MAVERICK
Life had been good. Since Nana was released from the hospital last month, she stopped whining with her private nurse, Adeline. Lake had managed to convince me, meaning he forced me to agree to create a joint account for our future family.
AM and Company, LLC just had a grand inauguration yesterday. Today, marked my first day as a junior financial analyst.
“Good morning, everyone. I know you’re eager to go back to your work. I’m here to say thank you for trusting a startup company, AM and Co. We still have a lot to work on, but I hope to see this group till next year or for another five years.” That was our new CEO, Ben Lucas, in their late thirties but looked smart in his suit. “May I call Mr. Lake Winston our boss.”
Twenty of us applauded Lake in his dark blue suit, and he exuded confidence as he stood beside Ben. He looked at everyone before his gaze landed on me. I chose to stand at the corner with Cooper because I knew he would come to give a short message to everyone.
“Relax, guys. I don’t bite, and I’m not the kind of person who intimidates employees. Literally, you are not my employees. You know what I mean.”
Everyone chuckled while I smiled in silence.
“Before you start working. Well, don’t work hard beyond your wages. That’s what you have in mind, and it’s correct unless you are getting paid for the extra hours. There’s also a small buffet in the cafeteria, and it’s not a bribe, don’t worry. It’s just a way of welcoming you all.” He looked at me. “Don’t be scared of my wife that she might tell me your poor performance. Treat her like your co-employee.”
My face flushed as pairs of eyes were on me.
“What I expect from you is to do your job, be confident at it, don’t be afraid to express your ideas and opinions, and respect everyone around here so you can work in harmony. This may not be a family, at least not yet, but this is a team. That’s all. Thank you.” After his short speech, Ben said we were dismissed, and we spread to our working desks.
Lake went with Ben to the office, and I turned on my computer.
“So, what are you doing here when you can run the company?” Mira, the girl with glasses, asked.
“Because she doesn’t like to be labeled as nepo,” Cooper answered.
I wanted to elbow him. Instead, I replied, “I’m a fresh graduate. I just want to work its way to the top. Running a business takes gut and experience. I don’t have that yet.”
“I admire you. I guess it’s a good start,” she said and quickly went to work on her computer.
Lake suddenly came to us. “How’s your work, Cooper?”
Cooper chuckled nervously. “You’re the boss of my boss. Why am I suddenly nervous?”
“I don’t know. Why are you nervous?”
“In my defense, I went to a proper channel to get the job as a junior accountant. Like everybody else, I’m hired because I’m qualified.”
“Then why are you nervous?” Lake pressed him.
“You’re watching me work, dude.”
Lake laughed, including Mira.
“He just called him dude,” Mira whispered to me.
When Lake turned to me, I stopped typing. “How can I help you, boss?”
“Are you okay here?” he asked calmly.
“First day of work, not so much. I feel all the pressure and have twenty heads to make a good impression.”
“Don’t sweat it, baby.” My face burned. He just called me baby in front of these people, and they definitely heard it, judging by how everyone looked at me. They were not judging but had smiles on their faces, including Ben from his desk. “You’ll be fine. They won’t expect anything bigger from you. They know you’re-”
“A rookie? Or an owner’s wife?”
“Both, but that’s not what I was about to say if you won’t keep on interrupting me.”
“What are you supposed to say?”
He smiled. “You’re gonna do your best, and you’re gonna make us proud.”
“Thanks for the boost of confidence, boss.”
He leaned on my desk, eyes glued at me, and whispered, “You’re not supposed to call me boss here but in bed.”
My eyes grew big. My face flushed, and I felt like I just sweated my armpits. “I think you should go now. I have work to do.”
“Right.” He stood straight and fixed his suit. He looked around at the studio space, the size of an apartment. The office occupied half of the second floor of Infinite Media. “Just a little patience, guys. In four years, we will move to our new building.” Those were his last words before he went downstairs to his office.
At lunch, Cooper and I shared a salad and some fruit.
“You don’t mind, do you?” Mira joined us as well.
“You don’t have to treat her like a celebrity. She hates that,” Cooper replied.
“Ignore him, but true.” I gestured to the empty seat.
“What do you have? It smells good,” asked Cooper.
“Original tacos. My roommate made it.” She opened her paper bag and offered us a piece of her food.
“Are you sure you have some left for you?” I asked as I took it from her.
Cooper didn’t mind, though. He was already biting the mouth-watering taco. “It’s delicious.”
“Thanks.”
I took a bite of mine, and Cooper was right. “Wow. It tastes so good.”
“Her parents are from Mexico,” Mira said, “If you taste her Pozole.” She did with a chef kiss.
“You should take my salad.” I chuckled. “I took it from the buffet.”
“The buffet was good, actually.”
“Yeah.” I looked at everyone, and they seemed to have enjoyed the menu.”
My phone buzzed. I checked for the message. It came from Lake.
LAKE: What are you eating?
MAVERICK: Salad and tacos. Why?
I searched for him in the cafeteria but did not see him until I saw the camera. His reply came in seconds.
LAKE: Don’t work hard. You still have work to do later.
MAVERICK: What do you mean?
LAKE: In our bed.
I quickly covered my phone, and the two stared at me in confusion.
“We know you’re chatting with your husband. What’s the problem if you two flirt, text, or sext?” Cooper asked, making me blush.
“We’re not.”
“Show me then?” Mira offered her hand.
“No.” I pressed my phone to my chest.
Mira and Cooper shared a look and shrugged before they cleaned up their empty plate.
Cooper looked at Mira and said, “I thought so.”

“God!” I let go of a sharp cry as he plunged deep into me. I pushed my ass up as an invitation to fuck me hard, which left me in my vulnerable state, but I trusted him with my body from the start.
He clutched my hips and rocked into me hard and fast. He then eased back. I turned my head to look at him over my shoulder, and he was watching his glistening cock out of me. Then our gazes locked. His eyes glued at me with such intensity, making my whole body seared with excitement.
With a single push of his hips, he was deep in me, thick and long. He released a long and loud groan in satisfaction.
“Fuck, baby.” His voice was hoarse and deep.
“Faster, please?” I begged and whined because it felt so good, and my clit was throbbing as he tunneled me to the hilt.
The moment he worked on his tempo, he rocked into me in steady thrust, taking me towards my bliss.
It didn’t take long, and he joined me in euphoria.
