When that thick stack of manila envelopes was handed to her, Rosalind already had a premonition that she would need to see an ophthalmologist upon returning to the mainland.
“You must review these carefully. Make sure there are no mistakes! If I have time after finishing my tasks, I might help you check them again. If not, we’ll have to submit what you have directly!”
“I understand.”
Rosalind took a deep breath, put on her glasses, and began checking the market research section.
She kept her head down for several hours.
It wasn’t until Ulric and Cedric’s group finished their meeting and came to her room that she took a brief break.
Several unfamiliar colleagues suddenly entered Rosalind’s room, making her feel a bit uneasy. She also worried that someone with sharp eyes might notice she hadn’t slept there the previous night.
But Ulric seemed completely unconcerned about these things. He walked directly over to her, his gaze falling on the pile of documents.
“Just do your best.” For projects like this, there was always a lot of material, and it would be exhausting for her to handle it alone.
“Okay.” Rosalind nodded, deliberately trying to put some distance between them.
No one had thought much of it until he suddenly spoke in a low voice.
“Have you had breakfast?”
“…”
Now Cedric’s gaze also turned towards them! The other managers and assistants behind him also looked over simultaneously.
“Stomach pain will delay work.”
Ulric’s expression was calm, as if showing concern for Rosalind was perfectly natural and everyone else was overreacting.
“I’ll be careful. It won’t delay progress.”
“Good.” He responded softly, then pointed to a spot in the documents with his long fingers. “Here, the R&D funding for Genesis Enterprises is very vague. Reports like these often have underlying issues.”
Rosalind nodded and made a note with her pencil.
Cedric, standing behind them, cleared his throat. “Mr. Walters, I’ll take the managers to my room to summarize the research. Call me if you need anything.”
“Alright.”
With permission granted, Cedric led the others out.
As the door closed, Rosalind finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He looked at her and smiled. “Why are you nervous?”
What do you think?
She forced a smile. “Cedric usually says you never get close to women, but now you’re frequently near me. I’m afraid they’ll get the wrong idea.”
“There’s nothing to misunderstand.”
“…”
Rosalind watched as he calmly unbuttoned his shirt, one button at a time, soon revealing his pale chest.
She looked away, her voice tinged with panic. “What are you doing?”
“Tea spilled on my sleeve during the meeting. I’m changing my shirt.” Ulric began undressing as if it were the most natural thing in the world, making Rosalind seem like she was pretending to be shy.
She could only lower her head, wishing she could bury herself in the documents.
Fortunately, Ulric soon took his change of clothes into the bathroom. Otherwise, Rosalind’s neck and cervical spine issues would have flared up today!
Listening to the sound of running water inside, she rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.
After Ulric’s car accident, he went straight abroad for a business trip. It was clearly an intentional move to distance himself from her and signal an impending contract termination. But why hadn’t he mentioned it since returning?
Could it be that he had another fight with Sirena?
Is that why he returned alone from Sinoington to Fragrant Harbor?
These questions were even more troublesome than verifying the documents! Every time she brought it up, he brushed it off and even started discussing breach penalties!
So what’s going on now?
Is she still not dismissed as a substitute?
