this, you might felt like Damian is betrayed or lying to you this whole life,” she sighs.
He caught off guard by the sudden revelation, reacts with disbelief, his expression a mix of surprise and scepticism.
“What are you talking about?” He replies, his frustration palpable.
“Damian… is pregnant,” Melody declares, her voice steady and firm.
Matthew’s face registers no reaction, his expression unchanged as he processes the words.
“What?” He replies simply, the words leaving his mouth in a bewildered whisper.
“You heard me,” she repeats, stressing each syllable, “Damian is pregnant.”
His face remains impassive, his mind working to absorb the information. He pinches the bridge of his now, taking a moment to collect his thoughts.
“Mel, sweetie,” he begins, his voice laden with doubt. “Let me make sure I understood this correctly.”
“You are saying… Damian, Damian D’ Angelo… that man is pregnant?” He confirms, his words tinged with disbelief.
Melody growing increasingly impatient with his reaction, answered with a firm nod,
“Yes. How many times do I have to repeat it?”
Matthew pauses for a moment, his expression unreadable. He stares at her, still struggling to process the information before suddenly bursting into laughter. The living room fills with the sound of his hearty laughter as he clutches his stomach.
Tears streaming down his face. Melody watches with a mix of annoyance and surprise as he laughs hysterically, struggling to catch his breath amid his fit of laughter.
“Oh gosh, Mel…” he manages to say between laughs, “I’m sorry… it’s just too funny!!”
He gasps for breath, unable to contain his amusement, as he falls off the couch, writhing on the floor with laughter.
“What so funny? I’m being serious here,” Melody huffs, her arms crossed defiantly.
Matthew looks up at her, his laughter echoing around the room, “I’m sorry… I just can’t… I can’t stop laughing!!”
Melody grumbles in frustration. “Mat, this is serious! Damian might be pregnant!” She insists, her patience wearing thin.
Matthew tries to control his laughter, taking a deep breath and wiping away tears of mirth.
“I know… I know…” he gasps. “It just… the thought of Damian being pregnant…” he laughs again, unable to contain himself.
“Mel, why on earth would you say that?” Matthew chuckles. “Are you sure you didn’t knock your head? Because Damian is a man.”
She huffs, “I didn’t hit my head!! He probably… you know… changed his gender or something,” Melody whispers, her voice quiet, “It’s not a bad thing.”
Matthew laughs even harder, gasping for air as he falls onto his back on the floor. He is struggling to contain his laughter. Melody watches him, rolling her eyes.
“Seriously, stop….” he gasps, finally composing himself enough to sit up.
“Why do you think that way?” He asks, trying to regain his composure.
She shrugs, “I found a pregnancy test under his pillow. I mean, what else could it be?”
Matthew pauses. Pregnancy test? He remembers the conversation with Damian earlier. Wait. Did Damian take Victor’s words seriously? A wave of amusement washed over him, and he couldn’t help but chuckle in disbelief.
“Mel, you’re just misunderstanding,” Matthew sighs, standing up. “That pregnancy test isn’t for him.”
“Then who’s it for?” She asks.
Matthew is about to answer but the timing presence of Damian interrupts him. Damian appears in a black tight tank top and black jeans, his usual stoic expression in place as he adjusts the gloves on his hands.
“I heard laughing from upstairs. What’s so funny here?” He inquires, his eyes fixed on them.
“You wouldn’t believe it buddy,” Matthew grins, unable to hide his amusement. “Your wife here thinks that you’re pregnant.”
Damian’s stoic expression turns to confusion. “What the fuck?” He exclaims, furrowing his eyebrows. “I’m a man; you know that, right?” He turns his gaze to Melody.
“It’s true!” Melody persists, “You are pregnant, right?”
Damian’s head snaps towards her, a fierce frown on his face, “Where on earth did you get that idea, Mel?” He asks sharply.
“She said you probably changed your gender or something,” Matthew bursts out with a small laugh.
Damian looks flabbergasted, his usual stoic demeanour cracking, “What the heck….?” He looks bewildered.
“It… not?” She softly asks.
“OF COURSE IT NOT MELODY D’ ANGELO!!!”
___
They are all settled in the living room. Melody fidgets with her fingers, feeling guilty for her previous thoughts about Damian. How could she have been so foolish?
Damian sits on the couch, legs crossed, his gaze fixed firmly on her as Matthew struggles to contain his laughter. Melody looks like a child being scolded.
“So, you’re saying you found the pregnancy test under my pillow?” Damian asks, his tone stern.
“Yes,” she nods, admitting her guilt. “I wasn’t trying to invade your personal space, but it just happened.”
“It’s fine,” Damian reassures her, although his expression remains firm. “I should have told you about it sooner.”
Melody’s confusion is evident, “That you’re pregnant?” she asks.
He clenches his jaw, his frustration evident, “No, Mel. What I’m saying is, I should have told you sooner that the pregnancy test is for you.”
She blinks, taken aback. The test is for her? She’s not even sure what to make of this revelation.
Melody can only manage a chuckle, “No, I’m not-you’re joking?”
“I’m not,” Damian replies firmly, “We’re not sure yet, but with all the symptoms you’ve been experiencing, don’t you think you should check?”
Melody knows he’s right. She’s been feeling different lately but hasn’t wanted to accept it, considering the magnitude of the charge.
“I… don’t know…” she mumbles, feeling overwhelmed by the conversation.
“Mel,” Damian starts but is cut off as she abruptly stands up.
“I need to go,” she declares. “I have to open my bakery.”
Without another word, Melody leaves through the front door, leaving Damian and Matthew alone in the room.
Damian lets out a heavy sigh, his expression weary. He had expected such a reaction from her. Matthew shifts awkwardly in his seat, trying to break the uneasy silence.
“Well,” he begins, “It looks like you’ll just have to give her some time.”
