When Nelson entered the venue, Callie was distributing roses, one to each person. She never looked up, her face looking very tired.
The Oconnor Group’s annual meeting, presided over by Nelson, always caused a stir in the business world. During this time, all Oconnor Group employees felt it was the happiest moment of the year.
It was also at this time that Callie began to understand Nelson’s intention to have her involved in the annual meeting. The busy days allowed her to interact with key personnel from various departments of Oconnor Group. While she might not have fully grasped everything, she had a good understanding of about seventy percent of their responsibilities.
Callie wasn’t sure if this was the result Nelson wanted, but she didn’t think much about it. She seized the opportunity, treated people with respect, and worked diligently. In terms of her image, she left a positive impression on others.
Her efficiency made many people remember that there was someone named Callie at Oconnor Group.
Nelson, dressed in formal attire, entered just as Litzy piled a large bunch of de-thorned roses into Callie’s arms. She looked up and saw the tall man.
Callie was somewhat surprised. She pressed her lips together, unable to believe he had just walked over like that.
Litzy was startled and took a step back. “Mr. Oconnor.”
Nelson wore a black suit today, looking very serious and cold.
Callie reacted quickly, slightly bowed, and handed him a flower. “Mr. Oconnor.”
Her voice was flat.
He took the flower and strode into the venue. From her angle, she saw him give the rose she handed him to an elderly lady who must have held an important position before and attended out of tradition.
The banquet was lavish, combining Western and Eastern cuisines to cater to most employees’ tastes and habits. Callie had put a lot of effort into this, and fortunately, it was well-received.
Before the banquet started, Nelson went on stage to give a speech. He discarded the prepared script by Cora and said a few simple words, which were met with enthusiastic applause. Callie stood in the corner, looking up at the radiant man with no expression on her face.
At that moment, the host boldly stepped forward to ask a few questions. The last question was, “Mr. Oconnor, once a year, will you still not fulfill our female employees’ wish to dance with you this year?”
Nelson smiled faintly, didn’t answer, and raised his wine glass. “Enjoy yourselves.”
After that, Callie didn’t see him again; he was lost in the crowd and couldn’t be found.
She walked around the venue. The banquet occupied the entire eighteenth floor, with not only Oconnor Group employees but also big names from various fields. Whenever someone needed help, she stepped forward.
A colleague called her to indicate she could take a break. Callie walked toward the area Litzy was responsible for and turned around to see a familiar figure.
It was Alayah!
She wore a backless gown and had exquisite makeup. She looked directly at Callie with a clear purpose as if she had followed her all the way.
Callie raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Alayah walked closer step by step, a cold smile on her lips. “Mrs. Oconnor, pleased to meet you.”
“I don’t understand what you’re saying,” Callie squinted slightly.
Alayah took out a pack of cigarettes, lit one, placed it on her lips, and leaned against the wall to smoke. She looked up at Callie. “Don’t rush to deny it. Since I dare to say it, it means I already know.”
She had once been a celebrity and had some resources. Now that Nelson’s marriage news had spread in upper circles, she could naturally find out if she wanted to.
