Callie chuckled; this was exactly what she expected from Regan.
She reassured Tobias, “Don’t worry, I’ll just go in and come right out.”
Regan was engrossed in a game on her phone, moving along with the character on the screen. She didn’t notice Callie entering and sat waiting for her to finish.
Regan looked up instinctively and saw her. She glared, her tone harsh, “What are you doing here?”
Callie smiled, “I came to see you. Thank you for saving me yesterday.”
Regan didn’t want to accept it and looked very displeased. “Get out.”
Callie didn’t move. “I know you hate me, but I still want to thank you for saving me. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what I would have done.”
Regan’s expression grew uglier as she listened. She threw her phone onto the bed, clearly exasperated. “I don’t need your pretentious gratitude. Get out, or I’ll call the bodyguards.”
“If your bodyguards were at the door, I wouldn’t have been able to come in,” Callie said calmly.
Regan then realized that the bodyguards had left at some point, making her even more anxious. “I said I don’t need your thanks, and I don’t like you. I would have helped anyone in that situation, so don’t disgust me.”
Even in anger, the arrogant young lady looked good, despite the annoyance on her face.
“That means you’re a good person. There aren’t many kind young ladies these days.”
Callie was like a piece of cotton; nothing Regan said affected her.
Facing such a Callie, Regan was on the verge of collapse and wanted to strangle her. “Who the hell is a good person? Don’t think you can take advantage of me. I saved you not because I acknowledge you as Nelson’s wife. Know your place.”
Callie pretended not to hear and opened a fruit basket. “Want a banana?”
Regan gave up completely and slumped on the bed. “Don’t disgust me. Get out.”
Callie peeled a banana slowly. “Miss Regan, I owe you a favor for this. If you ever need my help, I’ll be there.”
She placed the banana on the table. “You might think my promise doesn’t mean much, but if you ever need it, try me.” She winked. “Of course, divorcing Nelson is off the table.”
As she closed the door behind her, Regan furiously threw a pillow at it and screamed, “I should never have saved you!”
Regan was an illegitimate child. After the death of the first wife of the Padilla family head, her father brought Regan’s mother into the house when she was ten years old. All of Ylosea knew that this young lady’s title was undeserved.
Before coming, Callie had specifically investigated this.
With such a background, life must not have been easy for her. Callie thought it over and decided to make a promise. She believed that one day she would repay this favor.
In a hurry, she didn’t visit Reuben today and took a cab directly to Scott Group. The receptionist asked her to wait, but she called Jaquan directly. “What are you doing?”
Jaquan seemed surprised and happy to hear her voice. “Why? I heard the Oconnor Group’s annual meeting was a success. Interested in organizing Scott Group’s annual meeting?”
Callie held back her temper. “Where are you?”
Jaquan paused for a moment before answering, “The gym on the 30th floor of Scott Group.”
Callie proceeded without any hindrance.
