Of course, when the assistant drove up to take Jaquan to the company shortly after, the girl’s demeanor changed from lively to reserved. “Are you… the big boss?”
Jaquan found her shocked expression amusing. He finished the last bite of his bun and handed her a business card. “If you’re interested, you can apply for a job at my company.”
Having seen too much hypocrisy, he found authenticity rare.
Later, Sabrina did apply for a job, and he indeed hired her, keeping her close by.
After hearing this, Callie was somewhat surprised and mocked, “Mr. Scott, you really have a soft spot for beauties. No wonder Mr. Oconnor said you’re a master in the art of romance.”
“Compared to these people, I prefer your resilience,” Jaquan’s words took a turn, his eyebrows full of charm.
Callie couldn’t bear it and dared not look into his alluring eyes. “Mr. Scott, you’re flattering me. I’m just an ordinary woman; don’t overpraise me.”
Jaquan scrutinized her. “Indeed, ordinary.”
How blunt he was. Callie was choked up.
“But I do like you, Callie. The last few times I asked Nelson for you, it wasn’t just a test.”
These words made Callie very wary. Before she could respond, a loud horn suddenly sounded from behind. Jaquan reacted quickly, shouting, “Watch out!” and pulled her aside.
The snowy road was slippery, and they both fell to the ground, covered in snow. An out-of-control car crashed into the guardrail and got stuck, while smoking.
Callie was terrified and didn’t recover for a long time.
Seeing she was okay, Jaquan breathed a sigh of relief and lay down in the snow. “Good thing I reacted quickly. If you had died because of me, Nelson would have killed me.”
With smoke billowing ahead, Callie closed her eyes tightly. “Thank you for saving my life. I’ll remember this.”
Jaquan smiled and looked up at the sky. “Will you agree to anything I ask?”
He really seemed like a reckless playboy. Callie poked his chest fiercely. “Nothing against principles!”
Jaquan winced in pain. “Then I’ll keep it on hold. I’ll find you when the time comes.”
Callie regretted it deeply. She had only wanted to take a walk and ended up owing a favor.
Firefighters and police arrived quickly. Jaquan pulled her away from the scene immediately. “It’s troublesome to be questioned; I don’t want to waste time.”
The night wind was strong, and there were few people on the road. He held Callie’s hand and ran towards the end of the street, his heart pounding.
Callie was forced to follow him, only able to see his figure, panting heavily. Suddenly, she felt like she had returned to her youth.
After running for an unknown amount of time, Jaquan finally stopped and let go of her hand. “How will you get back?”
“My driver is waiting for me.” Callie lowered her head and walked quickly towards the car but then turned back halfway. “Jaquan.”
He listened attentively.
“You mustn’t use today’s incident for publicity or exploit me.” She was really worried about causing trouble for Nelson.
Jaquan’s smiling eyes dimmed. He said in a deep voice, “Are you so worried about Nelson? Rest assured, I’m not him; I’m not that despicable.”
“You are despicable,” Callie retorted softly, then quickly ran to her waiting driver. He asked, “Was the dinner party so long, ma’am? Mr. Nelson called to ask if you’d arrived home.”
Callie’s heart skipped a beat. “What did you say?”
“As you instructed, I said you had.”
