And it was because of one person.
She turned to look back at the beach house, where Abigor was now emerging from. He had a hand twisted behind his back as his dark hair blew crazily in the wind.
His face broke down in a relaxed smile as he saw her watching him.
The smiles which used to be so rare, now he gave the easily to her. Nothing was separating them anymore, no lies, deceit, or some unfinished revenge.
Her heart had calmed down and she had openly accepted his loving these past few weeks.
He was the happiest he had ever been.
When he reached her, he got down on both knees in front of her sitting figure, still hiding his treasure behind his broad back.
He stared down at her with immense love, blocking the intruding sunlight, and just then he saw that her eyes reflected the same. She ran her hand against his rough cheeks and leaned in to kiss him.
She broke the kiss softly as her heart ran rampant.
“Aria,” he said with so many emotions that she felt her eyes getting heavy for no reason.
Her eyes widened when he pulled out a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers from behind his back and extended it to her.
“It’s not a single flower this time,” he said with a small smile as a single tear drop fell from her eye.
“Abigor. .” she whispered as she took the bouquet and hugged it to her chest.
Suddenly, she could see a younger 20-year-old Abigor and a 10-year-old version of herself in front of her eyes.
He was less muscular then but had a kind smile which had been snatched from him over the years, she however, had her original black hair and brown eyes that she loved at that time.
Over time she had forgotten how to love herself.
The younger Abigor was bent in front of her with a single sunflower he had plucked from the sidewalk while the 10-year-old Aria blushed.
The blood and dead bodies had turned into a beautiful garden of flowers and it was just the two of them in the middle.
She had made that single flower her whole world and unconsciously relied on its beauty. She always wondered why sunflowers gave her such warmth, such peace.
But she knew now, it wasn’t the flower, it was the one who gave it to her.
Aria’s shoulder shook as she clutched the bouquet and tears escaped her eyes. He quietly wiped her tears with his thumb and kissed her again, softly.
“The flowers I gave you at that time died,” he said “And these will also die”
Her heart was stunned at his sentence as cold water washed over her senses.
“No-”
“Shh. .” he put his finger over her lips as he pulled out a small box from his pocket and opened a small box, revealing a beautiful sunflower-shaped pendent.
The small sunflower was made with diamonds and gold as it sparkled in the sunlight.
She looked up at him with wide eyes, as he took out the pendant and clicked it around her neck. The sunflower landed on the valley between her breasts, just right beside her beating heart.
“It will not wilt, it will not die” he murmured to her as both his hands now cupped her face “Just like my love for you”
She closed her eyes, reeling it all in.
Was life always so beautiful? Trees so colorful? Sky so delightful? Wind so bewitching?
And finally, love so. . . powerful?
She thought she knew she wasn’t capable of love, but she found herself falling for him deeper and deeper without even trying.
She knew the moment she laid her eyes on him after so many years. She knew somehow their fate was connected but she was too blinded by revenge to let it prosper.
So she pretended in the beginning to achieve her goals.
But somewhere along the lines of pretending, she fell in love.
She sniffled as realization hit her and she whispered the words before she even realized.
“I love you.”
His face broke into a huge grin as he pulled her closer and kissed her deeper than he had ever.
“Are you pregnant?”
Aria scoffed at Abigor’s remark while he continued watching her make her special sandwich.
“It’s not a craving sandwich” she replied with a roll of her eyes, as she added plenty of fruit jam and bacon with cheese on top. She put ketchup on the other side of the toast to top it off.
“It looks nasty” he commented as he rested his head on her shoulder and wrapped his hand around her thin waist, pulling her closer.
She took a bite of her sandwich as she smiled in satisfaction.
She turned in his hold to face him as he trapped her between the counter and himself.
“You haven’t even tasted it yet” she mumbled as she extended the sandwich to his mouth.
He looked down at the sandwich as if it was the biggest abomination and then up at her hopeful brown eyes. He sighed in defeat as he opened his mouth and took a bite.
The taste almost made him puke but he swallowed it down taking in note of her anticipating face.
“Well?” she asked hopefully.
He downed a glass of cold water to wash down the taste before turning to her again “It’s… . something”
Her face fell as she nibbled on her sandwich in disdain and his heart squeezed in panic. This little girl surely had him wrapped around her fingers.
“Something amazing” he completed hurriedly as she gave him a huge smile.
“Anyway, let’s go. I bought the stuff” he said showing her a paper bag with things she had demanded.
“You go and set things up, I’ll be right there,” she said happily before kissing him deeply, the taste of the disgusting sandwich enveloped him again but he couldn’t do anything because it was her.
He kissed back and squeezed her ass in response with a rough bite on her lower lip “I love you” he mumbled.
She rested her head on his chest with a soft smile on her face “I love you too”
He pecked her lips again before turning back and walking towards their room with the paper bag in his hands.
Aria stared at his retreating back dreamily until he disappeared up the stairs, before turning to look back at her sandwich laying lonely on the plate.
She cringed internally at the taste and threw the sandwich in the trash can. She chuckled at herself while washing the plate as she remembered Abigor’s pained face at the taste.
She couldn’t stop herself from messing with him always. He would always go along with anything she said without as much as giving it a thought.
He may be the unforgiving mafia lord outside the premises of their house, but inside, he was her loyal and handsome lover who would bring stars to her feet if she wanted.
She walked up the stairs while drying her hands on the shirt she stole from him, which reached till her mid-thighs.
She walked towards him and jumped on his back as his hand immediately went back at her.
“Aria” he warned dangerously. He had forbidden her from jumping at him like that because she could seriously injure herself, but she being herself, never listened.
“Yes my love?” she whispered in his ear, knowing it gets him going.
His whole form shivered as he snatched her arm and made her sit on the bed in front of him “Behave”
She all but grinned at him as she looked down at the black dye in the mixing plate along with a page with instructions.
“Are you going to do me now?” Her cheeks heated up at her own statement as his eyes darkened in desire.
His jaw tightened as his hand wrapped around her neck instantly, making her gasp.
“Don’t play with me, little girl” he gritted out “Your pussy is still recovering from this morning’s pounding.”
Her cheeks blasted red as she remembered how she had woken up with him already buried inside her and pounded her for 3 hours straight without mercy.
That didn’t stop her panties from dampening again.
“Do my hair, I meant” she mumbled as she felt his grip tightening in her throat.
“I know what the fuck you meant” he leaned beside her ear as he mumbled “And the next time you try to torture me with one of those crazy sandwiches which you threw in the trash can, I’ll tan your ass.”
Her eyes widened as she whimpered when he bit her ear.
“Abigor” she whined “I was bored”
“If you are bored just come to me and suck my dick” he replied with a smirk as she groaned and pushed him away.
“Sex demon” she mumbled while snatching up the instructions and shoving it against his chest “Do my hair now please.”
He rolled his eyes at her antics “If your hair is fucked up after this, don’t blame me. I told you to go to a salon.”
She watched him with fascination as he mixed the activator “Don’t really want to face other people right now.” She mumbled.
Surely after being in his company for 3 and a half months, just the two of them touring the world, she grew agitated if she had to separate from him.
It would take some time to fall back to the way things were before.
“Clingy baby” he teased as he started coloring her hair after sectioning it.
She had decided to go back to the way she was before her world came crashing down. She had started accepting herself little by little.
First, it was the million collections of contact lenses that Abigor had thrown away, leaving her with just one pair of blue ones she had hidden in her purse.
Most of the time she didn’t wear contacts anymore, except sometimes when she went out. It was still a little hard to look at her eyes in the mirror and not see her bleeding mother.
But at those times, Abigor would stand beside her and tell her what he saw.
A girl with beautiful brown eyes that could shake oceans with just a single glance, a face that could capture hearts with just a small smile. A heart that is golden but was destroyed by the cruel world. I would protect that girl from on so look at your true self and accept it.
His whispered words got to her eventually and she started seeing herself as someone beautiful, someone deserving to be loved, someone deserving of a forgiveness.
She cupped his focused face as he colored her hair and gave him a soft smile. He was the one. The one she would choose over and over no matter what pain she would have to suffer.
