Diego’s POV
“Where is that bastard?” I growled, turning my eyes to Aiden.
His throat bobbed with difficulty as he clasped his hands behind him while avoiding my eyes. “Redfish was able to escape.”
“I don’t care where that bastard must have run to. Did I hear that one of my packages is with him?” I questioned.
“Y…yes, boss.”
I cackled dryly. “It’s obvious you have a death wish, Aiden. Find redfish and get my package back!”
“We can’t just go after him, he is in Italy as we speak.”
“So?”
Aiden looked like he would shed some tears. “It is far from our territory, boss. He already linked up with Guillermo. And you know what that means.”
I sucked my teeth, feeling irritated. Guillermo is one of my family’s longest enemy and he always seems to enjoy tugging at my patience.
“Alright, send Bruno over. He will handle it just the way I expected you to.”
“Yes, boss.” He mumbled, turning to leave.
“And Aiden… do yourself a favor and keep your stupid face away from my sight.” I gnashed my teeth at him.
I know I can be hard on my men most times for the rare mistakes they make. But that is the only way we can survive in this ruthless world that we are in. Any slight mistake, the mafia enemies will feed on it.
The table phone rang, calling my attention. I answered it with a grunt. I hear my secretary, Donna squeak fearfully on the other end.
“What is it?”
“Sir, Miss Kamara is here to see you.” She informed me.
“Let her in,” I mumbled, dropping the phone.
Letting out a long breath, I leaned into the chair trying not to think too hard on why Kamara might be here. She is a strange person, I won’t be surprised if she comes here to tell me something I clearly do not want to hear.
Because of her, I haven’t slept at home. Nana has made it a point of duty to make my life miserable for the lie Fernando told her.
Kamara walked in with a blank look on her face and sat down. “I am pregnant.” She announced with no hint of enthusiasm.
I mirrored her expression and hummed. “Are you.”
Without a word, she passed me the test result. I looked through it keenly. Can’t exactly tell what emotions are running through me at the moment, but I am definitely pleased as punch that I do not have to avoid Nana anymore.
“I will take my leave.” She mumbled, attempting to stand up.
“Where do you think you are heading to? We are not done yet.” I stated sternly.
There was a flash of anger in her eyes as her nose flared, but she sat back down and folded her arms. “What else do we have to discuss?”
I scoffed, every time I try to be reserved towards her, her resting bitch face just gets on my last nerve. “Your attitude won’t help you. And as said in the contract, I get to decide what becomes of you within the months you are carrying my child.”
“Considering the circumstances surrounding the first pregnancy, I have decided you will move in with me. A live-in nurse will be hired to look after you closely and I also get to know what you get to.”
“Are you trying to take control of my life now?” She queried with a fierce glare.
“If you had acted responsibly the first time and taken your medications as directed, I wouldn’t have to waste extra money hiring a nurse for you.”
I saw her veins pop in her neck and her breathing seemed to get harder with each passing second. “I am not moving in with you.” She gritted with finality in her tone.
I laughed dryly. “You do remember you signed a contract right? I am not going to drag this out with you, Kamara. Since you are trying to act so tough, I would be damned to reason with you. Do whatever pleases you. Just know that if something happens to my child, I will not only throw your bloody family to the streets, I will go ahead and sue you for breach of contract. And trust me, your family will never be able to escape my wrath by the time I am done with you.”
Her eyes became red as she burned a hole through me. I remained unbothered. “Diego!”
That was the first time she would call my name.
“Now listen! If you think because you have money to throw around that I am going to just let you trample upon me then you are mistaken.” She heaved.
“Do I look like someone your empty threats can sway? Kamara Hermes, read my fucking lips, if you don’t take caution with the way you talk to me, I will make you regret ever coming my way. I am the last person you want to mess with.”
The tears she had been fighting so hard to keep back flooded her eyes, but she stubbornly held them back. “Why are you doing this to me?”
“Oh, please. Don’t play that card with me. You do by my rules and we wouldn’t have to worry about anything. My driver will come by the house to pick you up. Better not act funny, that child has to survive and I do not care whatever you have to do to achieve that. I think we are done here, I have a meeting.” I seethed.
She let out a shaky breath and left. My eyes lingered on the door so hard that it stung. I feel stupid for letting my thoughts roam about that night. There is nothing that I want from her except my child.
Cursing under my breath, I pulled out my drawer to get a cigar and relax my raging nerves. Today doesn’t seem to be made for me. The door opened letting in Fernando.
“I just saw Kamara. What did you say to her?” He asked with a raised brow.
“She is pregnant,” I replied like that was the answer he desired .
“Did you threaten her?”
I stared at him for a moment and let out a thick smoke. “Since you are her buddy, why not ask her yourself.”
“Really, man?”
I sniffed and stood up to head out, determined to not entertain his dumb sermons. “I have a business to handle. You should come along if you are willing to work.”
“Have you ever been told that you are a first-class asshole?” He retorted behind me.
“It takes one to recognize another.”
“Go to hell!” Came his strangled response.
