Sylvia took the flowers handed to her by her sister with a gentle smile, “Thank you.”
Her sister in front of her was small, fair, and delicate, smiling like a soft cotton ball.
Sylvia’s heart softened as she looked at her.
She picked up her sister and placed her on her lap, starting to sing a lullaby, “Rock-a-bye baby, on the treetop.”
“Rock-a-bye baby, on the treetop,” her sister’s tender voice sang along.
Sylvia’s heart melted into a puddle, “You sing so beautifully.”
But soon, the scene shifted to the news of her sister and mother’s car accident. Otto told her that both her sister and mother had passed away.
She fell to the floor, crying in pain. She was so young back then, and her sister was even younger… they were gone… her mother was gone too.
“Ah! Mom! Sister!” she cried out in pain!
In the present moment, Sylvia slowly opened her eyes, looking at the ceiling of her bedroom. A tear rolled down her cheek.
She had dreamt of her mother and sister.
Her sister had disappeared from this world when she was so young.
Her sister…
She sighed with sadness in her heart.
“What’s wrong?” Franklin reached out his long arm and pulled her into his embrace, asking softly.
“It’s nothing, just had a dream about my sister,” Sylvia wiped away the tears from her eyes. She rarely dreamt of her mother and sister, but for some reason, she dreamt of her younger sister this time.
“Is it almost the anniversary of your mother and sister’s passing?” Franklin looked at her with confusion, a hint of tenderness in his deep eyes.
“No… I don’t know why, it just feels strange,” Sylvia suppressed her sadness and casually looked at him, “It’s already seven o’clock, let’s get up. I have to go to work at the hospital.”
“Alright. I’ll drive you there,” Franklin hugged her again before letting go.
Sylvia got out of bed and went to the bathroom to freshen up. Franklin ordered takeout from a nearby breakfast place.
By the time Sylvia finished getting ready and changed into clean clothes, the steaming hot breakfast had already been placed on the table.
Franklin was setting the table when he looked up and saw her walking towards him. She was wearing a light yellow sweater that complemented her fair skin. She had a camel-colored coat draped over her slender arms, which she casually hung on the coat rack by the entrance before sitting down at the table.
“It’s cold outside, and it’s been drizzling. You should dress warmer today,” Franklin glanced at the window where raindrops pattered on the leaves. The weather was getting colder.
“Okay.”
Actually, he wasn’t afraid of the cold, but he didn’t want Sylvia to worry about his health.
After finishing breakfast, he went back to the bedroom and grabbed a cashmere coat. The navy blue coat wrapped around his tall figure, accentuating his broad shoulders and narrow waist. He looked more stylish than the models on the runway.
Sylvia raised an eyebrow at him, “Handsome!”
But he approached her step by step, pressing her against the cabinet near the entrance. “Wife, kiss me.”
“No.”
“Then I’ll kiss you.” His thin lips lightly brushed against hers. “Mmm, so sweet.”
“Let go! I have to go to work, or I’ll be late,” Sylvia pushed his strong chest. Franklin chuckled and stopped teasing her.
The two of them left the house together and arrived at the garage. The car smoothly glided out of the villa area. Raindrops drummed on the car window, leaving behind winding streams.
Eight o’clock in the morning.
Sylvia arrived at the hospital on time. After signing in at her department, she went to the laboratory. Perhaps encouraged by Clare and Maritza Hipps’ results from yesterday, she felt particularly energetic today.
“Yesterday, I found that there was a high compatibility between Hipps Family members and Jenna. So today, let’s focus on doing the compatibility tests for Hipps Family members first to see if there are any successful matches. Clare’s results yesterday reached as high as five points.”
“Really?” Sylvia’s colleagues in the laboratory were amazed.
“Yes, can’t you believe it?” Sylvia smiled and sat down at her seat.
One doctor said, “You have a good relationship with Jenna and Wright Residence. It seems like you have a special connection with Hipps Family.”
Sylvia casually replied, “I feel the same way.”
Everyone started working busily. The compatibility results for Hipps Family members were quickly produced.
There were three-point matches, two-point matches, four-point matches…
But none reached five points.
Not even a six-point match.
Sylvia felt disappointed. “Is there anyone else whose compatibility hasn’t been tested?”
“Dr. Sylvia, it seems like you’re also a member of Hipps Family. How about… we test yours too?” A doctor held up Sylvia’s sample.
Sylvia’s sample was taken later than Hipps Family members’. They were one of the first batches to come for compatibility testing.
So they were being tested in order of arrival.
“Yes, Dr. Sylvia, let’s move yours forward and test it now. Who knows? Maybe yours will match!” A nurse also suggested.
Sylvia nodded in agreement. “Alright then, let’s test mine.”
After that, everyone focused on their work again.
Lunchtime came quickly. Sylvia and her colleagues went to the hospital cafeteria to eat together. She bought a quick meal to finish quickly and return to monitor the results.
However, what she didn’t expect was that as soon as she sat down and took a bite of her food, the doctor on duty in the laboratory called urgently and excitedly. His voice carried urgency and excitement over the phone, “It’s a success! The compatibility is a match! Dr. Sylvia!”
Sylvia almost choked on her rice. “What happened? Slow down.”
“Your compatibility with Jenna is nine points! Bone marrow transplantation is possible.” Her colleague’s voice came through the phone, leaving Sylvia stunned. “Mine and Jenna’s compatibility? Nine points? How is that possible?”
She found it hard to believe.
“Yes, yes! Finish your meal quickly and come back to see the results.”
Her colleague hung up without waiting for a response.
Sylvia couldn’t focus on eating anymore. She picked up her lunchbox and hurried towards the laboratory.
Her heart was pounding wildly. She walked hastily, not even responding to other colleagues who greeted her along the way.
Nine points!
A perfect nine points!
How could that be?
Her colleagues in the laboratory were printing out the results when they heard the door being pushed open with a bang. In the next second, a tall figure had already barged in.
He looked up in astonishment as he saw Sylvia put down her lunchbox and hurriedly approached to take the results.
Her fair fingers held onto the results tightly as she stared at the words on them with watery eyes.
“It really is nine points…”
“I want to do a DNA test. I must do it; it can’t be just a coincidence.”
She murmured to herself. She suddenly looked up at her wide-eyed colleague who was staring at her. In her heart, she had a bold guess-maybe… last night’s dream about her sister wasn’t just a coincidence…
She took a deep breath. “I want to do a DNA test immediately-right now.”
“Oh… okay.” Their hospital could also perform this type of test; paternity tests and such.
“My uncle Clare should also do one with Jenna,” Sylvia added. Her colleague nodded quickly. “Alright.”
But… with a compatibility of nine points and having Love Parasite in her body, if she were to give Jenna a transplant… Jenna would probably also contract Love Parasite.
Love Parasite wasn’t something to be taken lightly.
Although Love Parasite hadn’t relapsed in over a year, it was like a time bomb that could explode at any moment.
Jenna’s body was already so weak; she wouldn’t be able to withstand an invasion from Love Parasite.
Sylvia gritted her teeth. The younger generation of Hipps Family had all come for testing, but not the older generation.
If Jenna really was… then she would make sure that all members of Hipps Family came for testing to see how it turned out.
Her sister…
Was she not deceased? Was she still alive…
Sylvia covered her face with both hands. Had she been by her side all along?
Mixed emotions surged within her-a taste of indescribable bitterness and anticipation.
Her sister… was she really her sister?
If she was… Sylvia suddenly didn’t know whether to be overjoyed or saddened by it.
Her head buzzed with confusion; only two words kept flashing in her mind: sister, sister!
The DNA results would only be available tomorrow; normally it would take three to one week for such procedures, but since she worked at the hospital, everything would be expedited.
She sat at her desk, unable to regain her composure for a long time.
A concerned colleague approached her cautiously. “Dr. Sylvia, what’s wrong? Aren’t you going to eat your lunch? It’ll get cold if you don’t eat it soon.”
Sylvia finally snapped out of it. “Ah, I won’t eat anymore. I’ve lost my appetite.”
“You have a compatibility of nine points with Jenna; isn’t that great? Are you too excited to eat?” The doctor teased.
A bitter smile flashed across Sylvia’s face; she wished she could immediately test Jenna’s compatibility now but didn’t know if she could go through with it.
Unless it was absolutely necessary, she wouldn’t let Jenna take this risk.
“Do you think Jenna and I look alike?” Sylvia suddenly asked the doctor out of nowhere.
The doctor was taken aback. “Not really. You both have your own unique features. Dr. Sylvia is slightly more attractive though. Of course, Jenna is also beautiful; maybe it’s because of how weak she looks…”
Sylvia smiled without saying anything else and let the doctor return to work.
Her mother had also mentioned when she was young that she didn’t resemble her sister much; her sister resembled their father more.
But… Otto wasn’t their father at all.
Then who did her sister resemble?
Who was their father?
Sylvia felt a headache coming on-why were these relationships so complicated?
She couldn’t focus on work anymore; instead of going back to the laboratory, she walked out and entered an elevator.
Pressing the button for the floor where Jenna’s ward was located, the elevator quickly stopped.
She stepped out through the open doors and walked towards Jenna’s room.
Brayden had left; Mrs. Wright was by Jenna’s side. The girl looked weak as she lay on the hospital bed without any energy; even her gaze seemed lazy.
When Sylvia approached, she forced a smile onto her face. “Sylvia.”
