Kylie’s P. O. V
In my dream…….
“You are the girl that my son is dating? I wonder what he saw in you?” said Mr. Robinson Smith, Sebastian’s father. I was escorted by two of his bodyguards from my class earlier.
“I don’t know what are you talking about. Where’s Sebastian?” I asked him being intimidated by him.
“How dare a poor girl like you talk about my only son in front of me? Do you know how rich Sebastian is? Huh! Who am I asking, of course, you knew. That’s why you seduced him,” he scoffed. Then he threw a blank check on his face.
“Put your price on the check and leave my son. I don’t want him to be connected with a girl like you,” he yelled making me jump in fright.
“I-I love Sebastian, I didn’t know if he was rich or poor before falling in love with him, I don’t want his money, I only want him,” I stuttered to express my love for Sebastian to his father. But it didn’t meld his stone heart.
“I knew girls like you are thick-skinned. You should have agreed when I asked you nicely. Now you left me no other way to choose a path more vicious,” he said gritting his teeth.
Coming back to reality…….
I opened my eyes wiping the drops of sweat from my face. I haven’t had a dream about him in years. He was a plague in my memory. I couldn’t muster enough courage to tell Sebastian about my short meeting with his father four years ago. Now that I was going to meet him today, I could only rely on my luck to avoid him as much as possible.
“Had a bad dream, baby?” asked Sebastian placing a hand on top of me. His voice was groggy from sleep.
“A nightmare,” I replied and lay down on the bed again. He pulled me closer to him and hugged me tightly. Sleep now, you won’t have any nightmares in my embrace,” he said placing a kiss on my temple. I sighed before closing my eyes.
True to his words, I didn’t have any nightmares for the rest of the night. I woke up with a clear head and my body was relaxed. I went to the washroom to do my morning routine. I splashed water on my face and looked into the mirror.
“You have a long day ahead, Kylie and you can face it,” I said to myself looking in the mirror. When I came out of the washroom Sebastian was leaning against the bathroom door frame.
“Had a good sleep?” he asked with concern. I nodded in response.
“Told you, as long as I am with you nothing can harm you,” he said pulling me into his embrace.
“Thank you,” I whispered closing my eyes.
“Get ready and wear something loose. We are going to your dress trial later,” said pecking on my head.
“Dress trial?” I asked dumbfounded.
“You are going there as the wife of the CEO of Smith Group. Of course, you need a dress that will make you the center of attention. I want my baby to be the one shining the most,” he chimed with his husky voice.
“Okay,” I couldn’t deny after what he expressed to me.
At the office…….
Kylie couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the lines of dresses waiting inside his private room for trial. It was nearly thirty dresses for crying out loud.
“Do I need to try all of them?” she asked hoping the answer would be a ‘NO’. But to her disappointment, Sebastian replied the opposite.
“Yes, you need to try all of them and show me and then I will choose the right one for you,” he said blowing his minty breath on her ears.
“Can you pick 3 or 4 out of them and then I can try them and choose one?” she proposed meekly.
“No, just go and try. Unless you want me to make you try them all. I would love to undress you several times,” he winked at her. Kylie sighed and walked forward to try the first one.
It took her nearly two hours to try all of those dresses until Sebastian chose one for her. It was a midnight blue long gown with an off-shoulder sweetheart neckline. When she thought the most tiring part was completed then came the group of make-up artists to doll her up for the event. When they were done working on me I walked up in front of the big mirror. I almost couldn’t recognize my reflection in the mirror. I was looking like the top models walking on any red carpet in Hollywood events. I must appreciate their work on me.
“Wow, who’s the beauty in that dress?” Sebastian stood behind me and snaked his hands around my waist.
“Mrs. Smith at your service Mr. Smith,” I smiled at him and he groaned. He made me turn around to face him. He was also wearing the same blue tailored suit with a white shirt underneath. His hair was neatly brushed and set. He was looking devilishly handsome.
“If you keep ogling at me like that, I swear we won’t make it to the event today,” he raised a brow. I looked away immediately embarrassed for gawking at him shamelessly.
“I am sorry, let’s go we will be late,” I said looking away from him but the next second with just a single tug I was pressed against his toned body.
“Don’t ever feel ashamed of watching what belongs to you. I will make it up to you after the event,” he whispered the last part in my ear. My face flushed red at his close intimacy.
Our car pulled in front of the big hotel where the event was held. Earlier I was a bit tensed that the makeup artists had overdone my makeup for a charity event. But seeing the line of luxurious cars and the number of press and journalists present at the entrance made me wonder if I was dressed properly for this event! It was no less than a red carpet-event in Hollywood.
“Breath Kylie,” Sebastian whispered in my ear. Only then did I realize I was holding my breath all this time. As soon as our car stopped in front of the entrance, a valet ran forward to open the door for Sebastian. Buttoning his suit he got down from the car. He walked with an intimidating aura around him and came to my side of the car. He opened the door for me and extended his hand for me to hold.
I took in a deep breath before taking his hand and came out of the car. Flashes of several cameras lit in our direction. I was almost blinded by the flashes and couldn’t see where I was going. But Sebastian holds me tight his hand around me from behind. He led me inside protecting me from the prying eyes of the press.
“Are you feeling okay?” he asked with concern laced in his voice.
“I am fine. I was just overwhelmed by the number of press out there,” I told him the truth.
“You don’t need to worry about anything as long as you have me by your side. You will used to this attention of the press. Because after today then won’t let you off,” he smirked. I don’t know if I should feel relaxed that he was with me or feel anxious because the press will be tailing behind me from now on. I guess I will go for the first one, the latter can wait for now.
We entered the big hall hand in hand. I could feel questioning eyes watching us. The hall was packed with guests and by their clothes I knew they were all important bigshot people of the country. Some of them I saw them regularly on TV.
“Mr. Smith, it’s good to see you. I almost thought you wouldn’t attend the event,” one elderly man approached us. He was in his late forties but well-built.
“Good to see you, Mr. Henry,” Sebastian shook his with a plastered smile on his lips.
“And who is this beautiful lady beside you? She looks oddly familiar. I think I met her somewhere before. Maybe one of those social events?” he asked boring his eyes on me. Not badly might I add.
“I bet you mistook her for someone else. She never attended any social events. I will introduce her soon to everyone formally,” Sebastian replied making the man disappointed.
“Oh, I see. Then it must be my mistake. I am sorry Miss…..” he trailed looking apologetically at me. I could tell he was a good man with no bad intentions. So I nodded to him curtly before replying.
“It’s Kylie, and you don’t need to feel sorry,” I smiled at him. His mood lifted instantly.
“Okay I will see you guys later,” he said and turned to leave but then looked back to observe my face intently before mumbling out. “I bet I have seen those eyes and smile somewhere.”
He then disappeared into the crowd. He was the second person after Alan told me that I looked like someone. I took in a sharp breath concentrating on Sebastian. He was intently looking at the stage in the middle of the hall. Following his trail of gaze, I looked at the stage and my breath hitched. There he was, standing behind the podium with his almightly aura, Mr. Robinson Smith.
As if he could feel my eyes on him, he looked up to meet with my eyes. I could swear I saw flashes of rage in his eyes before it replaced with a mocking smirk.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for attending this charity event. Today is an important day for me because I am going to introduce my daughter-in-law to you,” he said with a genuine smile this time. Then his eyes traveled to me. The air struck in my chest, I felt like I forgot to breathe. Was he going to introduce me to the world? Did he know all along that I was Sebastian’s wife?
To confirm my thoughts I turned to look back at Sebastian. But from his expression, it was clear that he was as confused as me. What was his vicious father planning now?
“Now I want to call my Daughter-in-law to come to the stage and greet everyone on behalf of the Smith Group,” I held my breath in anticipation. Was he going to call my name? Was he going to accept me publicly?
“Oh, at first I want to call my beloved son on the stage. Sebastian, please come up my boy,” he said looking at Sebastian. Everyone’s eyes were turned back to Sebastian. I saw his jaw clenched and then he started walking to the stage holding my hand. When we reached the stage, his father came forward took Sebastian’s hand that was holding, and pulled him to the stage.
“Now it’s time to introduce my daughter-in-law,” he looked back at me with a smile. A faint hope surged at the bottom of my heart only to be shattered the next moment.
“Mae Wiggins, the heiress of Wiggins Group,” he announced. A beautiful girl in a red bodycon dress walked up to the stage gracefully and the audience started clapping and yelling congratulations to the couple. But the claps were like blades slicing my heart into pieces.
“Mae and Sebastian will get engaged next month,” he announced again and I saw the sophisticated girl smile shyly and hug Sebastian in front of everyone.
