“Do you know who he is?”
“He’s your ex boss, Henry. She showed up after she left your mother. I didn’t know you invited him,”
“Me neither,” I glared at him and looked back at Dave.
“I’m going to leave you alone…”
“It’s not necessary, he’s already leaving… ” I start to say, but the idiot interrupts me.
“No, in fact, I need to talk to you, Anna,” he says, standing up.
“I’ll leave you then. Oh and Jeremy was really worried about you, so he slept with you in our bed for a while and then I took him to his,”
Henry, upon hearing my son’s name, clenched his fists and closed his eyes very tightly. He still remembers that that is the name we talked about giving to a baby.
“Then he woke up again and Henry played with him to distract him. They get along great,” Dave winks at me and I want to punch him in the face for allowing Jeremy to be with Henry.
“I love you,” Dave kissed my head and left the house.
Henry and I examined each other a bit. The weak one and I more helpless than ever, anxious for him to leave.
“Now it’s blonde,” he said, pointing to my hair.
I dyed it after Jeremy was born. New life, new hair… Well, it wasn’t like that, but I liked to think that things would change for me quickly.
“Yeah”
“Did you leave university?”
“Yes”
“You work?”
“Yes”
“You’re a mother,” I’m not asking, I was stating it.
“Yes”
“Are you going to say something else?” He says already irritated. I see in his eyes the desire to throw something.
Calm down, idiot. You’re not the only one who wants to throw something. Although the difference is that I want to throw it right at your head.
“What are you doing here? ” I ask the only question that interests me. He laughs bitterly and looks at me seriously.
“I was hoping you would tell me his age, or at least an explanation of something, but since you won’t tell me anything on your own, I’m going to ask: How old is he, Anna? ” Take one step closer and I’ll take three further.
That’s the question I didn’t want to answer.
“He has three,” I lied.
“No, don’t lie to me. It’s bigger than that and it shows,” Two steps close, three steps away.
Shit
“It’s none of your business,” I said and looked at my feet, knowing that this conversation wouldn’t end here.
I hated knowing that I had him close, that he was in my space, that he shared the same air as me. I hated knowing he was here.
He stops approaching and runs his hands through his hair, as it is longer, he drags each hair through his fingers.
“It’s mine?” His eyes show him susceptible. I let my guard down too much and I realize that he is afraid of the answer.
“No. It’s mine. Not yours,” I responded, gritting my teeth.
“Anna, this is the last time I’ll ask you without making a fucking scandal. How old is he?”
Now he’s the one who’s gritting his teeth and he’s pissed. It didn’t change much the way he reacts to having these kinds of emotions, I’m surprised he hasn’t broken something already.
Jeremy is asleep and I don’t need any more problems. He can’t know this… he’s my baby and I promised no one would hurt him. That he would be a happy child, with a mother who loves him and loves him. And I don’t need this jerk to come and try to ruin his life like he did mine.
“Five,” I just said and instantly my eyes went to Jeremy’s door. Hoping he doesn’t come out to see who I’m talking to or to see if I woke up.
“Jeremy, it’s mine right?” I saw Henry again. He was pale and leaning against the wall on the other side of the room.
“You lost any rights to my son when you left. He is my son. I am his mother and his father. You will never be nor are you anything to him,”
I stood firm and threw daggers at him with my eyes.
“I didn’t know…” He starts to say and my self-control goes to shit.
“WELL MAYBE IF YOU HAD NOT GONE YOU WOULD KNOW! YOU LEFT ME WITH THIS ALONE! I WAS AFRAID! I HAD NO ONE! DAMN, NOBODY! ” I screamed hysterically.
I haven’t screamed in a long time… My eyes haven’t felt cloudy in a long time… I haven’t felt like I’m about to tear myself up in a long time… I haven’t felt the need to touch someone so much in a long time…
The tear that runs down Henry’s cheek makes him feel like vomiting.
“Mommy? Why are you screaming? ” Jeremy’s voice sounds behind me. I feel my heart breaking. He had never heard me scream in his life and I promised that he would never scream at him.
I walked quickly towards him and picked him up in my arms. He rests his head in the crook of my neck.
“I’m sorry, my darling. I’m sorry. The man was already leaving” I whispered in his ear and kissed his head.
Jeremy instantly raises his head to look at me and Henry. Shakes his head many times.
“No, Henry plays with me,” he tells me, pouting.
He has trouble saying words with the r’s, so he sounds extremely cute when he mentions Henry.
“Well, Henry has to go now, my love. “He’ll go back to where he came from.” I looked out of the corner of my eye at Henry as if warning him not to say anything.
“I don’t want him to leave,” Jeremy imposes, now more serious.
“It’s not how you want, Jeremy. It’s as it should be,” I reply dryly. It hurt me in several ways that he told me that he wanted him to stay. He’s the fucking man who left us both. She now she goes back to bed.
“I’m not sleepy,” He narrows his eyes in my direction and I remain perplexed looking at him. He never disobeys or answers and he never looked at me that way…
He approaches Henry and asks if he wants to continue playing with his new racing toy. Henry crouches down to Jeremy’s height and the desire to push him as far away as he can from him is too much… but they can’t be that close, dammit!
“Hey buddy. I’m not leaving, in fact you’ll see me quite often from now on, but your mom feels bad and she wants to rest. She goes to sleep and tomorrow we will play as much as you want”
“Oh no, that’s not going to happen,” I sputtered, getting dangerously close to Henry.
Jeremy nods his head many times and bumps fists with Henry. He then hugs my legs and runs to his room.
“You will leave. Right now,” I roared and slammed my hands on his chest. Pushing him back.
Well, even though it was a blow and it was only a second, my hands started to shake from feeling my hands on his body.
“You know I’m not leaving, right? I will fight for this! ” He roars and my skin gets goosebumps.
