After he finished speaking, it seemed he could no longer stay. He strode out of the hospital room with the authoritative presence typical of doctors, and Tobias was no exception. Callie suddenly called out to him, “Tobias.”
“Hmm?” He turned around.
“The New Year is coming. Do you have a girlfriend? Your mother must be pressuring you a lot.”
Tobias’s eyes dimmed. “Yes, she is.”
“You need to hurry. With such good genes, it would be a shame not to have children. You should marry a woman who is as outstanding and beautiful as you are.”
Callie sincerely advised him, genuinely hoping Tobias could live a good life.
“Got it.” This time, Tobias did not linger and left the room directly, his tone unreadable.
The room became empty and quiet. Callie sighed and sat beside Reuben, massaging his muscles and bones while talking to herself, “Dad, you also hope Tobias can be happy, right? He is a good man and has been a benefactor to us.”
Reuben did not respond; only the sound of the heart monitor reminded them he was still alive.
For Nelson, the end of the year was the busiest time with many social engagements.
Callie often waited until the early hours of the morning for him to come back. Sometimes he didn’t return at all, like tonight. She called Nelson’s secretary. “Madam, Mr. Oconnor is still at a dinner party. The bosses won’t let him go; they might move to another venue.”
As expected, Callie didn’t insist. “I understand. Take good care of him. I’m going to sleep.”
“Uh…” The secretary was taken aback by Callie’s straightforwardness.
“Is there anything else?” Callie was indeed tired.
Being known as Mrs. Oconnor was troublesome; she couldn’t just be herself.
“Madam, tonight’s event is at Club Paradise. The bosses have invited about ten models, all top beauties. Aren’t you worried?” The secretary spoke quickly and incredulously. For a man like Nelson, every woman wanted to hold on to him tightly.
But Callie seemed indifferent.
She paused. “Is Miss Weber there tonight?”
“… Yes.”
“Then it’s fine. If she’s there, I’m not worried.” Callie answered decisively. Cora liked Nelson so much that she wouldn’t let other women get close to him; there was no need for her to go.
The secretary was stunned by her logic. “But… everyone knows Miss Weber…” She bit her lip and said, “Mrs. Oconnor, maybe you should come and save Mr. Oconnor.”
After saying that, she hung up the phone.
Callie stood in the dark, realizing that being a wife meant having to take care of her husband no matter the hour.
She took a deep breath, opened her wardrobe, and put on a cool long dress with a jacket over it. She slipped into her Valentino shoes, maintaining her aura.
In truth, it wasn’t that she didn’t want to manage Nelson; she was just afraid that if she managed too much, she would overstep boundaries and want more and more-starting with wanting his presence and then his heart…
Such a Callie would become anxious and insecure, which she didn’t like.
Club Paradise was as bustling as ever. This time, no waiters stopped her; Bridger had specifically instructed that she should have free access whenever she came.
Nelson was on the top floor. The secretary came to meet her. “Madam, those women are indeed beautiful. Even Miss Weber can’t handle them.”
Callie took off her jacket and handed it to her, revealing her full chest and long legs. Although her face wasn’t stunning, her figure was good enough; otherwise, Nelson wouldn’t be so relentless in bed.
