Three days passed, and I was still dazed by the almost-kiss. I tried not to make it too obvious, and my most subtle way was to blush every time Donovan was around. I hated this. I couldn’t help but want to dunk my head in a bucket of cold water whenever I saw him or thought about everything that happened that day. It’s a constant struggle with myself not to think about it, and it’s driving me crazy. What’s wrong with me? I’m a reasonably grown-up person, and I can’t keep my head focused on anything else for days.
In an attempt to do so, I went out with April for a stroll through antique shops near the school. She really liked them, even though at that moment, I wasn’t great company because my mood was rock bottom.
To make matters worse, Travis was more insistent than ever with me. I tried to reject him in a thousand ways. It was no use. Nothing stops him.
“Are you free tomorrow?” No.
“On Saturday?” I have something.
“On Sun…” April and I have to go. See you.
And we ran to her car. But at that moment, I wasn’t the only one dazed; April was in my club too.
“Do you like Travis?” I asked her back then, and she turned a shade of red similar to a beet.
“What?! No! I mean, yes, he’s nice. Handsome, really good-looking, and intelligent. I mean, he got an A on his calculus test the other day, and well, it’s not like I check his grades! It’s just… you know? No, I don’t like him. Get in the car, and I’ll take you home.”
I concluded that she obviously wants to violate Travis.
And now, back to the present, I have to study for math.
I started doing the day’s homework when I heard the sound of the door. Obviously, it was Jessi with her unfriendly face. She hates me-even more-for what happened with Donovan. We’re even; I hate her too.
“Donovan and you, huh?” She slams the door behind her, and for a moment, I wanted to scream at her to be more careful, but I’ll swallow the anger that I already see coming.
These days, I’ve been sleeping at April’s place so I wouldn’t have to face this, but I was just delaying the inevitable.
“Donovan and I, nothing. Besides, if there was something, why do you react like this?”
“Because he’s the worst! He’s just… he’s good for nothing, and…”
“You like him,” I finished her sentence.
It was obvious she was going to say it. The bad boy with the rich girl. What a lovely movie she must have concocted in her head. Although it could happen, I mean, even though Jessi is a damn bitch with more claws than a hundred cats combined, she’s pretty. And Donovan is very handsome. They would be the typical cliche… I’m already creating the movie myself. Maybe I should write a book, a best-seller perhaps?
“Yes, I’m attracted to him. And good for you for rejecting him. I still can’t believe he was interested in you.”
Wow, that hurt em… nothing?
“I can’t believe it either. Things happen, oops! Now, is that all?”
She stares at me as if she doesn’t believe I’m teasing her.
“On Monday, you’ll crawl to school. See you, Celina.”
It made me furious that she threatens me with such stupidity, thinking it would matter to me. Does she expect me to beg? Because she’s still here.
“You’re the one who crawls everywhere, not me,” I spat out angrily.
I couldn’t care less about her father or what anyone could do to me. I’m tired of stooping down to these bastards.
“What did you say?”
“You heard me.”
“Don’t mess with me.”
“You’ll regret it. Stop bothering me, or one day you’ll wake up bald. It’s a promise.”
I approached Jessi, and she took a few steps toward the door, away from me.
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with.”
“Nor do you. At this point in my life, I’m capable of many things. I’m tired of you. Mind your own business, and I’ll mind mine.”
After that, she gave me a rather grim smile and slammed the door as she left my room.
This wasn’t my idea of a peaceful life. This isn’t it…
